Mary "Pauline" Collier Dorrier, departed this life
Monday, March 14, 2016 at her home in Albemarle County. Pauline was born in
Albemarle County on November 15, 1932.She was the fourth child of the late
William Floyd Collier and Mary Ella Collier. She was preceded in death by her
devoted husband of 64 years, John Robert Dorrier on January 27th of this year.
Also preceding her in death are her sister, Lena C. Jenkins and husband, Tom;
and brothers, William L. Collier and wife, Anne, and William F. Collier, Jr.
Pauline graduated from McIntire High School in 1951, where she played basketball
for four years, and made many life-long friends. Pauline was known as a small
player in height with an amazing hook shot and love of competition. She was
employed and retired from Sperry Marine in 1983, after more than 25 years of
service, where she was the first woman employed in their Systems Analysis
division. Pauline was a member of Hinton Avenue Methodist Church. Pauline was
known for her energy, laughter and devotion to her family and friends. She loved
flowers, working outside and cooking. All who knew and were loved by Pauline
knew they had a strong ally in any storm. Pauline and her husband John were a
team for life, and were totally devoted to each other and their family, friends
and animals. Pauline was a wonderful woman who gave her family and friends
unconditional love and support; she will be greatly missed. Pauline is survived
by one daughter, Debra Dorrier Coyner and her husband, Leonard E. Coyner; one
granddaughter, Katelyn Nicole Coyner; two dear sisters, Lorraine Morris
Williams, and Virginia Collier Dorrier; one sister-in-law, Shirley Dorrier, and
many wonderful nieces and nephews. Her family would like to thank her friends,
family and caregivers for their devoted service and help. The family will
receive friends on Wednesday, March 16, 2016, from 5:30 until 7 p.m. at Hill and
Wood Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday,
March 17, 2016, at Monticello Memory Gardens with Pastor Robert Lewis

Glen Elwood Early, 72, of Crimora passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2015. He
was born September 12, 1942 in Augusta County the son of the late Darrell E.
"Doggie" and B. Virginia Early. In addition to his parents he was preceded in
death by his brothers, Kenneth L. and Gary W. Early and brother-in-law, Raymond
Teter who died on February 21, 2015. He is survived by his loving wife who he
married on May 17, 1961, Muriel Carolyn Morris Early; children, Jennifer L.
Pitsenbarger and her husband, Gary M. of Stuarts Draft, Janice K. Knott and her
husband, Dale B. of Waynesboro and Jeramy Early and his wife, Rebecca J. of
Grottoes; grandchildren, Christopher A. and Melinda Borror of Harrisonburg,
Amber N. Conner and fiancé, Brett Bower of Stuarts Draft, Jason G. and Melanie
Fauber of Verona, R. Shane Conner and wife, Rachel Kunemund of Richmond,
Benjamin W. and Michelle Fauber of Grottoes, Kristen S. Soper of St. Louis, MS,
Zachariah G. and Samuel L. Knott of Waynesboro; ten great grandchildren;

uncles, nieces and nephews. Glen graduated from Wilson Memorial High School in
1959-60. He was honorably discharged after 8 years of service from the Army. He
retired from DuPont after 38 years of service. He was a member of the Waynesboro
Elks Lodge #2270 for 27 years and a member of the Verona Moose Lodge. He was a
past member of the Grottoes Volunteer Fire Department. He loved camping,
bowling, music, NASCAR, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren and
great grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 26,
2015 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm and a Elks Rites memorial service will be at 6:30pm
at Charlton and Groome Funeral Home, 619 Lifecore Drive, Fishersville, VA 22939.
A graveside service will be held 11:00am on Friday, February 27, 2015 at Barren
Ridge Church of the Brethren in the Wright Memorial Gardens Cemetery, conducted

Mrs. Linda Mae Shiflett Earwood, age 76, of Rome, Georgia passed away on Sunday,
June 17, 2018. She was born on March 5, 1942, in Rome, Georgia. She was the
daugher of the late Robert "Bob" Sylvester Shiflett and Lula Mae Mauldin
Shiflett Packer. Mrs. Earwood is survived by; daughters, Rhonda Kim and Randy
Puckett and Terrie Lavonne Houck; sons, David Wayne Earwood and Kane Edward
Earwood; sisters Barbara Shiflett Cook (Larry) and Margie Shiflett Rehme;
brother Edward William Shiflett (Jackie); three grandchildren; one
great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Earwood is preceded in
death by her parents; husband, Lionell Earwood; son, Randy Allen Earwood;
brother Robert Wayne Shiflett. In keeping with Mrs. Earwood's wishes she was

Mr. Lionell Earwood, age 81 of Rome, Georgia passed away on Tuesday,
May 29, 2018. He was born on July 5, 1936 in Powder Springs, Georgia. He was the
son of the late Alva Jackson and Ruby Viola Estelle Westbrook Earwood. Mr.
Earwood is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Linda Mae Shiflett Earwood;
daughters, Rhonda Kim and Randy Puckett and Terrie Lavonne Houck; sons, David
Wayne Earwood and Kane Edward Earwood; sisters, Joyce Waits-Comer and Kathleen
Boddie; brothers, Carey Earwood and TJ Earwood; three grandchildren; one
great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Earwood is preceded in
death by his parents; son, Randy Allen Earwood; sisters, Frances Maddie Earwood,

Anna Mae Eaton Slaton, 82, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, September 30, 2009,
at City Hospital. Born September 21, 1927 in Rockingham County, VA, she was the
daughter of the late Charles Eaton and Rose Ella Morris Eaton. She was a member
of the Mennonites in Virginia. Mrs. Slaton will be remembered for the seasonal
decorations on her home on Raleigh Street. She is survived by two sons, Roy
E. ”Eddie” Slaton, Jr., and David L. Slaton; five daughters, Gladys Peacemaker,
Sharon Slaton, Bonnie Slaton, Virginia Penwell and Shirley M. Crider, all of
Martinsburg; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, Raymond
Eaton; three sisters, Lettie Shifflett, of Elkton, VA, Cora Bradshaw and Clarie
White, both of Martinsburg. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Edward
Slaton and three brothers, Thomas, Russell and Miller Eaton. Funeral services
will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 4, 2009, at Brown Funeral Home with
Rev. Bryan Pumphrey officiating. Interment will be held at Rosedale Cemetery.

Beulah Mae Samuels McDaniel, 86, of Elkton, and formerly of McGaheysville,
passed away on Monday, Aug. 12, 2013, at the home of her daughter after a
courageous battle with cancer. Born on Feb. 23, 1927, in Rockingham County, she
was a daughter of the late Malcolm and Christine Shifflett Eaton. Mrs. McDaniel
was loved by all and will always be remembered for her love of her family, her
visits to friends, her famous fried chicken, and her wonderful sense of humor.
On Feb. 28, 1946, she wed Robert Clifton Samuels and had three children. After a
long illness, during which she faithfully cared for him, he passed away on Feb.
4, 1963. She later married Thomas Edward “Ed” McDaniel on Nov. 11, 1967, with
whom she enjoyed many years until his passing on Nov. 10, 2002. Mrs. McDaniel is
survived by a son, Lester W. Samuels, and a daughter, Frances “Sissy” Meadows
and husband, Darrell, all of Elkton; a sister, Catherine Life and husband,
Buddy, of Elkton; son-in-law, Donald Shipe and wife, Frances, of Harrisonburg;
grandchildren, Darrell Wayne Meadows and wife, Stacy, Susan Samuels, Jeff
Meadows and wife, Stephanie; step-grandchildren, Cathy Uthus and husband, Ronald,
Steven Shipe and wife, Karen, and Michelle Shipe; great-grandchildren, Taylor
and Jared Meadows, and Ethan and Ava Meadows; step-great-grandchildren, Melanie
and Kristen Smith, Megan and Ryan Shipe, Chelsea Samuels and Canton Breeden; and
sisters-in-law, Vada Eaton and Alice Davis, both of Elkton. In addition to her
parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her son, Robert Lee “Tootsie”
Samuels; brother, Elmer Eaton; great-grandson, Travis Samuels Yetzer; and
daughter-in-law, Ellen Shipe. Mrs. McDaniel had attended the Furnace United
Methodist Church near Elkton for the last several years. Pastors Kevin Poeckert,
Rick Robertson and Wayne Wright will conduct a funeral service at 11 Friday
morning, Aug. 16, 2013, at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Elkton. Burial will
follow at Elk Run Cemetery in Elkton. The family will receive friends from 10 to
11 a.m. one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home. Friends may

YORK -- On Friday, July 14, 2006, Donald Milton Eaton passed on to a better
place. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 47 years, Evelyn S.
Eaton; and two children: a daughter Karen, her husband, Dave Hostetter, and
their three children, all of York; and a son, Don Thomas Eaton, his fiance,
Aspen Bruinsma, and their six children, all of York. He also leaves three
sisters and one brother. He was preceded in death by one brother. Donald was
born November 16, 1926, in York, to Thomas E. and Romaine (Smith) Eaton. He
retired from Cole Steel, Litton Industries. He was a WWII veteran who served in
the Pacific Theater on the Battleship Wisconsin. His burial will be with full
military rites by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. There will be no
viewing. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, July 17, 2006, in

ELKTON — Elmer Eaton, 61, of Route 4, Elkton died Tuesday at the Veteran’s
Medical Center in Salem. He was born Aug. 12. 1628, in Rockingham County and was
the son of the late Malcolm and Christine Eaton. Mr. Eaton served in the U.S.
Navy, 82nd Airborne Division, and was a member of Lilly of the Valley Church in
Shenandoah. He is survived by one son, Gary Eaton of Route 4, Elkton; two
sisters, Catherine Life of Elkton and Beulah McDaniel of McGaheysville; and two
grandsons. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Lilly of the
Valley Church by the Revs. L. J. Campbell Jr. and Rudy Smith. Burial will be in
Elk Run Cemetery. Friends may call at the Brill Funeral Home In Elkton or at his

DIES AT PLEASANT VALLEY HOME
PLEASANT VALLEY, October 29 - Eppa Eaton, 50, well known resident of the
Pleasant Valley community, died Wednesday morning at 10:35, at his home
following a month's illness. He is survived by the following brothers and
sisters, Mrs. C. R. McCoy, of Norfolk; Mrs. Nancy Shifflett, of Swift Run;
Charles Eaton, of Beldor; John Eaton, of York, Pa.; and also a number of nieces
and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10 o'clock, at
the grave in the cemetery at Elkton, with the Rev. Floyd L. Fulk, pastor of
Elkton United Brethren Church officiating. Note: Eppa Eaton's age is listed
as 50 in the obituary. Other sources record his birth year as 1874. If that is
correct, his age at death would be 68. He was the son of Thomas Eaton and Mary
Shifflett.

Eaton, 23, of Norfolk and formerly of Elkton, died late yesterday afternoon at
Rockingham Memorial Hospital. He died of injuries received Saturday night when
his automobile went out of control on the Eastside Highway and crashed into the
bridge over Dry Run. He is believed to have dozed off and then could not regain
control of the car in time to avert the accident. Injured also in the crash was
his wife. Mrs. Mildred Eaton, 20, who suffered a probable fracture of the Jaw
and other minor cuts and bruises. She is reported to be resting comfortably and
recovering as well as can be expected. Eaton was the son of William Eaton, of
Elkton, and was born in Elkton. He was married to Mrs. Mildred Sly and they had
one son. One of his brothers was killed last Nov. 18, in the blast at the
Norfolk shipyards. Another brother from Elkton survives. Eaton bad been employed
as a foreman in the shipyards at Norfolk. No funeral arrangements had been made
late last night.

Ford Eaton, 21, died yesterday morning at 9:15 at the Norfolk Marine. Hospital
as a result of third degree burns suffered Saturday from a flareback in a boiler
room of a tanker at the Welding Shipyards Inc. at Norfolk, where he was employed
as a welder.
Young Eaton had made his home in Norfolk for the past three
years and for the past year had been employed as a welder at the Welding
Shipyard, Inc. He was born near Elkton on Aug. 15, 1921 and was a son of Mrs.
Lillie Eaton and the late William Eaton. Besides his mother, he is survived by
two brothers, Everett Eaton, of Norfolk, and Arthur Eaton at home; and three
sisters, Miss Lena Eaton, of Norfolk; Miss Ferris Eaton and Miss Malinda Eaton,
at home. No funeral arrangements had been completed last night, but the body
will arrive in Elkton today and will be taken to the Brill Funeral Home.

Bee Eaton, 84, of Shenandoah died Sunday at Culpeper Health Care Center. She was
born Oct. 6, 1898, in Rockingham County and was a daughter of the late Bud and
Sarah McCoy Offenbacker. Mrs. Eaton, a member of St. Peter's United Methodist
Church, was the widow of William P. Eaton, who died in 1932, Surviving are a
son, Arthur Eaton of Shenandoah; three daughters, Melinda Jane of Elkton, Farris
Pence of Harrisonburg and Lena Pullman of Norfolk; three grandchildren; and
three great-grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at the
Warren G. Kyger Funeral Home in Shenandoah by the Rev. Debra Austin. Buria1 will

D. H. Eavers Dies Hauling Timber
Daniel Harvey Eavers, 70, widely known resident of the Sangerville-Mt. Solon
community, died suddenly while hauling timber near his home yesterday afternoon
at five o'clock. Although Mr. Eavers had been in declining health for several
years, his sudden passing came as a great shock to his family and many friends.
He operated threshing machines and saw mills for years. He was a son of Daniel
and Susan Sanger Eavers and was born in Rockingham county where he spent the
early part of his life. On Dec. 25, 1902, Mr. Eavers was united in marriage with
Miss Dora Shifflett. She survives along with the following children: Mrs. Arthur
(Elsie) Argenbright, of West Augusta; Mrs. Lowie (Pearl) Argenbright, of West
Augusta; Ira W. Eavers, of Mt. Solon: Otis Eavers, of Bristol Pike, Tenn.;
Orville Eavers of Fredericksburg, Md.; and Warren Eavers, of Mt. Solon. Six
brothers and sisters also survive. They are: Mrs. Steve Michael, of Mt. Solon;
Mrs. Newton Michael, of Mt. Solon; Mrs. Minor Kiracofe, of Lima, Ohio; Mrs.
Frank White, of Lone Fountain; Elmer Eavers, of Mint Spring;, and Orville
Eavers, of Jamestown, Ohio. The body now rests at the W. L. Rosenberger funeral
home at Bridgewater, where it will remain until final funeral arrangements are
completed.

BRIDGEWATER, April 16 - Funeral services for Daniel Harvey, 70, well known
threshing machine and saw mill operator of the Sangerville-Mt. Solon community,
will be held Saturday afternoon at two o'clock from the Sangerville Church of
the Brethren. His pastor, the Rev. I. J. Garber, and the Rev. T. M. Foster will
officiate. Burial will be in the adjacent cemetery. Relatives and active
pallbearers will meet at the W. L, Rosenberger Funeral Home at 1:30 for a brief
service. Friends, honorary pallbearers and flower bearers will meet at the
church at 1:45. Active pallbearers will be: David Hess, Richard Bodkin, Junior
F. White, Thomas Michael, Hershel Eavers and Russell Eavers. Honorary

usual health wile stricken hauling timber Wednesday afternoon near Ottobine. His
death came as a shock to the community. He was a man of gentleness and
simplicity whose kindness toward others won for him the friendship of all. He
was a lifelong member of the Church of Brethren, first at Beaver Creek and then
at Sangerville. He Is survived by his wife, the former Miss Dora Shifflett; six
children, four sisters and two brothers. The body now rests at the W. L.
Rosenberger funeral home where it will remain until Saturday afternoon.

MT. SOLON - Ira Whitesel Eavers, 72, of Mt. Solon died Saturday, evening at
Rockingham Memorial Hospital, where he had been admitted earlier that day. He
had not been well for a year. Mr. Eavers was born Sept. 25, 1905 at Spring Creek
and was a son of the late Daniel Harvey and Dora Shifflett Eavers. He was a
retired employee of the Virginia Department of Highways Moscow Headquarters and
a member of Sangerville Church of the Brethren. In August of 1936, he married
the former Stella Rexrode, who lives at Camelot Hall Nursing Home. Also
surviving are three sons, Cecil L. Eavers of Verona and Edward Elijah and Jerry
W. Eavers, both of Mt. Solon; two sisters, Pearl Argenbright of Churchville and
Elsie Argenbright of Staunton; three brothers, Otis F. Eavers of Trenton, N.J.,
Warren H. Eavers of Mt. Solon and James O. Eavers of Rt. 4, Harrisonburg, and
four grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sangerville
Church of the Brethren by the Rev. Dean Fawley. Burial will be in the church
cemetery. The body is at the W. L. Rosenberger Funeral Home in Bridgewater where
the family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 p.m. today.

Warren Harvey Eavers, 85, 1593 North River Road, Mount Solon, died Friday, Jan.
1, 1999, at Camelot Health & Rehabilitation Center in Harrisonburg. Mr. Eavers
was born March 28, 1913, in Augusta County, and was the son of the late Daniel
Harvey and Dora Shiflet Eavers. He was a self-employed timberman and a member of
Emmanuel Church of the Brethren. On May 12, 1934, he married the former Mary
Louise Hodge, who died April 16, 1985. He was the last surviving member of his
immediate family and is survived by two sons, Daniel Eavers, Mount Solon, and

Chas. Eddins Dies Suddenly
B. & O. Engineer Is Victim Of Heart Attack
Charles Eddins, 57, a native of the Pleasant Grove section near Mt. Crawford,
and president of the Brunswick, Md. chapter of the Brotherhood of Locomotive
Engineers, died from a heart attack at 9:30 yesterday morning while visiting the
home of his daughter, Miss Alma Eddins at Washington. Mr. Eddins had been an
engineer on the Baltimore and Ohio railroad for a number of years, and had been
in the railroad's service for a quarter of a century. He had been in ill health
for the past two years but had improved so much recently that he was expecting
to return to work. His unexpected death came as a great shock to his relatives
and friends here. Funeral services will be held from Brunswick Methodist church
Wednesday morning at ten o'clock. Burial; service will be held in the S???????
Church near Mt. Crawford at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon. He was the son of the late
John and Ella Eddins and grew to young ???????? in the Mt. Crawford community
from where he wer? ?? Brunswick. His wife was Miss Emma Shifflett of Mt.
Crawford. She survives with five children, Mrs. Carrie Ambrose, Charleston, W.
Va., Mrs. Bessie Haup, of Pennsylvania; Misses Edna and Alma Eddins of
Washington, and Samuel Eddins of Brunswick. He also leaves eight brothers and
sisters; Charles Eddins, Mt. Sidney; Karl Eddins, Brunswick; Carson and Mervin

Mr. Samuel Howard Eddins, 67, of Brunswick, died Tuesday June 28 at Frederick
Memorial Hospital. He was a son of the late Charles H. and Emma Shiflett Eddins.
He was a member of the Eagles and Moose of Brunswick and Bethany Lutheran Church
in Brunswick. He is survived by his wife, Mary Null Eddins; one brother, Duard
Eddins, of Oxen Hill; two sisters, Mrs. Edna Novotni, of Media, Pa.; Mrs. Alma
Beeson, of Springfield, Va. Friends may call at the Feete Funeral Home from 2 to

PORT REPUBLIC - J. Floyd Edwards, 70, of Port Republic
died Saturday night at Rockingham Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient
since Thursday. He was born Jan. 18, 1901 in Botetourt County and was a son of
the late James R and Elizabeth Shipplett Edwards. He was a retired security
guard at the Merck Plant at Elkton and a retired school bus driver. He was a
member of the Port Republic United Methodist church. On April 29, 1921 he
married the former Nellie Lee Morris who survives. Also surviving are three
sons, N. Wesley and M. F. Edwards, both of Port Republic and A. G. Edwards of
Grottoes; two daughters, Mrs. Carlton Wonderly of Rt. 2, Elkton and Mrs. F.T.
Hinkle Jr. of Port Republic; two brothers, Vivian Edwards of Lexington and
Elbert Edward of Halifax; three sisters, Mrs. Gladys Mace of Buena Vista and
Mrs. Lucille Stevens and Mrs. Ellen Dunn, both of Vernon Hill; nine
grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted 11
a.m. Tuesday at the Port Republic United Methodist Church by the Rev. William A
Winfree and Rev. Harold E. Skelton and the Rev. Richard J. Sander. Burial will
be in the Port Republic Cemetery. The family will meet at the church 10:45 am.

Jens B. Edwards, 75, of 102 Maple Leaf
Lane, Elkton, died Saturday, January 7, at Liberty House Nursing Home, in
Waynesboro. Mr. Edwards had retired in 1973, as a civil engineer with the Navy
in Norfolk. He had lived at Portsmouth, until moving to the Shenandoah Valley
three years ago. He was born January 3, 1914, in Matthews County, and was a son
of the late Erick and Lucy Bailey Edwards. Mr. Edwards was a member of the
Elkton Evangelical United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Ruby S.
Edwards; two daughters, Barbara E. Ames and Gloria E. Crooks, both of Richmond;
a son, J. B. Edwards, Jr. of Kitty Hawk, N.C.; a brother, Bailey E. Edwards, of
Portsmouth; and four grandchildren. A private funeral was conducted Monday,
January 9, in the East Lawn Memorial Gardens Masoleum, by the Rev. Rudy Smith.

Southern Shores, NC - Jens Beauford Edwards, Jr., 70, of Southern Shores, died
unexpectedly on December 12, 2017. He is survived by his wife, Martha; sisters,
Barbara Edwards Ames, and Gloria Edwards Crooks Wetmore; nephews David Ames,
Jr., Erick Ames, and L. Daniel Crooks; and niece, Catherine Crooks Hill. J.B.
was born in Portsmouth, VA to Irene Shiflett Edwards and Jens Beauford Edwards.
At Woodrow Wilson High School, he was an all-state football player and
co-captain of his team. He was the first recipient of the Ernie Houghton
Memorial Award given to the outstanding defensive player. He earned a
scholarship to Duke University where he was a 3-year letterman and was elected
captain of the team his senior year. After graduation, J.B. pursued several
occupational ventures and ultimately became a custom home builder on the Outer
Banks of North Carolina. J.B. loved a good story and was quite the story teller
himself, a trait he inherited from his Norwegian grandfather. One of his
passions was fishing on his boat with friends and being out on the ocean. He was
also an avid fisherman with his team The Crooked Hooks. He was a true leader in
every endeavor he undertook and did so with a quick wit and always a joke to
tell. He will be missed and loved by all but, will be remembered as a true and
respected "Captain." A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday,
January 12, 2018, at Twiford Funeral Home in Manteo, NC. A reception will follow
at The Sandtrap Tavern at Sea Scape Golf Links in Kitty Hawk, NC. In lieu of

PORT REPUBLIC - Nellie. M. Edwards, 77, of Rt. 1, Port Republic died Saturday
evening at her home. Mrs. Edwards had been ill 15 years and confined to her home
four years. She was born June 28, 1906, at Lynnwood and was a daughter of the

Methodist Church. On Apri1 29, 1921, she married J. Floyd Edwards, who died Dec.

Warren B. Edwards Funeral services for Warren B. Edwards, a former tender

died Sunday at the Harbor View Nursing Home after a long illness. Mr. Edwards
was born in Virginia and worked in several produce markets there before he came

graduation, he taught and coached high school for three years in Riceville. Bill
started the State Farm Insurance Agency in Charles City in 1952 as agent. Later
he was promoted to agency manager and agency director for 41 years. This agency
is continued by Tom Rouse, nephew. Bill was an ardent hunter, fisherman, golfer
and tennis player. When Bill was nine-years-old he was adopted by Tom and Minnie
Elliott of Colwell, his relatives. He had two foster brothers, Lawrence "Bud"
Elliott and Henry Elliott of Colwell, and foster sister Maxine Rouse, Charles
City, all of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his
ex-wife, Doris Shiflet Elliott. Bill is survived by wife Patsy Elliott of
Satellite Beach, Fla.; son Dr. Craig Elliott and Peggy, of North Muskegon,
Mich., daughter Denise Elliott and William Whitney of Durango, Colo.,

Mrs. Elva Mitts Eutsler, 63, of Rt. 1, Grottoes died Monday morning after an

Sue Evans, 41, a resident of Waynesboro, died unexpectedly Friday, July 28,
2006. A daughter of Mary Beverage Evans and the late Charlie Mason Evans, she
was born on January 20, 1965, in Waynesboro. Miss Evans was a cashier and
attended the Grubert Avenue Church of God in Staunton. Besides her mother of
Waynesboro, she is survived by three daughters, Rachel Cline and Rhonda Kennedy,
both of Staunton, and Mary Kellison of New Hope; and four grandchildren. She
also leaves three sisters, Cindy Collier of Stuarts Draft, Carolyn Fisher and
Charlotte Claytor, both of Waynesboro; and three brothers, Billy Evans of

Mary Carol (Beverage) Evans, 80, a resident of Waynesboro, Va., passed away on
Monday, January 11, 2021, at Shenandoah Nursing Home. A daughter of the late Lee
and Mabel (Shifflett) Beverage, she was born April 1, 1940 in Pocahontas County,
W.Va. She was retired from Hugh Cassell Elementary School, where she worked for
15 years. In her pastime, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, and
gardening. Mrs. Evans was a faithful member of the Grubert Avenue Church of God
in Staunton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her
husband, Charlie Evans; daughter, Barbara Evans; brothers, Howard Beverage,
Donald Beverage, Kyle Beverage, Ernie Beverage, Jim Beverage, Boud Beverage; and

was born May 11, 1939, in Rockingham County, and was a son of Nova Evans Corum
and the late Grover Evans. He graduated from Harrisonburg High School and served
in the Air Force. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church. On Oct. 12, 1963,
he married the former Beverly Shifflett, who survives. Surviving, in addition to
his mother and wife, are one son, Richard Lee Evans, Harrisonburg; two
daughters, Karen Westfall and Tammy Torkelson, both of Harrisonburg; one
brother, Ronald Lee Evans, Greenville, S.C.; and five grandchildren. Pastor

Paul Huffman Fadeley Jr., 60, of 257 Shenvalee Dr., New Market died April 30,
1993, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, where he had been a
patient since April 28. Mr. Fadeley was born May 18, 1932, in Shenandoah County
and was a son of Gladys Shifflett Fadeley of New Market and the late Paul
Huffman Fadeley Sr. He was vice president and treasurer of the Moss Construction
Co. of Harrisonburg, where he had been associated for 20 years. He also served
as treasurer of New Market Feed and Hardware. He was a charter member and served
as the first president of the New Market Lions Club. Mr. Fadeley was a member of
the Reformation Lutheran Church of New Market and was currently serving as a
church trustee and chairman of the church finance committee. He had served on
the church council. He also served with the U.S. Army. On July 14 1955, he
married the former June Bemis, who survives. In addition to his mother and wife,
he is survived by a daughter, Pamela June Morris of Nashville, Tenn.; two sons,
P. Gregory Fadeley of Marietta, Ga., and Keith A. Fadeley of Lilburn, Ga.; two
sisters, Norma Lam of New Market and Jeanette Wetzel of Harrisonburg; one
brother, Troy Fadeley of New Market; and four grandchildren. The Rev. George L.
Sims will conduct the funeral at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Reformation Lutheran
church. Burial will follow in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery in New

QUICKSBURG — Paul Huffman Fadeley Sr., 84, of Quicksburg died Monday at
Rockingham Memorial Hospital. Mr. Fadeley was born May 6, 1904 at Columbia
Furnace and was a son of the late Robert Lee and Isabel) Woodrow Fadeley. He was
a retired feed mill opera- tot and a member of Quicksburg United Methodist
Church, where he had been Sunday school superintendent, church treasurer and
board of trustees member. On July 21, 1927, he married the former Gladys
Shifflett, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Troy E. and Paul H.
Fadeley Jr., both of New Market; two daughters, Jeanette Whetzel of Harrisonburg
and Norma Lam of New Market; a brother, Gilbert Fadeley of Struthers, Ohio; six
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted
2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Quicksburg United Methodist Church by the Rev. Steve

was a member of the Sweet Springs Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Ruby;
two daughters, Mrs. Daisy Eulen of New Cambria and Mrs. Evelyn Shull of Moberly;
five sons, Charles, Henry, and James of Moberly, Luther of Clifton Hill, and

Florence (Young) Solomon. She was the widow of Henry Fainter. She was a member
of the Church of the Nazarene here and had lived most of her life in the
Huntsville and Moberly area. Surviving are sons Henry, Charles and James, all of
Moberly, Luther of Clifton Hill, and Jerry of Rothville; two daughters, Mrs.
Daisy Shoemaker of Brookfield and Mrs. Evelyn Shull of Quincy, Illinois;

residence. He was born Feb. 5, 1933, at Augusta County, a son of Herbert L. and
Willie (Garrison) Farley. He was an Army veteran, and, prior to retirement, he
was a painting contractor. He also was a member of Parkway Wesleyan Church.
Surviving are his wife; three stepsons. Roy E. Shifflett, Jr. and Rodger L.
Shifflett, Sr., both of Staunton, and James E. Shifflett of Churchville; two

Jeffrey Dillard "Jeff" Farmer, 47, of Waynesboro, died on Wednesday, April 13,
2010. He was born on January 15, 1963, in Richmond, the son of Elvin Dillard and
Christine Ann Shifflett Farmer. Jeff was an avid Miami Dolphin fan. He was an
animal lover, liked fishing, and enjoyed spending time with his family. In
addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his guardian parents,
Albert and Josie Shifflett. Surviving are his sisters, Mary Humphrey, Carol
Farmer, Robin Edwards, Cynthia Gorman, and Gail Eatmon; members of the family
with which he was raised, Debbie Carter, Denise Nielson, and Patrick Shifflett;

west of Anson. Elder D. A. Ramsey, Primitive Baptist minister from Merkel, will

of Anson is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Farmer was born in Waddy Ky., Feb.
11, 1865 and came to Texas in 1884. He moved to the Newman community south of
Sylvester in 1886. He was married to Hulda Lee Shiflett Jan 8, 1891 at Palava.
Surviving him are four children, Thomas Virgil Farmer of Abilene, Mrs. Herman
Beundtner of Conway, Ark., C. C. Farmer of Sylvester and Mrs. Cook; seven
grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and two sisters who live at Waddy.

admitted after suffering a heart attack. Mrs. Fifer was born April 11, 1910,
at Burketown and was a daughter of the late Clinton S. and Annie Glick
Shifflett. She was a member of Summit Church of the Brethren. On March 30,
1940, she married Ward H. Fifer, who survives. Also surviving are a
daughter, Shirley Anne Fifer of Cincinnati; four brothers, W. Newton
Shifflett of Staunton, C. Glick Shifflett of Goleta, Calif., and Joe S. and
Sam P. Shifflett, both of Weyers Cave; and a sister, Lois S. Terry of

Currence for the past 20 years, passed away Sunday morning, Oct. 29, 2006. Born
Feb. 10, 1926, at Adolph, he was the son of the late Clarence and Mary Shifflett
Fincham. He was formerly married to Dortha Hammonds, who preceded him in death
in 2003. Coleman is survived by two daughters, Becky Currence and husband,
Kevin, of Cassity and Mellie Currence and husband, Richard, of French Creek;
four sisters, Pauline Daniels of Elkins, Maxine Tenney of Gettysburg, Pa.,
Dorthy Campbell and husband, Dillard, of Prince Frederick, Md., and Jean Smith
and husband, Loman, of New Brunswick, Ohio; and three brothers, Kelvin Fincham
and wife, Evelyn, of Akron, Ohio, Lee Fincham and wife, Patricia, of Mill Creek
and Clyde Fincham and wife, Eleanor, of Mogadore, Ohio. Also surviving are eight
grandchildren, Mellissa, Michelle, Michael, Marsha, Karah, Khris, Keith and
Keian; two great-grandchildren, Madison and Reese; and several nieces, nephews
and friends. Preceding him in death was an infant daughter, Norma Jean Fincham;
an infant sister, Patty Jo Fincham; an infant brother, Jimmy Fincham; and a
grandson, Kevin Currence II. Coleman was a timber cutter for Bunner Lumber Co.
and retired in 1988 from Marson Coal Co. He was a Protestant by faith. A avid
fisherman and hunter, Coleman loved spending time with his family, especially
his grandchildren whom he spoiled with lots of love. Coleman will be missed but
will remain in the hearts of those who loved him forever. Friends were received
at F.E. Runner Funeral Home Chapel Wednesday. Funeral services will be conducted
from the Runner Chapel today at 1:00 p.m. The Rev. Ralph Summerfield of Adolph

elder for 20 years and was retired from the former Crompton Shenandoah Co. of
Waynesboro with forty years of service. In addition to his parents, he was also
preceded in death by brothers, Cleveland Fisher, Thomas A. Fisher, Alfred
Franklin Fisher, sisters Carrie E. Fisher, Ethel Fisher, Delma Rachel Fisher,
Emma Beatrice Fisher and Nadine Christine Jackson. Survivors include his wife of
56 faithful years of marriage,Virginia Fisher, four sons Rufus Douglas Fisher
and his wife Peggy, Freddie Cleveland Fisher and his wife Pat, Clyde William
Fisher and Bobbie nelson Fisher all of Waynesboro, a brother Lester D. Fisher of
Hampton, a sister Bessie Thelma Farrar of Waynesboro, grandchildren, Delisa,

sixteen Great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandsons. A service will be

years and attended the Glen Kirk Presbyterian Church. He was born May 1, 1980 in
Charlottesville, a son of Mattie (Evans) Fisher Huffman of Charlottesville and
the late Clinton Robert Fisher. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his
step-father, William Huffman of Charlottesville; his widow, Mrs.Eleanor (Carrie)

proceeded her in death some years ago. She made her home in Waynesboro most of

at his home surrounded by his family. Wayne was the third of five children born
to Woodrow D. Fisher and Helen V. Fisher. He was preceded in death by his

Virginia "Ginny" Frazier Fitzhugh, 81 of Orange, passed away on Thursday,
January 7, 2021, at Martha Jefferson House. She was born on August 13, 1939, in
Charlottesville, Virginia, daughter of the late James Raymond Frazier and Emma
McDaniel Frazier. Virginia is survived by her loving (bossy) daughter, Jennifer
Fitzhugh Faulconer and her husband, John Y. Faulconer; granddaughter, Virginia
"Jenna" Conway Faulconer; grandson, Judson Ray Faulconer, all of Orange;
sisters, Thelma Garrison of Stony Point, and Glory Nash of Stanardsville;
sister-in-law, Judy Fitzhugh Estes and her husband, Joe, of Stanardsville;
daughter-in-law, Laurie Fitzhugh Travers of Zion Crossroads; and many nieces,
nephews, other loving family members, and friends. In addition to her parents,
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Rocky Fitzhugh; her
son (the apple of her eye) Rodney Conway Fitzhugh; and her sister, Irene Hicks
of Fluvanna. Known as Ginny in her younger days, Virginia was a 1960 graduate of
Albemarle High School and Martha Jefferson Hospital School of Practical Nursing.
Virginia was happiest living in the home she and Rocky built in Spotswood Trail
where they hosted many parties, cook-outs, and Saturday night card games.
Virginia volunteered in many community organizations over the years including
the Stanardsville Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, William Monroe
PTO, William Monroe Athletic Boosters, Greene County Architectural Survey Group,
Blue Ridge B&B and Lodging Association, Greene Hills Country Club Ladies Golf
Association, GHCC Gators Swim Team and was instrumental in overseeing kitchen
renovations at Grace Episcopal Church. She was also a driving force in getting
the Stanardsville Historic District entered in the National Register of Historic
Places by the US Dept. of Interior, National Park Service in 2004. During her 31
years as General Registrar of Voters for Greene County, Virginia transitioned
the county to computer technology and peacefully managed all elections. She
demonstrated her entrepreneurial spirit by opening SunDaze tanning salon to
finance her daughter's college tuition and operating The Fitzhugh Cottage guest
house for many years. Virginia was a take-charge person, who always got the job
done. After retiring she worked part-time at the Greene County Clerk's Office
and kept Rocky out of trouble. Affectionately known by many as Nanny, she
especially loved visits with Jenna and Judson and celebrating their numerous

Wm. E. Flick Dies at Home
William Edward Flick, 53, a native of the Cross Keys community, a resident of
Harrisonburg for the past twenty-five years, and a well known painting
contractor, died at three o'clock Sunday morning at his home on Reservoir
Street. Mr. Flick, who had not been well for some time, did not become seriously
ill until a short time before his death. His brother, Robert F. Flick, died a
week ago. A son of the late Andrew Flick and Emma Virginia Miltenberger Flick,
he was born on March 19, in the Cross keys section of Rockingham County, but had
made his home in Harrisonburg for the past thirty-five years. On August 5, 1932,
he married the former, Mrs. Ella Florence Shifflett May, who survives him.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two stepchildren, George May, serving with
the U.S. Army, in Germany, and Noah May, of Rocky Bar, Two sisters, Mrs. Alma
Berry and Mrs. Dora Flick, both of Harrisonburg; and two brothers, Charles H.
Flick, of Falls Church, and Jerney Cleveland Flick, of the Friedens Church
community, also survive as well as a number of nieces and nephews. A sister,
Mrs. Cora Dean, and another brother, John H. Flick, also preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock, from the
Ridgeway Mennonite Church. The Rev. Daniel M. Smucker, Jr. will conduct the
services, assisted by Bishop D. W. Lehman. Burial will be beside his brother in
Woodbine cemetery. Active pallbearers will be John Sites, Elmer Lambert, Kenneth
Landis, C. R. Wean, Wallace Sites, and Edward Pence. The body now rests at the
Lindsey Funeral Home on South Main Street, where it will remain until 12:30
Tuesday afternoon when it will be taken to the Church to lie in state from one
o'clock until the hour of the services. Relatives, friends, and pallbearers are
asked to meet at the Church, Tuesday afternoon at one forty-five.

conducted by Sammy Campbell. Ms. Flint was born February 13, 1950 in Virginia,

DGEWOOD, PA - Marilyn J. Shaddow Flowers died Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at the age
of 78. She was born and raised in Trenton, daughter of the late Roscoe Raymond
Shaddow Jr. and Mary Hope Keller Shaddow, and was a graduate of Trenton Central
High School class of 1948. Mrs. Flowers earned a bachelor's degree from Trenton
State Teacher's College (now College of New Jersey) and taught school for 37
years, most of that time at Monument School, Trenton. She married James Palmer
Flowers in 1954 and they built their home on the Palmer-Flowers ancestral land,
Penn Acres Farm, in the village of Edgewood, Lower Makefield Township, and
remained there all their lives. Preceded in death by her beloved husband, James,
in 1997, Mrs. Flowers is survived by her daughters, Kathryn Ann Flowers and
Judith Ann Flowers, both of Lower Makefield Township; her grandson, Nigel Kevin
Johnson Jr. of Lower Makefield, and his father, Nigel Kevin Johnson Sr.; two
brothers and sisters-in-law, R. Raymond III and Patricia Shaddow of Hamilton
Township, and Blaine L. Sr. and Constance Shaddow of Cape Coral, FL; two nieces

Emma J. Suther, 85 of Frankfort, died Sept. 27, 2012 at Frankfort Community Care
Home. Emma was born on April 25, 1927 in Frankfort, KS, the daughter of Elmer
and Blanche (Slade) Ford. Mrs. Suther was a member of Annunciation Catholic
Church, Ladies Altar Society and American Legion Auxiliary, all in Frankfort. On
April 27, 1949 she married Henry Suther at Annunciation Catholic Church in
Frankfort. To this union were born six children. They located on a farm west of
Frankfort. Emma was well known for her love of making wedding and birthday
cakes. The couple celebrated 63 years of marriage on April 27, 2012. She was
preceded in death by her parents; one son, Jerry, in infancy; two sisters, Betty
Zdenek and Shirley Schreiner; and one brother, Lyle Ford. Survivors include her
husband, Henry, Frankfort; one son, John (Karen) Suther, Topeka; four daughters,
JoAnn (Larry) Ronnebaum, Axtell, Janet Johnson, Frankfort, Judy (Greg) Fangman,

Lyle E. Ford, Topeka, Kansas passed away Thursday, November 30, 1989 at his home
at the age of fifty-four years. He was a diabetic. Lyle was born March 25, 1935
in Blaine Kansas, the son of Elmer and Blanche (Slade) Ford. He attended the
Cleburne elementary and high schools. He also attended Kansas State Agricultural
College in Manhattan, Kansas. Mr. Ford started working in 1959 for the State of
Kansas Payroll Division in Topeka, Kansas. He was made supervisor in 1961 for
Division of Accounts and Reports when he passed away. Lyle is survived by four
sisters, Mrs. Betty Zdenek, Elk River, Minnesota; Mrs. Marvin Hancock, Ocean
Shore, Washington; Mrs. Emma Suther and Mrs. Shirley Schreiner, both of
Frankfort Kansas. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, December 4,
1989 in the United Methodist Church with the Reverend John Burgreen officiating.
Mrs. LaVonne Farrell, organist accompanied Mrs. Lorene Shearer as she sang "Rock
of Ages" and "Take My Hand Precious Lord" Serving as pallbearers were Richard

Hospital where she was admitted late Thursday evening following an apparent
heart attack suffered at her home. Born Nov. 13, 1893, in Muskingum County, she
was a daughter of Charles and Ollie Shiplett Williams. She was a member of the
United Methodist Church. Surviving are two Sons Benton of Toledo and Robert
(Coke) Ford of Roseville; two sisters, Mrs. Edith Powell White Cottage and Mrs.
Rose Hammond of 720 Luck avenue; four grandchildren and seven
great-grandchildren. Her husband, Chester, and a son, Charles, preceded her in

moving to Timberville 24 years ago. He was a member of Mill Creek Church of the
Brethren. On Sept. 8, 1917, he married the former Effie Lee Shifflett, who
survives. Also surviving are a son, Clarence E. Ford of Harrisonburg: a foster
son, Randv C. Arehart, serving in the Navy at Virginia Beach; a foster daughter,
Mrs. Floyd Miller of Timberville; four grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Charles
Oliver of McGaheysville; Mrs. Ruth Huffman of Keezletown, Mrs. Blanch Sampson of

Clarence Edward "Ed" Ford, 94, lifelong
resident of Rockingham County, passed away Saturday morning, Feb. 23, 2013, at
Rockingham Memorial Hospital. Mr. Ford was born in Rockingham County on Aug.
4,1918, and was a son of the late Clarence Buford "CB" and Effie Lee Shifflett
Ford. On June 1,1940, he married the former Kathleen Elizabeth Shifflett, who
preceded him in death in 1995. In addition to his parents and wife, he was
preceded in death by his brother, Randy C. Arehart; two sisters. Mildred F. Ford
and Betty F, Miller; and his son-inlaw, Jacob "JC" Huffman. Ed attended Timber
Ridge School and was a farm hand on various properties around Mill Creek, Port
Republic and Grottoes, throughout his childhood. He assisted his father-in-law
as a stonemason and was proud to have constructed the Reservoir Street section
of the stonewall at Woodbine Cemetery in Harrisonburg Mr. Ford enlisted in the
United States Navy and was a World War II veteran. He later was employed as a
custodian for over 25 years at the Harrisonburg Evangelical United Brethren
Church/Otterbein United Methodist Church and retired after 17 years from
Dominion Bank. Throughout his life, he was an expert marksman and loved
trapping. fishing and hunting. Ed enjoyed baseball and was known for his
left-handed pitching in the County League. Surviving family include his
daughter, Marylee Ford Huffman of Harrisonburg: two sons, Jerry Ray Ford and
special friend. Betty, of Springfield, and James Edward Ford and wife, Elaine,
of Grottoes: three grandchildren. Jerry R. Ford Jr. and wife, Elizabeth, Melissa
Huffman Malabad and husband. Paul, and Lisa Shifflett Nobles and husband, David:
three great-grandsons. Anthony, Daniel and Samuel Malabad and nieces and

Nellie Walton Ford, 88, of Boonesville died Wednesday, July 16, 2003 at the
University of Virginia Hospital. Born January 15, 1915, she was the daughter of
the late James Thomas Walton and Lucy Rubush Walton. She was also preceded in
death by her husband, Joseph Walton Ford; five sisters, Ruby Walton Knight,
Sophie Walton Young, Edith Walton Davis, Helen Walton Hall, and Kathleen Walton
Lamb; three brothers, Minor Melvin Walton, Nelson Irvin Walton, and Raymond
Louis Walton; and two granddaughters, Sheri Ann Ford and Nora Ford Wilkinson.
Mrs. Ford leaves her devoted children, Wayne Keith Ford and his wife Mary Ellen,
Kathleen Ford Davis and her husband Dennis, and Karen Lee Ford; four
grandchildren, Deanna Davis VanDerveer and her husband Robert, Joseph Ray Ford
and his wife Virginia, John Patrick Powell, and Samuel Benjamin Powell; and
eight great grandchildren, Elizabeth Ashley VanDerveer, Sarah Kathleen Walton
VanDerveer, Joseph Tanner Ford, Keith Aaron Ford, Kenneth Mark Wilkinson, II,
Whitney Nicole Wilkinson, and Elizabeth Mae Wilkinson. She will also be mourned
by her beloved sisters, Pauline Walton Corbin and Alease Walton Bruce; her
sister-in-law, Vertie Ford Powers; her many very dear nieces, nephews, cousins,
and friends. By all, she will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her endless
capacity for love, her wonderful sense of humor, and her abiding faith in God.
Mrs. Ford graduated from Blue Ridge School in 1932. She attended Nyack College
in Nyack, New York and the University of Virginia. She graduated from Episcopal
College in Philadelphia, Pa. While in Philadelphia, she began her career in
service to others as a social worker in the inner city. A lifelong member of the
Episcopal Church, she devoted much of her life to teaching and caring for the
people she loved in the rural areas of Greene and Madison Counties. In the early
1940's she and her husband Joe, with the assistance of their dear friend Bishop
W. Roy Mason, established St. David's Episcopal Mission on Wyatt's Mountain in
Greene County, where she served as teacher, social worker, and close friend to
all. Also dear to her heart were the years she spent at the University of
Virginia Hospital, where she was a medical social worker from 1962 until her
retirement in 1978. From 1969 until her retirement, Mrs. Ford was also Clinical
Instructor in Medicine and Clinical Instructor in Family and Community Medicine
in the University of Virginia School of Medicine. The family wishes to thank the
doctors, nurses, and staff at the University of Virginia Hospital, the UVA
Primary Care Center, and home health care nurse, Jackie Gentry, for the capable
and loving care extended to Mrs. Ford during her illness. Funeral services will
be held at Prize Hill Cemetery Chapel at 2 p.m. today, with the Rev. Peter T.

Funeral services for James Foster, 70, of Mabscott, will be held at 1 p.m. today
at the Calfee Funeral home Chapel. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
Foster died at his home at 9 p.m. Thursday after a long illness. Born April 8,
1895 in North Carolina, he was a son of the late Charlie and Nancy Shepherd
Foster. A retired miner, he had been a resident of Raleigh County for the past
42 years. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Minnie Shiflet Foster; three
daughters, Mrs. Marie Miller of Sprague, Mrs. Sadie Lane of Wickham and Mrs.
Goldie Gunnoe of Charleston; two sons, Lewis Foster of Mabscott and Russel
Foster of Charleston; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The body
will remain at the Calfee Funeral Home until the service.
FOUST
MICHAEL THORNTON FOUST
Michael the son of Grace Foust of Oildale CA and Noan M. Foust of Birmingham AL
enlisted in the US Marine Corps on December 10, 1965 in Los Angeles CA. He
arrived in Vietnam and was assigned to Company A, 1st Battalion, 7th Marines,
1st MARDIV (Rein) FMF. In the early morning hours of December 8, a well-planned
and coordinated attack by the Viet Cong occurred against the CAC Lima-4
defensive position near Son Tra village, in Binh Son District. Silently several
of the enemy cut the protective wire and slipped inside, meanwhile, one of the
Vietnamese inside the compound who had been a VC agent opened up a gate for
another entry to the attackers. Once inside the sappers began to throw hand
grenades and satchel charges. The defenders battled back, their aggression and
determination broke the will of the VC sending them into retreat. Two Marines, a
USN Corpsman and five PF's were killed in the action; three Marines and one PF
were wounded and evacuated. PFC Foust was one of the casualties; he died as a
result of enemy gunshot wounds.

Steven Lynn Fowler, 45, of Abilene passed away Monday, March 07, 2005. Services
will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at North's Memorial Chapel with Mindy McClanahan
officiating. Visitation will be 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at North's Funeral
Home, 242 Orange Street. Steven was born June 21, 1959 to Johnny B. and Ruth
Fowler in Abilene. He is a graduate of Abilene High School in 1977. He worked
for Merchants Fast Motor Lines, Abilene Ag. And Ricks Construction until his
health declined and he could not continue working. Steven loved to go bowling,
fishing and spending treasured time with his family. He was preceded in death by
his father, Johnny B. Fowler who passed away in 1989. Survivors include, one
son; Jason Fowler of Austin, his mother Ruth Fowler, a twin brother; Stuart
Fowler both of Abilene, one sister; Selene and her husband Danny Rose of Clyde,
a nephew; Cody Rose of Abilene, a niece; Stephanie Parks of Hagerstown,
Maryland, two grandson, one grand- daughter, one uncle, one aunt and many
cousins and friends.

Mount Ayr formerly of Creston, Master Chief Petty Officer Richard Dwain Franklin, U.S. Navy (Retired), passed
from this life on April 27, 2015 at the age of 84. He was born September 21, 1930 in Union County to Orville
and Frances (Shifflett) Franklin, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife Mildred (Keller)
Franklin, his daughter Monica and husband Gary Patience of Windsor Heights, daughter Lori Franklin of Mount
Ayr, son Michael Franklin of Mount Ayr, six grandchildren; Denise (Patience) Greenlees, Holly (Patience)
Nancarrow, Ryan Patience, Stephen Patience, Christina (Franklin) Perry, and Matthew Franklin, nineteen great
grandchildren; Jonathan, Violet, Autumn, Garrett, Rose, Angus, William, Summer, Reece, Sophia, Jake, Naomi,
Hunter, Wesson, Lili, Emma, Kaden, and Jesse, his sister Dee Anne and husband Jim Peroutka of Omaha, brother
Phil and wife Linda of Afton, and sister Kae Leta and husband Terry Davenport of Humeston, and many nieces and
nephews. Memorial and Military services for his remains will be held at Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount
Ayr, Iowa on Thursday April 30th at 2:00 pm. Family will be present from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm Thursday.

Clyde, TX -- Donna Kay Brown, 71, of Clyde died Tuesday December 7, 2010 in
Santa Fe. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday December 11, 2010 at the
Eula Methodist Church with Robert (Bob) Karlin officiating. Burial will follow
in the Eula Cemetery under the direction of Bailey-Howard Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Friday December 10, 2010 at the
funeral home. Mrs. Brown was born January 29, 1939 in Fort Collins, Colorado to
Sidney Doygne and Emma Agnes Marion (Peterson) Frease. She attended school and
graduated in Fort Collins. She married Ray Brown April 16, 1961 in Fort Collins.
They moved to Clyde from Abilene in 1972. She worked as a beautician while in
Colorado. Mrs. Brown is a member of Eula Methodist Church. Mrs. Brown is
survived by her husband Ray of Clyde; one son Curtis Wayne Brown and wife DeeAnn
of College Station; one daughter Kimberly Kay Wilson and husband Scott of
Woodward, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one brother
Edward Dean Frease and wife Bobbie of Fort Collins. She is preceded in death by
her parents and one brother Ronald Eugene Frease.

Clyde Edward Freeman, 40, of 659 W. Center St. died Saturday night in City
Hospital. He had been ill for some time. Born Sept. 15, 1913, in Clarion, O., he
was a son of Lafe and Marie Garrett Freeman. His wife, Mrs. Ruth Shifflet
Freeman, died some time ago. He was a construction worker. Surviving are his
five children, Clarice May, Ronald Eugene, James Clyde, Charles Edward, and
Eldon Lee; and his brother, Wilford Freeman of 199 Sharp St. Funeral services
will be conducted Tuesday at 2 pm in the M. H. Gunder Sons Funeral Home on W.
Center St. Rev. Melvin Truex will officiate. Burial will be in Marion Cemetery.

RAYMOND E. FRIDLEY STAUNTON, VA -- Raymond Edward Fridley, 89, husband of Louise
Elizabeth (Shiflett) Fridley, of Staunton, died Tuesday, October 2, 2012, at
Envoy of Staunton. He was born August 1, 1923, in Augusta County, a son of the
late Modie S. and Mary Elizabeth (Tredway) Fridley. Mr. Fridley was a veteran of
the U.S. Army having served during World War II. Prior to retirement, Mr.
Fridley was employed by Smith’s Transfer with 30 years of service. He was a
member of Miller Memorial Baptist Church and a lifetime member of VFW Post 2216.
In addition to his wife, family members include two sons and a daughter-in-law,
Gary L. and Toni Fridley and Terry D. Fridley, all of Staunton; a brother and
sister-in-law, Lonzie W. and Wilma Fridley of Florida; three sisters and two
brothers-in-law, Hazel and Harold Curry and Marie and John Clarke, all of
Staunton and Barbara Steven of Augusta Springs; four grandchildren, Renee Tilman
and husband, Robbie, Mark Fridley, Kyanna Fridley, and Kathy Fridley; four great
grandchildren, Samantha Bird, McKenzie Tilman, Katie Fridley, and Ethan Fridley;
and best friend, Henry McNeal. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m.
Friday, October 5, 2012, in Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens by the Rev.

in Shenandoah Hospice House, Fishersville. He was born June 4, 1962, in

Fridley. Mr. Fridley was employed by Berry Plastics. Family members include two
daughters, Kathryn Fridley and Kyanna Fridley, both of Staunton; a brother and

Robert (Bob) Frederick Frieler, 87,
of Columbia, died Wednesday, July 1, 2020. Born in Omaha, Nebraska, he was a
son of the late Frederick Arthur and Georgia Marie Frieler. Bob served in
the United States Navy and enjoyed a long career with IBM that began while
he was serving his country. His career with IBM began in Endicot, New York
where he and Pat married in 1956. While with IBM, Bob and Pat enjoyed 13
happy years in Cheraw, SC and then in Columbia where they have resided since
1970. After retiring, they enjoyed extensive travel that has provided many
happy memories. His interests included Genealogy and he served as a past
President of the Greenville Genealogy Society. Survivors include his wife of
64 years Patricia Ivey Frieler; children; Karen Ringer (Reid) of Saluda,
South Carolina, Steven Frieler of Cuenca, Ecuador; and Kathryn Elmore (Tim)
of Spartanburg, South Carolina. Grandchildren: Brooke Weber (Ike) of San
Diego, California; Bailey Elmore of New York State; and Anna Ringer of
Saluda, South Carolina. A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 6
th at Greenlawn Memorial Park at 12:30 o'clock officiated by Rev. Robert
Winburn. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 11:00 – 12:00
o'clock at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel. Memorials may be made

Sharon Eva
Frieler, died August 24, 2020, at Sanford USD Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD,
with her family by her side. She was 79. Sharon Eva Frieler was born
February 22nd, 1941, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Ralph and Eunice (Shaw) Hooker.
She attended North High School in Omaha, Nebraska and graduated in 1959.
After high school Sharon attended business school in Omaha. She would
eventually move to Sioux Falls, SD, in 1969 where she worked as a teacher's
aid for the Sioux Falls School District. In 1986, she obtained her
Bachelor's Degree of Arts from Augustana College. After she graduated, she
started her long-time career at Sioux Vocational Services (LifeScape). On
December 17, 1960, she was united in marriage with Rodney Frieler in Omaha,
Nebraska. In 1965, they were blessed with their first daughter, Joy. In
1965, they would move to Sioux Falls, SD. Hope, their second child, was
welcomed on July, 29th, 1975. Sharon worked 17 years at Sioux Vocational
Services where she would retire in December, 2005. Sharon was a member of
Southern Hills United Methodist Church and Sunnycrest Methodist Church. She
volunteered at Sioux Vocational Services after her retirement. Sharon and
Rodney would wake up every morning and have coffee while they played
cribbage together. They enjoyed watching the birds and squirrels come up
every morning to their deck. They enjoyed traveling. They particularly
enjoyed their trips to Hawaii, Alaska, and Washington. Those who remember
Sharon best will always remember her passion for serving others. Sharon had
a kind-hearted heart, which would make others feel at peace. Sharon was
always determined to persevere even with the most difficult physical
challenges facing her. Compassionate, loving, selfless, and gracious are
four words that can describe her. Her hobbies included gardening, sewing,
reading, and baking chocolate chip cookies. Grateful for having shared her
life are her husband, Rodney; daughter, Joy West, Sioux Falls, SD; gradson,
Ryan West, Sioux Falls, SD; and son-in-law, James West, Sioux Falls, SD. She
was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Hope Frieler. Funeral
Services will be held 11:00 Monday, August 31, 2020, at Miller Westside
Chapel, 6200 W. 41st Street in Sioux Falls. The family wil be present to
greet friends from 2-4 Sunday afternoon at the Westside Chapel. Due to the

Steven Michael Fritcher, 27, of Boise, passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at his home. Steven was born
on May 12, 1984 in Portland, Oregon. He attended Boise High School and classes at Portland Community College
with an emphasis in paramedics and EMT. Steven was employed at Hewlett Packard, and his hobbies included
shooting guns, snowboarding and working on cars. He was also an avid Seattle Seahawk fan. Steven is survived
by his daughter, Paige of Eagle; mother, Toni Fritcher; father and step-mother, Mark and Colleen Fritcher;
brothers, Derek, Matthew, and Daniel, all of Boise; stepbrother, David of Tacoma, WA; and his girlfriend,
Jill. A celebration of life and open house will be held from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Saturday, November 19, 2011

Frances Lorraine Stroop Funk, 76, of New Market VA, died October 29, 2017 at the
Life Care Center of New Market. She was born August 11, 1941 in Shenandoah
County to the late Raymond and Mary Ann Shifflett Stroop. Frances was a
homemaker. She had worked as a seamstress at H.D. Lee Company, and a cook at
Endless Caverns. She was a member of Manor Memorial Church and she enjoyed
camping. On December 8, 1967 she married Ray Funk, who survives. Also surviving
are four daughters, Michelle Robinson and husband Dennis of Rockingham, Yvonne
VanPelt and husband Mike of Timberville, Crystal Myers of Ruckersville, and
Karla Robbins and husband Christopher of Ridgely, MD; one son, Eric Scott Funk
and companion Tammy of New Market; 11 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren;
and numerous nieces and nephews. Her sister, Bertha Elizabeth Stroop, preceded
her in death. Her body was cremated. A Celebration of Life service will be held
at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Manor
Memorial United Methodist Church Building Fund, 9320 N. Congress Street, New

and wrestling. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Brazoria. He
