Comments: My line is through David's grandson, Hosea. My father told me Hosea's father was George Powell, but I am still trying to verify that.

Ed. note: I found an Ann Florence Shifflett while browsing through the Shiflett book. Her parents are listed as Columbia Shifflett and George Powell and her birth fits in the list of Columbia's children and I have added her in. This supports the oral history that Hosea's father was George Powell.

David Shiflet b. abt. 1812 in Rockingham Co., VA,  d. 5 Nov 1857 in Rockingham Co., VA, son of Thomas and Susan Shiflett as listed on his death record. The only Thomas this could be is the Thomas who m. Susannah Wyant in 1807. David would then be the grandson of Bland and Rincel Shiflett.

Lucinda Dean b. 5 Aug 1820 daughter of James Thornton and Susannah Harness (Harnist) Dean; granddaughter of John and Mary Mays Dean (note: other sources say Mary was a Nicely) She died in 1891 and is buried in an unmarked grave in Floyd Co, GA.  After David died Lucinda married Ambrose Dollar 26 Dec 1864 in Floyd Co., GA.  He died  between 1870 - 1880.; In the 1880 Floyd Co., GA, Census, Barkers District 92, Family 284, Mother Lucinda Dollar, age 60, born in VA, living in HH of Son, Jeremiah Shiflett

Mrs. Warnie Shifflett wife of Hosea Shifflett of near Yanacy, died at 6:30 o'clock last evening as a result of injuries received Wednesday morning, when she was kicked by a colt. The colt's hoof struck Mrs. Shifflett in the abdomen causing internal injuries. Dr. L. M. Lewis was called, but Mrs. Shifflett's injuries were such that she did not respond to medical treatment. Mrs. Shifflett was Miss. Warnie Coleman and was about fifty years old. The circumstances of her death are particularly sad and the family has the sympathy of a wide circle of friends. Surviving Mrs. Shifflett besides her husband are five children, Irvine and Ernest Shifflett, Mrs. Robert Sipe. Miss. Atha and Elizabeth Shifflett all of near Yancey. Funeral arrangements had not been completed by last night.
