Irene M. Shifflett, 75, of Orange County, and previously of Rockville, Maryland, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, October 2, 2014, in the comfort of her home as a result of vascular dementia and its complications. Irene was born on October 11, 1938, in Charlottesville, Virginia. She was the youngest daughter of the late Berman and Nettie Morris. Tragically her mother died when she was only five weeks old and she was raised by her aunt, Fannie "Frankie" Morris in Dyke, Virginia. Irene was also preceded in death by her brothers, Wilmer "Bill" Morris, Everett Morris, Wilbert Morris and Leo Morris, who died as an infant; her sisters, Lois Collins, Dorothy Dunn, Geraldine Owens, Shirley Currier and Lettie Knight. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Walter Shifflett Sr. of Orange County, Virginia; five children, Wanda Shifflett of Ruckersville, Pamela Frazier and her husband, Chuck, of Damascus, Maryland, Walter Shifflett Jr. and his wife, Lily, of Laytonsville, Maryland, Tammy Frost and her husband, Tommy, of Damascus, Maryland, Porter Shifflett and his wife, Shannon, of Clarksburg, Maryland. Irene also leaves behind her 14 cherished grandchildren, Dwayne and Michael Britton whom she raised as her own and Dwayne's wife, Renae, Lisa and Robert Kolpack, Amanda Frazier, James, Patrick, Steven and Nicholas Shifflett, Sarah and Chase Frost, Corinne, Caroline and Sophia Shifflett; five great-grandchildren, Kayla, Drew and Tyler Britton, Cheyenne Wright and Easton Simms; two brothers, Roger Shifflett and his wife, Carolyn, and Charles Morris for whom she cared for 32 years; and two sisters, Eleanor "Sis" Breeden and Brenda Morris. Irene was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Madison, Virginia. She will be sorely missed by her loving family as well as her church family. Irene McDaniel Shifflett Morris, 88, of Greene County, Virginia, passed away at her daughter's home and went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 27, 2021. Irene was born on September 14, 1932. The daughter of the late James Arthur McDaniel and Hattie Lam McDaniel. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Franklin D. Shifflett and Fred A. Morris Sr.; brothers, Ellis, Dennis, and Raymond McDaniel; sisters, Madeline Shifflett, Della Rodgers, Gladys Breeden, Ada Shifflett, and Annie Mae Roach; and stepchildren, Stanley Morris, and Arnold Morris. Irene Shifflett Wampler, 88, of Waynesboro, passed away early on Monday morning, April 12, 2010, at Augusta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Fishersville. She was born on August 13, 1921, in Elkton, a daughter of the late Alma Shifflett and Lusby Shifflett. As a registered nurse, she retired in 1985 after 45 years of service. Mrs. Wampler was a 1940 graduate of The Rockingham Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Julius E. Wampler; and her sister, Mildred Coffman. She is survived by her son, Dan W. Wampler and his wife, Janet, of Kemah, Texas; and her grandson, Scott Wampler of Dallas, Texas; her daughter, Betty Jo Hinebaugh of Waynesboro; her sister, Helen Fort and her husband, Lewis, of Summerville, South Carolina; and a special friend, Jill Stachowski. She was born Jan. 3, 1905, in Linville and was a daughter of the late Charles O. and Sallie Rhodes Taylor. Mrs. Shifflett was a member of Linville United Church of Christ. On Feb. 26, 1922, she married Bernard L. "Teen" Shifflett, who died June 1, 1976. Surviving are four sons, Bernard "Bud" Shifflett of Waynesboro and Howard "Pete," Gary L. and Stanley W. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reuben John "Buddy" Shiflett, Jr. on April 27, 1998. She was a 1962 graduate of Sherwood High School Sandy Springs, MD and attended University of the District of Columbia. Irma retired from the U.S. Public Health Service in April 1995. Other employment she held while still employed with the U.S. Public Health Service included Friendly Ice Cream Frederick, MD, The World Bazaar Frederick, MD, McCrory's in Hagerstown, MD and most recently employed as a Secretary with the Potomac Charge United Methodist Church. She was of the Protestant Faith. She was a member of Red Feather Council #59 Degree of Pocahontas of Williamsport, MD. Irma volunteered with many schools in Washington County. She enjoyed spending time with her family, loved to travel, and visited all 50 states and many U.S. territories. Miss Shifflett was a 1958 graduate of Albemarle High School, the first four year's class, and an active member of Bethel Baptist Church, Palmyra. She had worked briefly at Centel and was retired from the Charlottesville Redevelopment and Housing Authority after 28 years of service. He grew up in Odessa Texas with 2 older brothers and 2 younger sisters. He was his momma's baby boy and could do no wrong in her eyes! He was a proud graduate of Permian High School class of 1967 and he never missed a reunion with his old buddies. After high school he joined the US army and was stationed at Homestead AFB Florida. He earned the honors of National Defense Service Medal, Sharpshooter Badge and Marksman Badge. He is survived by his 3 children Sharron Forrest and husband Daryn of Hobbs NM, J.R. Spence and wife Mina of Edmond, OK and his baby boy Cody Shifflet and wife Heather of Granbury Texas. He is also survived by his oldest brother Gene Shifflet and wife Pat of Houston Texas, brother Gary Shifflet and wife Helen of Hurst Texas and his sister Charlotte Hanson of Odessa Texas. He also leaves behind 9 grandchildren, 5 nephews and 3 nieces. Ray had a very special bond with his family and especially his brother Gary and his sister Charlotte. He spent almost every Thanksgiving with Charlotte and her family. He always said that he loved her cooking and he would eat several plates full and then some! On Wednesdays he would meet his brother Gary for coffee and he said they always had the best visits, but joked they agreed on everything but politics. Ray loved life and would spark a conversation with anyone. His smile never faded and his joy was contagious. We mourn him leaving but will cherish the memories until we meet again! Mr. Shifflet was retired from the state highway department and had been former owner and operator of the Home Store in Ansonia. Preceding him in death were his wife Nellie (Collins), two brothers and a sister. A member of Eastern Star, he was a son of the late William and Ella (Perkins) Shifflet. Survivors include one daughter, Betty Jean Cook of Iowa City, Iowa; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and a sister, Opal Shifflet of Cincinnati. Services will be conducted 11 am. ELKTON - Irvin Shifflett, 74, 0f 97 N. Stuart Ave., Elkton died Thursday morning at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, where he has been a patient since Nov. 13. He had been ill several years. He was born Jan. 15, 1907, in Elkton and was the son of the late Marvin and Rebecca Jane Powell Shifflett. Mr. Shifflett, who retired form the Navy after 26 years of service, was a member of the Upper Room Church in Elkton and the Harrisonburg Moose Lodge. On June 20, 1927, he married Lona A. Shifflett, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Marvin Wilson Shifflett of Sandston; three half sisters, Lillian Haney, Lottie Lawson, and Helen Davis, all of Elkton; a half brother, Miller Baugher of Elkton; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday at the Upper Room Church by the Rev. Johnny Hensley. Burial will be in Elk Run Cemetery at Elkton. Irvin Delmar Shifflett, 66, a well known resident of Harrisonburg and a former resident of the Elkton, Swift Run, and McGaheysville communities, died unexpectedly at noon, Friday, while working in the garden of his home, at 65 Ott Street. Mr. Shifflett was apparently in his usual health and had worked Thursday night at the Duplant Corporation at Grottoes where he was employed as a shuttle polisher. He had held this position for the past 15 years. He had returned home form work and had eaten his breakfast and had gone into his garden to do a little work before retiring. His unexpected death came as a shock to his family and to his host of friends and acquaintances throughout the city and county. Death was apparently due to a heart attack. A son of the later Edward Shifflett and Annie Maiden Shifflett, he was born on Feb. 23, 1889 in the Swift Run community and spent practically his entire life in this and the McGaheysville and Elkton communities, until 15 years ago when he moved to Harrisonburg. On May 21, 1913 he married Miss Stella Rion, who survives him. Besides his wife, he is survived by five children, Ellsworth D. Shifflett, Joseph A. Shifflett, and Mrs. Guy (Charlotte) Taylor, all of Harrisonburg; Mrs. Paul (Mildred) Propst, of Rochelle, Ill.; and Mrs. Johnnie (Jewel) Campbell, of Strasburg. He also leaves 18 grandchildren, one brother, Ashby Shifflett, of McGaheysville; and two half-sisters, Mrs. Lester Leap, of McGaheysville; and Mrs. Clint Odom, of Johnson City, Tenn. A daughter, Vernelle, and two half-brothers, Joseph Lam and Lester Lam, preceded him in death. Mr. Shifflett possessed a kind and friendly personality and was admired by all who knew him. He was a member of the Mt. Zion EUB Church.

Mr. Shifflett was born Sept. 21, 1909, in Rockingham County, and was the son of the late Cornelius and Bessie Shifflett. He is also preceded in death by an infant daughter and sisters, Eva Gooden, Mary Shifflett and Mildred Whitesell, brothers, Maynard and Russell Shifflett and one grandson, Stephen Miller. He worked for Norfolk and Western Railroad, Wayne Manufacturing Company and Duplan Manufacturing Company in Grottoes and he retired from farming. Marshall and husband, Charles, of Rocky Bar, and Shirley S. Miller and husband, Richard, of Elkton; one son, Forrest Shifflett and wife, Cheryl, of New Hope; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Beulah Shifflett of Delmar, Del., and Zena Shifflett of Rocky Bar; numerous nieces and nephews and extended family members, Louis and Frances Marshall, J.P. and Hazel Roach and their families. The Rev. Stuart Wood and Pastor Wayne Wright will conduct a graveside service at 3:00 on Sunday, April 29, at Mount Olivet Cemetery in McGaheysville. Brogue -- Irvin J. Shiflett, of Brogue, entered into rest on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at 9:58 pm at his residence, surrounded by his family, at the age of 79. He was the husband of Poulett J. (Harman) Shiflett of Brogue, to whom he married on June 20, 1964, celebrating 56 years together. He was born on October 31, 1941 in Albemarle County, Virginia and was the son of the late Elizabeth (Garrison) Keyton. Irv was the Vice President of Domestic Travel for the AAA Central Penn Auto Club, retiring after 42 years of service. He was an active member of the Red Lion Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses being baptized in 1957 and serving as an elder since 1972. In addition to the ministry, he loved to putter around his well-kept home and play guitar with friends. His kind and peaceful personality was a positive influence. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Besides his wife Poulett, he leaves to cherish his memory a son, Jeffery B. Shiflett and his wife Judy of Red Lion, and two daughters, Joy L. Hurst and her husband Allen of Elizabethtown and Jennifer E. Stambaugh and her husband Benrus III of York. He was the loving grandfather to Conner, Benrus IV and Kelsey. He has a brother, Thomas Shiflett of Baltimore MD, along with nieces and nephews. Cremation will take place with Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion. Irvin Marshall Shifflett, 66, of Elkton, died Saturday afternoon at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, where he had been a patient since August 29th. Mr. Shifflett was born December 9, 1927, in Rockingham County near Elkton and was the son of Zean W. Shifflett of Elkton and the late Nellie Meadows. He was a sheet metal worker for Snyders Plumbing & Heating for over 30 years before retiring. He attended the Elkton Pentecostal Church and was a member of the Junior Order of United American Mechanics. On April 12, 1952, he married the former Loretta Webb who survives. Also surviving are a son, Larry W. Shifflett of Elkton; three brothers, Bobby A., Harvey Lewis, and Alva Lee Shifflett, all of Elkton; three grandchildren, Amber, Aaron and Andrew Shifflett, all of Harrisonburg. Deceased was born in Madison county, Ky., then 4th day of march, 1846, and remained a citizen of the county of his birth until about 28 years ago, when he removed to Arkansas, and there engaged in the legitimate pursuits of a farmer, and by his industry, frugality and economy, accumulated a good estate. He leaves his family consisting of wife and six children, well provided for. His estate is one of the best in the county. Some years since he united with the Baptist church of his adopted home and lived a consistent and honored member of same until death. Irvine Lee Shiflett, 84, of Earlysville, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2014, at Martha Jefferson Hospital. He was born on November 12, 1929, in Charlottesville, and was the son of the late William Herbert Shiflett and Alma Hughes Shiflett Pogolowitcz. He served in the United States Army and fought in the Korean War; while deployed, he received the Bronze Star and the rank of Master Sargent. He was a lifetime member of the 504 Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne and the 187th Regimental Combat Team. He was a member of the local V.F.W., the American Legion and a charter member of the Disabled American Veterans. Lee owned and operated the University Diner ("the UD") on West Main Street with his parents from 1945 until 1985. The family also owned and operated the Driftwood Beach Motel in Ormond Beach Florida from 1971 until 1977. He loved the outdoors and was always seen sporting a nice tan. Lee is survived by his wife, Fay Dixon Shiflett; and his four daughters, Sandra Bower and her husband, Wayland Bower, Pamela Wagner and her husband, Robert Wagner, Kimbly Redman and her husband, Thomas Redman, and Sallie Harvey; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Lloyd Shiflett; and his two sons, Quinn Shiflett and Herbie Shiflett. His wife was the late Dessie Weaver Shifflett. Mr. Shifflett is survived by four sons, Odie and Roy Shifflett of Charlottesville, Floyd Shifflett of Elkton and Billie Shifflett of Barboursville; four daughters, Mrs. Edith Branham, Mrs. Ann Dowell and Mrs. Lula Rodgers of Charlottesville; Mrs. Bernice Shifflett of Alexandria; 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Isaac Earl "Buster" Shiflet, 92, of Waco, Texas, was born on April 9, 1929, in Bedias, Texas. He peacefully entered the gates of Heaven with his loving wife by his side on Sunday, February 20, 2022. Buster grew up on their family farm in North Zulch, Texas. He graduated from Sam Houston State University in 1950 with a degree in Agriculture Science. He then went to work for Dow Chemical in Freeport, Texas. There he met and married the love of his life of 63 years, Margaret "Louise" George Shiflet. Buster accepted Jesus Christ as his savior at a young age and followed him throughout his life. Because of his faith we have peace knowing that he is spending eternity with our Lord! Buster and Louise enjoyed attending church together and had many dear friends. Buster enjoyed spending time with his family traveling, camping, hunting, and fishing. He was a big sports fan as well. He enjoyed watching football and attending the Baylor Bear's basketball games. He is proceeded in death by his parents, Ernest and Inez Shiflet, his brothers Grady, and James Shiflet, his sister Mabel Shiflet Hanson, his granddaughter Savana Shiflet, and his son Robert "Wayne" Shiflet. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Shifflett, and a sister, Norma Puffenbarger. Isaac was a member and attended Bible Study Ministries. In 2001, he retired from McQuay after 33 years of service. He enjoyed working on cars, wood working, playing his Martin guitar, but most of all spending time with his family, including their Amazon parrot. Born to Reuben and Eva Soltz, Isabel grew up in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood of Pittsburgh and was a proud graduate of Taylor Allderdice High School, class of 1939. Isabel traveled the world as an army wife, living for several years in Germany, Italy, and army bases throughout the United States. After returning to Pittsburgh, Isabel passed the civil service exam and worked for 35 years as an Executive Secretary for the Department of Housing and Urban Development. With her vivacious energy and outgoing personality, she was truly the queen of her office, and was known for organizing popular social events, particularly her festive "Bagel Bashes." Upon her retirement in 1986, she entered a second career as a volunteer. She devoted countless hours to the development office of the JCC at Forbes and Murray and as an assistant in arts and crafts at what was then the Jewish Home for the Aged on Brown's Hill Road. Isabel could often be seen walking up Murray Avenue wearing one of her signature hats. She greeted everyone she met with a smile and knew the names of all the people who worked in the places she frequented. She was a fervent Steelers fan and a lifelong Democrat. Isabel is survived by her beloved brother, Morton Soltz; her loving children, Marsha Shiflet (Bob Santoro) and Zelda Lee Mason (Peter Hamlin); her adoring grandchildren, Rachel Mason (Sharón Friedner) and Michelle Rubenstein (Isaac); and three great-grandchildren. She was born Oct. 23, 1933, in Augusta County, daughter of the late Charles Luther and Beatrice Virginia Walker Dameron. Isabelle loved her family and her cats. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Shifflett, and two sons, Charles Allen and James D. Purcell. Survivors include two sons, Ricky Purcell and his fiance, Tessie Odgen, of Stuarts Draft and Michael Shifflett of Stuarts Draft; one sister, Frances Bock of North Carolina; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Isabelle Juanita "Belle" Shifflett, 81, of Waynesboro, died Saturday, September 21, 2013 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born March 6, 1932 in Waynesboro, she was a daughter of the late Kermit Moore and Phyllis Lafferty Moore Saye. Isabelle's greatest joy in life was her children and her family. Due to her health in recent years she was unable to attend church but loved watching Rev. Charles Stanley every Sunday morning. Each year beginning in January she would read her bible from cover to cover. She enjoyed reading, gardening (she got her green thumb from her grandmother, Cornellia), traveling, cooking and sewing. Survivors include her loving husband of her lifetime, Clarence Shifflett, whom she married November 1, 1968; daughter, Deborah K. Iscie B. "Nannie" Shifflet, 83, of 1040 S, Dogwood Drive, Harrisonburg died Wednesday morning at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient since Feb. 18. Mrs. Shifflet was born March 12, 1899, 'at Cherry Grove, W.Va., and was a daughter of the late Adam and Cora Lambert Bennett. She was a member of the Harrisburg Hose Co. 4 auxiliary and Asbury United Methodist Church. She was raised in the Mount Clinton area and moved to Harrisonburg after her marriage in March 1916 to Raleigh M. Shifflet, who died Sept. 2,1949. Surviving are a daughter, Irene Peterman of Harrisonburg, with whom Mrs. Shifflet had been living; a son, R. William Shifflet, also of Harrisonburg; a sister, Rhoda Long of Mount Crawford; four grand- children; and six great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m: Friday in Weavers Mennonite Cemetery by the Rev. Thomas L. Coffman. He was employed at J.B. Hunt before becoming disabled. He enjoyed family trips to Virginia Beach and Tennessee and hunting and fishing. On Oct. 5, 1968, he married Linda Faye (Kite) Shifflett, who survives. Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Melissa Breeden, and companion, Steve, of Elkton; a son, Brandon W. Shiflett, a farmer and stockman is a longtime resident of Dewey county. He lived north of Oakwood since 1943. He is survived by his wife, Nora, of the home; and nine children, Ivory, Gerald, and Carol Dean, all of the home; Harold, Oakland; Chester Newman, Calif.; Cleo Fay; Mrs. Florence Bronner, Gridley, Calif.; Mrs. Wanda England, Oakwood; and Mrs. Roley Thomas, Sacramento, Calif.

Ivory Preston Shifflett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hasting Shifflett, was born in Gentry county, Mo., March 27, 1888, and passed away at the Thomas Memorial Hospital Thomas, Oklahoma, March 31, 1952, at the age of 64 years and four days. In 1901 he moved with his parents to Lenora, Oklahoma, where he grew to manhood. On March 21, 1911, he was united in marriage to Miss Nora Blumer. To this union nine children were born. They are: F1orence Bronner, Gridley, California Ruby Thomas, Sacramento, California, Wanda England, Oakwood, Oklahoma, Harold, Orland, Calif., Chester, Newman, Calif.; Cleo, Fay, Ok1a, and Ivory jr., Gerald and Carol Dean, all of the home address. In addition to his wife and nine children, he leaves to mourn his loss two sisters, Lucy Dick of Newton, Kans., and Icie McCool of Geary, Okla.; and one brother, Charley, of Sacramento, Calif. Also, thirteen grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. His parents, two sisters., Ocie Dick and Elsie Shamburg, and two brothers, Harley and Delmy, have preceded him in death. He moved with his family to California in 1924, where they lived until they returned to Oklahoma, settling this time near Oakwood, where they were living at the time of his death. Ivory was a member of the board of education of the Oakwood schools at the time of his passing. All who knew him will say that he was truly a kind and loving husband and father, and a true friend. His passing is a great loss to his community. Funeral services were conducted in the Oakwood school auditorium at 2 p.m., Thursday, April 3, with Rev. Elmer Haddon officiating. Burial was in the Riley cemetery under the direction of Spies-Shaw Funeral Home of Selling.

Ivory was born May 19, 1931 in Willows, Calif., the son of Ivory Preston and Nora Bloomer Shifflett Sr. He was a cowboy and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married Shirley Lavelle Hinkle Dec. 5, 1955, in Wichita Falls, Texas. He farmed and ranched in Watonga, before moving to Wyoming in 1971. He was foreman for several ranches there before moving to Duncan in 1996. He worked for J.W. Hines and was employed by Fleetwood Farms at the time of his death. He was a member of the V.F.W. Ivory is survived by his wife Shirley, of the home; two sons, Tony Preston Shifflett and wife DeCee, of Laramie, Wy., and Dusty Lee Shifflett and wife Susie, of Duboise, Id.; one daughter, Cheryl Schwartzkopf of Douglas, Wy.; two brothers, Jack Shifflett and wife Arthena, and Gerald Shifflett and wife Lolly, all of Oakwood; two sisters, Wanda England, of Arkansas City, Kan., and Ruby Thomas of Southerland, Ore.; and eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
