Alice LaVerne Gibson Addington, 79, of Earlysville, passed away peacefully at home on December 1, 2021. Born on September 28, 1942, in Charlottesville, Va., she was the daughter of the late Charlie Gibson and the late Margret Lyle Martin. She was preceded in death by her sister, Linda Jean Frazier; brother, Thomas Wesley Gibson; and grandson, Daniel E. Cason. LaVerne loved working in her flower gardens,cooking hot, home cooked meals for her family, and decorating for the Christmas season. She was a rare person that possessed a hospitable warmth and an infectious kindness. Heaven gained a beautiful angel. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Norman P. Addington; her daughter, Rhonda K. Cason and her husband, Floyd; her son, Gregory P. Addington and his wife, Jannine; brothers, Charles E. "Butch" Gibson and his wife, Peggy, Cecil A. Gibson and wife, Denise, and Calvin B. Bishop, and his wife, Ashlea; sisters, Norma L. Houchens, Janet L. Bishop, Cathy A. Fault, and M. Fay Bishop; grandsons, Michael P. Addington and his wife, Ashley, Timothy W. Addington and his wife, Kat, and Matthew C. Cason; and six great-grandchildren, Paul C. Addington, Lewis W. Addington, Ava M. Cason, Elijah M. Cason, Alice B. Cason and Alice V. Addington. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. on Saturday, December 4, 2021, at Hill and Wood Funeral Home located in Charlottesville Va. ALMA WALTON GIBSON

Alma Walton Gibson, a lifelong resident of Albemarle County, Va., was born on March 29, 1929, and died peacefully in her sleep on Monday, November 14, 2016.She grew up during the Great Depression as the youngest daughter of the late Sam and Myrtie Walton. Shewas also predeceased by her three sisters, Eunice Batten, Lois Pugh, and Maggie Garrison; and one grandson, Jareb David Gibson. Alma married her high school sweetheart, the late William Arthur Gibson, and they enjoyed 62 happy years together. They raised five children, David William Gibson and wife, Kay of Norfolk, Va., Donald Ray Gibson and wife, Beth, Dennis Wayne Gibson and Mary Fox, Terri Gibson Morris and husband, Scott of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Tracy Dawn McDonald and husband, Matt. She deeply loved her 16 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her in-laws, Herman and Frances Loose, Nancy Gibson, and Peggy Gibson. She lit up the Greencroft Club with her incredible style, grace, and hospitality for 28 years. Her generous spirit, infectious laugh, and poignant stories will live long in our memories. She had many friends, including special friends, Bill and Nancy Goodman, Kenneth Eugene, and Jean Varner. She leaves a huge hole in the hearts of those who knew her, and she will be sorely missed. Alphonso L. Gibson, 58 years old, died yesterday after a lingering sickness. He is survived by his wife, Clara Cornelia (Sprouse) Gibson, and ten children, five boys and five girls, Morton Gibson, Mrs. Fred Sprouse, Cora, Aubrey, Adam Lee, Herbert, Lawrence, Opal, Clara, and Lavelle. He also leaves his mother, Mrs. Henry D. Gibson and four brothers and three sisters. The funeral will be at St. John's Mission, Ivy, Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock.

Alvin Glenn Gibson, 62, of Crozet died at his residence Thursday, October l9, 2006. He was born June 15, 1944, the son of the late Harold Lloyd Gibson and Effie Lee Gibson. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Gibson of Crozet; three daughters, Tracy Christian of Crozet, Dana Baird and her husband, Todd, of Troy, and Kristen Gibson of Hollywood, California; one brother, Captain Ed Gibson of Charlottesville; two granddaughters, McKenzie and Taylor. He retired from Acme Visible Records after over 30 years of service. He was a lifetime member of Crozet Volunteer Fire Department, a member of National Street Rod Association, National Rifle Association and Single Action Shooting Society. Annie "Polly" Gibson, 78, of Charlottesville, died December 6, 2003, in a local hospital. Born March 31, 1925, in Albemarle County, she was the daughter of the late John and Florence Walton Batten. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Russell Batten, Vernon Batten, Jack Batten and William Batten. Polly was employed by the David Carr family, whom she loved as her own, for over 50 years. She is survived by her son, Jimmy Gibson and his wife Thelma of Charlottesville; a grandson, Shannon Gibson and his wife Nichole of Palmyra; two great grandchildren, Cody and Logan; two brothers, John Batten of White Hall and Herbert Batten and his wife Peachie of Dyke; a sister-in-law, Lucille Batten of Charlottesville; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mt. Moriah Cemetery with Reverend Pat Mellott officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Teague Funeral Home. Anthony Scott “Tony” Gibson, 45, of Grottoes, passed away Jan. 23, 2009, at the University of Virginia Medical Center. Mr. Gibson was born Aug. 3, 1963, in Harrisonburg, and was the son of George Lee Gibson Sr. of Waynesboro and Eleanor Jean Shifflett Eppard of Elkton. He was a 1981 graduate of Spotswood High School and was an inspector at RR Donnelly. He enjoyed woodworking. Besides his parents, he is survived by two sons, Todd Gibson and Anthony Scott Gibson Jr., both of Grottoes; a daughter, Lindsey Gibson of Grottoes; three brothers, Thomas “Gibby” Gibson of Shenandoah, Lee Gibson of Grottoes and Mark Gibson of Elkton; a sister, Angela Banks of Grottoes; a paternal grandmother, Addie Gibson of Port Republic. Eugene Souder will conduct the graveside service 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Williams family cemetery in Sandy Bottom near Elkton. Betty Gibson Shiflett, 56, of Crozet died Saturday, May 6, 1995 in a Charlottesville hospital. She was born May 15, 1938, in Albemarle County. She was the daughter of the late Jesse Gibson and Edith Franklin Gibson. She is survived by her husband, Charles F. Shiflett of Crozet; a daughter, Kimberly K.S. Allen of Durham, N.C.; and two brothers, Fred Gibson of Crozet and Homer Gibson of Norfolk. She was cafeteria manager for Brownsville Elementary School in Crozet. She was a member of the Ivy Creek United Methodist Church. The family suggests donations be made to the Ivy Creek United Methodist Church for the Cardiac Care Unit at the University of Virginia Hospital. Bobby Thomas Gibson, 62, of Keswick, died Sunday, April 6, 2003, in a local hospital. Born in Charlottesville, on February 17, 1941, he was the son of the late Clyde Amos Gibson and Myrtle Virginia Marsh Gibson. Mr. Gibson was a member of Zion United Methodist Church and was employed by Lexis Law Publishers. He is survived by his wife, Wanda Gayle Dudley Gibson of Keswick; one son, Brandon Thomas Gibson of Keswick and his girlfriend, Amanda Spain; two brothers, Clyde A. Gibson Jr., and his wife, Margaret, of Greenwood, Harold F. "Phil" Gibson and his wife, Becky, of Charlottesville. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Teague Chapel with the Reverend Will Montgomery officiating. Interment will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens. The funeral for Mrs. Bonnie Lou Viands Gibson, 21, of Rt. 2, Elkton will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home by the Rev, Charles F. Kindred. Burial will be in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in McGaheysville. Mrs. Gibson died of gunshot wounds early Thursday morning, and her husband, Charles W. Gibson, has been charged with murder in the shooting. She was born Feb. 12, 1951 and was a daughter of Max Viands and Thelma Kyger Shifflett. She attended Montevideo High School. In addition to her husband, whom she married April 9, 1966, she is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Lynn Gibson her step-father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Lynnwood Shifflett of McGaheysvil1e, her father and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs. Max Viands of Rt. 2, Elkton; three sisters, Mrs. Kathy Shifflett, Mrs. Connie Shifflett and Mrs. Denise Monger, all of Elkton; two brothers, Erby Lee Viands of McGaheysville and Wayne O. Viands of Elkton: two half sisters, Masses Becky and Rachel Viands, both of Elkton; three half-brothers, Jay, Timmy and Bobby Viand's. all of Elkton. and her grandparents. Gibson Autopsy Report Received
An autopsy report on an Elkton-area woman shot Thursday by her husband has been received by the Rockingham sheriff's department. Sheriff Glenn Weatherholtz said Sunday night he has turned over the report to the Commonwealth's Attorney. He declined to release the report, which could be used in court to prosecute Charles William Gibson, 24, for the death of his wife, Bonnie Lou, 22. Gibson has told police the shot which killed his wife went off accidentally when he tripped on porch steps near the couple's Va. 892 home in the Rocky Bar section. Gibson remained in the county jail Sunday in lieu of $10,000 bond

Aviation Structural Mechanic (Aviation Warfare/ Navel Aircrewman) First Class Petty Officer Brian Patrick Gibson, 33, of Greenwood, Va. died on Wednesday July 16, 2003 in a helicopter crash near Naval Air Station Sigonella located in Sicily, Italy. Brian "Gibby" Gibson served in the United States Navy for over 12 years. He was born May 28, 1970 in Charlottesville, Va. He arrived at Helicopter Support Squadron Four (HC-4) in 1992, where he attained qualifications as a MH-53E Helicopter Crew Chief, Quality Assurance Inspector, Assistant NATOPS Instructor and Functional Checkflight Crewchief. While at HC-4, he detached to such locations as Babrain, Italy, Albania, Sierra Leone, and Libera where he participated in Operation Assured Response in 1995. In 1998 he transferred to NAS Sigonella Operations to fly on the UC-12 and the UC-26 aircraft. He attained qualifications as NATOPS Program Manager and compiled over 1200 hours of flight time in these model aircraft. AM1 Gibson returned to HC-4 in November of 2001 where he was the Leading Petty Officer for detachment "Team Bravo". He will be greatly missed by HC-4, friends in Sigonella and the United States Navy. He is survived by his wife Daniela Gibson of Motta S. Anatasia in Sicily; his parents Clyde and Margaret (Peggy) Gibson of Greenwood, Va.; his brother, Mike and his wife Norman. Gibson and their son Joshua of Waynesboro, Va.; his sister, Michelle Moran and her children Ryan and Kayla of Greenwood, Va.; his sister-in-law Lora and her husband Larry Colquitt and their children Charmiela and Darien from Sicily; he is also survived by a number of Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. Calvin Carroll Gibson, 61, of Route 2, Scottsville died Monday, May 14, 1990 in a local hospital. Born in Albemarle County on Sept. 5, 1928, he was a son of the late Matthew Franklin and Carrie Elizabeth Woodson Gibson. Mr. Gibson was employed by King & Roberts for 36 ½ years. He was a lifelong member of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church of Hickory Hill a veteran of the US Army and the Korean War, and a member of Charlottesville Moose Lodge No. 1028. Surviving are his wife, Eunice Morris Gibson of Fluvanna County; three daughters, Yvonne Chilsolm of Charlottesville, Pamela Cersley of Albemarle County and Denise Sprouse of the home; two sons, Carl Gibson of Troy and David Gibson of the home; a brother, Franklin R. Gibson of Charlottesville; three grandchildren, Carrie Beasley, Harry Beasley and Matthew Gibson; and three nieces, Gail Fisher, Ingrid Payne and Jeanette Lawrence. Carroll Wayne Gibson, 53, of Barboursville, went to be with our Lord on Friday, March 4, 2011, at his residence. He was born on October 10, 1957, in Gordonsville, a son of James Wilton Gibson and Thelma Williams Gibson, both of Barboursville, Virginia. He was a member a Knights Chapel, Church of the Brethren, in Barboursville. Mr. Gibson is also survived by his wife, Karen S. Gibson of Barboursville; one daughter, Christina N. Gibson and her companion, Brian Wolfrey, both of Barbousville; three brothers, Bruce Gibson and his wife, Candace, of Ruckersville, Keith Gibson and his wife, Lynn, of Louisa and Shawn Gibson of Gordonsville; three sisters, Glenda Etheridge and her husband, Steven, of Ruckersville, Patricia Turner and her husband, Charles, of Madison, Karen Piercy and her husband, Michael, of Rochelle; and two grandchildren, Ashton Wolfrey and Abagail Wolfrey, both of Barboursville. Catherine Gibson Shiflett, 78, formerly of Waynesboro and in recent years a resident of [Bowie] Bowle, Maryland, died Monday, December 28, 1992 in Johnston-Willis Hospital. She was born on November 23, 1914, in Covington, a daughter of Everett and Myrtle Speck Gibson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stonewall Jackson Shiflett, died September 5, 1973, and a son, Bobby Shiflett. She was a member of Central Baptist Church in Waynesboro. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara J. Friel of Farmington, NY, and Constance Henderson of Powhatan; three sons, Sylvester of Powhatan, Herman of Bowle, and Paul Shiflett of Waxhaw, NC; one brother, Corner Gibson of Waynesboro; 21 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. A service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in McDow Funeral Home by the Rev. Vernon Berry. Burial will be in Augusta Memorial Park. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Cecil Allen Gibson, 90, of White Hall, Va., went home to his Heavenly Father on October 24, 2017, surrounded by his family. Born on February 23, 1927, he was the son of the late Thomas L. Gibson and Ida S. Gibson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three brothers Clyde, Stewart, and Jimmy Gibson; and one very dear sister, Estelle Blake. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 67 years, Faye; his son, Tony (Cindy); daughters, Debra Shelton (Johnny), and Robin Walton (Jeff); five grandchildren Christy, Jessica, Ashley, Joshua, and Brian; one step granddaughter, Miranda; eight great grandchildren, and one on the way. Cecil Ashby Gibson, age 71, of Charlottesville, passed away on Friday, November 9, 2018. He was born on February 9, 1947, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, Va., to the late Elwood Eugene and Lena McAllister Gibson. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Elwood Gibson; sister-in-law, Barbara Gibson; nephew, Ricky Gibson; and brothers--in-law, Thomas Morris and V.L. James Jr. He is survived by the love of his life and mother of his children, Connie Clark; daughters, Tracy Gibson and fiancé, Stewart Weaver, of Deerfield, Va., and Katelyn Gibson and husband, Hussam Subhi, of Charlottesville, Va; sons, Scott Gibson of Charlottesville, Va., Jonathan Clark and wife, Melody Clark, of Stanardsville, Va., and Michael Clark and fiancee', Erin Morrell, of Lynchburg, Va.; and special grandchildren, Briana Marsh, Samanthia Stover, Logan Clark, Amaya Clark, Stewart J. Weaver, and Makayla Weaver. Also, surviving are five sisters, Rebecca Gibson Lively and husband, Raymond, of Charlottesville, Leura Gibson Crawford of Charlottesville, Peggy Gibson Morris of Scottsville, Dorothy Gibson Lively and husband, Gene, of Charlottesville, and Betty James of Crozet; brother, James Gibson and wife, Evelyn, of North Garden; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. Cecil was a lifelong resident of Charlottesville. He graduated from Lane High School, and was a dedicated employee of the ABC Department in Charlottesville for 28 years before he became ill. Batten Gibson. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Shelia May Gibson. Mr. Gibson was employed in the construction industry. He is survived by two daughters, Stephanie Gibson and her fiancee, Frank Jamieson, of Arvonia and Breanna Gibson of Scottsville; three sisters, Janna Lee Bruce and her husband, Roy, of Louisa, Peggy Jean Critzer and her husband, Wendell, of Louisa and Sharon Faye Harris and her husband, Degie, of Afton; three brothers, Carl Gibson and his wife, Rebecca, of Crozet, James W. Born in Harrisonburg on June 14, 1922, she attended Harrisonburg H.S. and then she married Carl F. Gibson of Penn Laird in 1939 at age 17, and had two children, Carl F. Gibson Jr., who was born on Christmas Day 1942 and died five days later on Dec. 30, 1942, and Carla Y. Gibson Wagner Pence of Penn Laird, on March 15, 1945, shortly after Charlotte had received the news that Carl had been "Killed In Action" in Italy, at the end of World War II. During the war, she lived in Kansas, and also in Leadville, Colo. NEAR Camp Hale, to be with Carl while he trained to be a ski paratrooper. She remained a war widow, and raised her daughter for 13 years until she married her second husband, H.S. "Jim" Neighbours of Lynchburg. She remained married to her second husband until his death in 2001. She had two additional children, Ricky D. Neighbours of West Palm Beach, Fla. and Darla Denise Neighbours Meyer of Winston-Salem, N.C., born in 1958 and 1960 respectively. She moved to Rockville, Md. in 1960, where she was employed by the Marriott Corporation and lived there until 1973 when she and the family moved to Annandale, and then later moved to Vienna and Reston, and lived there until 1992, when her husband, Jim, retired from Lincoln Mercury, and they moved to West Palm Beach, Fla. She loved being a Mom, and her greatest achievement in life were her children, and grandson, Chaun Wagner of Jupiter, Fla. She just loved being a homemaker, she loved to cook and bake, she collected recipes, she loved talking on the phone, and staying in touch with old friends and family, and she loved to shop, but her best job in life was always, that she prided herself on being the perfect Mom. She never met a stranger and was a friend to many and a very giving soul, she loved to read her Daily News-Record paper everyday, to stay in touch with the hometown she loved so much. Her passion was decorating the home, and looking after and raising her kids. She was a special lady with a big heart. She will be missed by all who knew her, and her lessons and memories she leaves us with, will last throughout our lifetimes. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lucy Ann Shifflette Chandler and her father, John William Chandler of North Main Street in Harrisonburg, six brothers, Lee Forest, Early, Louie, John William Jr., Raleigh and Harry Chandler; and five sisters, Lula, Hazel, Ethel, Annie and Ressie, as well as her two husbands, Jim and Carl, and her first son, Carl F. Gibson Jr. She was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church in Harrisonburg and St. Johns United Methodist Church of Springfield, and she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Hose Company No. 4 in Harrisonburg. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday from the Chapel of the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home with the Rev. J. Jeffrey Butcher officiating. Chestley D. Gibson of Boonesville, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loved ones on Thursday, August 29, 2013. Born in Boonesville, on December 15, 1924, he was the son of the late Henry T. Gibson and Florence Via Gibson. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Mildred Kathleen Shiflett Gibson who passed away on Wednesday July 31, 2013; three brothers, Junior Bee, Merrill and Jimmy; and a grandson, Brian Tate. He is survived by his four children, Linda Brubeck and her husband, Ray, Martha Tate and her husband, Monte, Eddie Gibson and his wife, Doris, and Lisa Gibson. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jacob, Aaron, John, Travis, Eric, Monte Jr., Rodney, Wesley, Brandon, and their families; 13 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Opal Rouse of North Carolina, Marlene Walton of Boonesville, Victoria Jones of Dinwiddie, and Thelma Smith of Birmingham, Alabama. Chestley proudly served during World War II in the United States Army Company C 252nd Engineer Combat Battalion. Returning home he worked the area orchards, at Bethlehem Steel in Maryland, for Rockingham Electric helping to bring electric power to the mountainous area of both sides of the Blue Ridge Mountains. He later retired from ACME Visible Records in Crozet. Being a devoted husband, father and grandfather he always enjoyed his family, his cattle, gardening and blue grass music. Clarence Gibson, age 85 of Westminster passed away peacefully with family by his side on the Lord's Day, Sunday, January 29, 2017. Born in Tennessee, he was the son of the late Broton and Elizabeth Gibson. He is survived by his wife Betty Jane of 65 years strong and who he always said was the love of his life. Clarence worked at Standard Supplies in Gaithersburg, MD, but retired from Structural Steel in Baltimore, MD. He stayed home for 1 year and got bored and went back to Standard Supplies where he worked until he was 78 years old. Clarence served in the National Guard 121st Engineers for 4 years. Clarence loved the Lord and spent alot of time in His service. He was an ordained Deacon and Chairman. He worked in the Baptist Association in Howard County and The Convention of Maryland. He worked to build the Baptist Retreat "SKY CROFT" in South Mountain in Frederick, MD. He loved gospel music and would travel out of state to hear it especially to Pigeon Forge, TN. In earlier years Clarence raced his Pontiac and won many Eastern State Championships. He loved Mopar Cars and won many awards for his cars. He never met a stranger, was always singing, and playing his guitars and violins. He will be greatly missed by his family, but their loss is heaven's gain. The family wishes to thank all the nurses at Carroll Hospital for their outstanding care of him during his stay there. We also want to especially thank Carroll Hospice for their many visits and phone calls. They were wonderful to him and so compassionate to our family. All our love forever. He was born Feb. 28 1905, in Augusta County, a son of the late Austin Gibson and Ann Fisher Gibson. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Emma Shifflett Gibson; one son, Henry W. Gibson of Waynesboro; two daughters,Virginia Fisher and Ruby Fisher, both of Waynesboro; three brothers, Grant Gibson of Dooms, Steven Gibson of Waynesboro and Cleveland Gibson of Crozet; one sister, Mrs.Carrie Woodson of Greenwood. He is survived by his mother, Mary A. Gibson of Keswick; his loving wife of 43 years, Charlotte S. Gibson; two sons, Curtis E. Gibson Jr. of Barboursville and Clay E. Curtis owned and operated Curtis Gibson Excavating for many years before retiring and was a member of Cedar Grove Church of the Brethren. David Louis Gibson, age 50, of Alexandria, Virginia passed away, with his wife, Michelle and daughter, Miranda by his side, on January 17, 2024 while at Adler Care Center in Aldie, Virginia following an extended illness. David was born on April 3, 1973 in Bethesda, Maryland. He was in specialty retail management for commercial contracting, and was a simple man who enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially hiking and fishing. He was a huge Star Wars fan. He was preceeded in death by a brother, Sherman Scott Gibson. He is survived by wife, Michelle Masters Gibson; his five children, Miranda Smith, Kyra Gibson, Devin Gibson, Zachery Gibson, and Sage Gibson; a sister, Robbin Stinespring and husband Eddie; and a special friend, C. J. Larry. In keeping with his wishes, his body has been cremated. There are no services planned. Lloyd Gibson, February 13, 2006; one grandchild, Karen Gibson; five brothers, Amos, Lucian, Harvey, Cecil, and Melvin Walton; and one sister, Violet Walton McAllister. Miss Florence Dora Gibson, 91, of Pleasant Garden, died Saturday, July 16, 2005. Fred Allen Gibson Sr., 78, of Crozet, Va., passed away at his home on Monday, January 28, 2019. He was the son of the late Jesse and Edith Gibson. Fred was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and retired from the Maintenance Dept. at UVA after 39 years. He served his community for many years as a Volunteer Firefighter with the Crozet Volunteer Fire Department where he was a lifetime member. He was preceded in death by his brother, Homer Gibson; his sister, Betty Gibson Shifflett; as well as several special friends, Merdith Shifflett, V.L. James, Warren James, Bill Mathias, and Campbell Edenton. Fred is survived by the love of his life, Ethel McAllister Gibson, to whom he was married for 57 years. He also leaves behind two sons, Fred Allen Gibson Jr. with his wife, Kim, of Fluvanna, and Jeffrey Scott Gibson with his friend, Robin Bingler, of Crozet; two grandchildren, Kristie Gibson of Raleigh, N.C. and Jessie Walker (Patrick) of Clarksville, Tenn.; three great-grandchildren, Madilynn, Peyton and Macey Walker; as well as one brother-n-law, Charlie Shifflett; and five sisters-n-law, Dorothy Gibson, Betty Ferneyhough (R.D.), Ann Shifflett (James), Madeline Bailey (Kirk), and Mary McAllister. Fred will also be missed by a host of nieces and nephews. Fred was an avid hunter and fisherman. His passion was spending time with his sons and socializing with his buddies in one of his all-time favorite places, which was on the mountain. He had many friends but a select-few were particularly special to Fred, E.B. Hicks, Andy Powley, Lee James, Johnny Patterson, Larry Gentry, Kelly Branch, Billy James, and Rocky Conley. Gladys Gibson Wilson, 95 of Charlottesville, passed away Sunday, May 28, 2006, in a local hospital. She was born on May 22, 1911, in Charlottesville daughter of the late Samuel Lewis and Leebell Shifflett Gibson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Elwood Lee Wilson; a son, Woodrow L. Wilson; her stepmother, Martha Quick; eight sisters, Frances Dorman, Pearl May, Ida Lorraine Campbell, Nora Fletcher, Gertrude Sacre, Magdeline Powell, Bessie Gibson and Neely Gibson; four brothers, Arthur Gibson, Jessie Gibson, Randolph Gibson and Preston Gibson. Mrs. Wilson was a life long member of the Church of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Red Hill; she worked for many years at Ken Johnson Cafeteria as a cashier until it's closing; then worked for the Albemarle County School System as a cook. H. Lloyd Gibson, 88, of Boonesville, died at his residence Monday, February 13, 2006. Born October 1, 1917, he was the son of the late James L. Gibson and Laura Dale Jones. He was preceded in death by three brothers; one sister and one grandchild, Karen Gibson. He is survived by his wife, Effie L. Gibson; two sons, Captain Ed Gibson and his wife, Cynthia, of Charlottesville and A. Herbert S. Gibson Sr., 91, died Saturday, December 8, 2007, at Fair Oaks Hospital in Fairfax. He was the husband of the late Lula Drinkard Gibson, who was a daughter of the late J. Berkley and Margaret Littell Drinkard. Born January 23, 1916, in Charlottesville, he was a son of the late Ernest Lee and Clara Robertson Gibson. Herbert enlisted in the Marines on August 6, 1937, in Macon, Georgia, and served during World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. In 1967, he retired at Quantico. After retirement, he worked another 30 years with the Quantico Base Facilities Department. Mr. Gibson was a Mason and a Past Master of John A. LeJeune Lodge #350 A.F & A.M., Quantico, VA. He is survived by two sons, Herbert S. (known as "Mike") Gibson Jr. and his wife, Joyce, of Smyrna, Georgia, and Kenneth B. Gibson of Lutz, Florida; a sister, Helen Brooks; and a step-sister, Helen DePriest, both of Charlottesville. She was a native of Albemarle County, daughter of the late George and Nancy Shiflett, and was 61 years of age. Surviving are one daughter. Miss Estelle Gibson at home, and four sons, James, Stuart, and Cecil, all of White Hall, and Clyde Gibson, of this city. Mrs. Gibson also leaves one sister Belle Shiflett, of Boonesville. Luther Franklin Gibson of Crozet, son of the late Arthur and Nellie Mary Gibson of Ivy, Virginia, departed this life on Monday, May 19, 2008, at the Martha Jefferson Hospital at the age of 78. Born July 15, 1929, Luther graduated from Meriwether Lewis High School in 1950. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Charlottesville and retired from Acme Visible Records with 40 years of service. He served his country in the Army and National Guard for 15 years. He enjoyed working in his garden and yard. He was preceded in death by his brother, Verley L. Gibson; and two brothers-in-law, Reginald L. Haney and Milton Haney. Mamie Beatrice Gibson Franklin, 94, of Warsaw, formerly of Kilmarnock, passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2007. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, William Marshall Franklin. Born on November 7, 1912, in Charlottesville, Mamie was the daughter of the late Samuel Lewis and Leebell Shifflett Gibson. The sole survivor of 15 children, she was preceded in death by 10 sisters, Laura Sacre, Bessie Gibson, Nora Fletcher, Pearl May, Gertrude Sacre, Nealie Gibson, Gladys Wilson, Mageline Powell, Ida Lorene Campbell, Frances Dorman; four brothers, Arthur, Jessie, Randolph, and Preston Gibson. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and David Brownlee of Warsaw; a grandson, Steve Elliott and his wife, Michelle, of King William; a granddaughter, Ashley N. Brownlee of Mechanicsville; two great-grandchildren, Preston Elliott and Madison Nguyen; many nieces and nephews. "Miss Mamie" was a lifelong member of Kilmarnock Seventh Day Adventist Church, having a very special love for her God, family, church family, friends and the many elderly that she devoted much of her life to caring for. Marvin Christopher “Squirrel” Gibson Jr., 47, died Saturday, July 26, 2008, in Staunton. Mr. Gibson was born Sept. 3, 1960, in Charlottesville, and was the son of Lida Cook of Arkansas and the late Marvin Gibson Sr. He was raised in the Charlottesville area and graduated from Western Albemarle High School. After high school he moved to California and became skilled in carpentry. He returned to the Shenandoah Valley in the late 1980s and had worked various local jobs, mostly construction. In addition to his mother, survivors include a daughter, Brianna Gibson and her mother, Sharon, of Stuarts Draft; a brother, Dwayne Gibson of Staunton; a sister, Tammie Rhea of Arkansas; stepbrother, Richard Johnson of Staunton; two nephews and a niece. Visitation will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at the Coffman Funeral Home in Staunton with a memorial service to follow at 11:30 a.m. His body will be cremated and part of his ashes spread over open land and river and the remaining will be buried at Calvary United Methodist Church Cemetery in Stuarts Draft. Richard Elwood Gibson, of North Garden, passed away at the age of 74, on Tuesday, February 28, 2017. He was preceded in death by his wife, of 54 years Barbara Jean Lilly Gibson; his parents, Elwood Eugene Gibson and Lena Ann McAllister Gibson of Charlottesville; and his son, Richard Elwood Gibson II of Keswick. He is survived by five children, Teresa Ann Deane and husband, Craig of Keswick, Martha Jane "Janie" Beverly and husband, Sammy of Crozet, Michael Eugene Gibson and wife, Donna of Earlysville, Timothy Wayne Gibson Sr. of North Garden, Barbara Jean Powell of North Garden. He is survived by five sisters, Betty Gibson James and husband, V. L of Crozet, Rebecca Gibson Lively and husband, Raymond of Charlottesville, Leura Gibson Crawford of Charlottesville, Peggy Gibson Morris of Scottsville, and Dorothy Gibson Lively and husband, Gene of Charlottesville; two brothers, James Gibson and wife, Evelyn of Charlottesville, and Cecil Gibson of Charlottesville. He is survived by 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He is survived by many nieces, nephews, friends, and his beloved dog, Lilly. Elwood worked at Monticello Dairy for nineteen years, Albemarle County school system for ten years, emergency department at University of Virginia Medical Center for ten years, farm manager at the Hamilton's for ten years. He then retired to then enjoy his life at home, where he spent a lot of time with family, traveling, keeping a garden, volunteering at local food banks and enjoying fellowship at local churches weekly. Elwood was a well-liked man; he enjoyed joking around with friends and family at gatherings, singing, dancing and playing the guitar, he was an avid Elvis fan; he had a contagious laugh. He was a very active man, and spent a lot of time outdoors. Robert Burton "Bobby" Gibson, 81, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 18, 2018, after a brief illness. Bobby was born in Covington, Virginia; a son of the late Thomas S. Gibson and Mary E. Barnett, and was raised by his mother and stepfather, the late Roy Toman. Bobby was the youngest of five siblings and was preceded in death by two brothers, Calvin and Elwood; and two sisters, Charlotte and Betty. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Doris S. Gibson; their son, Michael "Mike" Gibson (Diane); his grandson, Brenden Gibson (Sarah); and two great grandsons, Andrew and Aaron Gibson. Bobby also leaves behind Doris' brothers and sister and their spouses, all of whom were loving, supportive and in many ways, closer to him than his own family. He retired from ConAgra (Morton, Del Monte, RJ Reynolds) after 44 years of service. He was lifetime member of the Crozet Volunteer Fire Department, the Crozet Loyal Order of Moose, the Batesville Sportsman Club and Crozet Baptist Church. A kind, fair, generous and loving man, there was little Bobby enjoyed more than being surrounded by family and friends, cooking on the grill and sharing stories of the past. In their earlier years Bobby and Doris enjoyed camping anywhere they could pull their camper; a favorite being Myrtle Beach, and dancing anytime the opportunity presented itself. Roger Lee Gibson, 74, of Crozet, passed away peacefully at home on June 17, 2020. He was born on August 19, 1945 to Ralph Edgar and Mary Virginia Gibson in Charlottesville Virginia. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Evelyn Shifflett Gibson of 45 years. He was well known in the community as a mechanic and proprietor of Fry's Spring Exxon and Ivy Exxon with his brother Steve. He loved watching NASCAR Racing and in his earlier years you could find him racing dirt track at Eastside Speedway. Roger served in the U.S. Army from 1968 1970. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed by many along with his pet bird Buddy. He is survived by his son, Craig Gibson and his wife, Amy, of Keswick; his daughter, Lisa Shifflett of Crozet; mother-in-law, Genevieve Shifflett of Crozet; three grandchildren, Kirstie Sexton of Ruckersville, and Andrew and Amaya Gibson of Keswick; and siblings, Steve Gibson, Judy Hinegardner, Nancy Williams and David Lee Dunn. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth L. Gibson Jr.; and a sister, Gertrude Hunt. She is survived by two daughters, Sharon K. Sandy A. "Bo" Gibson Jr., 92, of Crozet, died Monday, April 22, 2002, in a Local nursing home. Born April 12, 1910, in Albemarle County, he was the son of the late Sandy A. Gibson Sr. and Hardy Brown Gibson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Gibson; one daughter, Carolyn Gibson; three sisters, Mazie Sprouse, Margaret Mawyer and Katie Fisher; three brothers, Ross Gibson, Kenneth Gibson and Curtis Gibson; and one granddaughter, Debbie Burgess. Mr. Gibson retired as a cabinet maker and restorer of antiques. He was a member of Mount Ed Baptist Church. He is survived by a stepdaughter, Ruby "Jackie" Viar of Crozet; two sisters, Virginia Ray and Martha Johnson, both of Crozet; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and seventeen great-great-grandchildren. Stuart Henry Gibson Sr., 58, of Batesville died Friday in a Charlottesville hospital. A native of Albemarle, he was the son of the late Thomas L. and Idea Shifflett Gibson. Mr. Gibson was a retired employee of the Virginia Department of Highways and a member of Mt. Moriah Methodist Church in Whitehall. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Arlene Dunnivan of Batesville, two sons. Ralph L. Gibson of White Hall and Stuart H, Gibson, Jr., of Crozet; a sister. Mrs. Kenneth Blake of Charlottesville; three brothers, Clyde A. Gibson of Charlottesville, James L. Gibson of North Garden and Cecil A. Gibson of Crozet; and two grandchildren. Mrs. Susie Shiflet, wife of L. A. Shiflet died Friday at the home of her brother at Ivy after an extended illness. She is survived by her husband and eight children; Mrs. Edith Clements of Covington; Alice Shifflet of Ivy; Mrs. Carrie Clovella of this city; Philip and Stonewall Shifflet of Buena Vista; Albert Shifflet of Roanoke; Ray and Eddie Shifflet of Ivy. Mrs. Shifflet also leaves her mother, six brothers and two sisters; A. B. and Phillip O. Gibson, of Ivy; J. W. Gibson of Covington; A. B. Gibson of Washington, D.C.; J. M. Gibson of Schuyler; Mrs. Emily Reynolds of Richmond and Mrs. Eunice Sprouse of Miller School. The services were held Saturday afternoon at 4 O'clock from St. John's Chapel. The interment was in the family section of the church cemetery.

Thelma Williams Gibson, 81, of Gordonsville, died on Tuesday, April 2, 2019, at The Laurels in Charlottesville. Born on October 8, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Herman Kannie Williams and Lilly Knight Williams. She was the wife of the late James Wilton Gibson. Mrs. Gibson was also preceded in death by a son, Carroll Wayne Gibson; and four brothers, Thurman Williams, Norman Williams, Charles Williams, and James Williams. She is survived by three daughters, Glenda G. Etheridge and husband, Steven, of Ruckersville, Patricia G. Turner and husband, Charles, of Madison, and Karen Piercy and husband, Michael, of Rochelle; three sons, Bruce Gibson and wife, Candace, of Ruckersville, Keith Gibson and wife, Lynn, of Louisa, and Shawn Gibson and wife, Jennifer, of Stanardsville; a daughter-in-law, Karen Gibson of Gordonsville; one sister, Mattie Williams of Barboursville, 14 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2019, at Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Gordonsville, with Pastor Terry Jewell officiating. Interment will follow at Maplewood Cemetery. Timothy "Tim" Lee Gibson, 59, of Ruckersville, Virginia passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, July 23, 2020. Tim was born on December 16, 1960, in Charlottesville, VA. He is the son of the late Morton E. Gibson and Ethel M. (Roach) Gibson, and the seventh of eight children. Tim attended William Monroe High School and graduated in 1979. Tim was self-employed and had a knack for roofing and painting. In addition to his parents he was proceeded in death by his sisters, Diane Knight and Norma Gibson; and his loving friend Stanley "Mac" Shifflett. He is survived by his partner of 25 years, Ruth K. Ramsey; two daughters, Sara-Elizabeth P. Gibson and Anne-Marie M. Gibson; brothers, Glen (Gina) Gibson and Mike (Cecelia) Gibson; sisters, Kay (Kenneth) Lamm, June (Henry) Horner and Stella Gibson; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Tim was a friend to all, and he knew no stranger. His heart for others showed in his actions, as he had a generous spirit. His door was always open, and he would go out of his way to lend a hand to those in need. He will be remembered for his lighthearted personality and his ability to make everyone laugh. He always had a joke to share or a trick up his sleeve. He enjoyed spending time outdoors fishing, hunting, and driving through the backroads of Greene County. He liked watching football, basketball, classic shows, and movies in his down time. Tim had a love for music and was well known for his dance moves. He always said his greatest accomplishment in life was being a father to his two daughters. His presence will be missed on this earth, but he will be remembered by those who love and know him. Verley Lawrence Gibson, Sr., son of the late Arthur and Nellie Gibson of Ivy, died Friday, May 7, 2004, at his home in Lady Lake, Fla., at the age of 70. Born Jan. 28, 1934, Verley attended Meriwether Lewis School and Miller School of Albemarle. He was a member of St. John, the Baptist, Episcopal Church in Ivy and served as the Chairman of the Cemetery Committee. He retired from the U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer. After the Navy, Verley retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a letter carrier in Charlottesville's Belmont community. He moved to Faber and in 1997. moved to Florida where he could play golf every day. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Peggy Dempster Gibson; a son, Verley Lawrence Gibson Jr. and his wife, Janet, and their daughter, Verley's only granddaughter, Rachel, of Mt. Holly, N.C.; and a daughter, Kelly Sue Gibson of Florida. He leaves behind two brothers and two sisters, Nellie Louise Haney and the late Milton Haney of Charlottesville, William "Bill" Gibson and his wife, Alma, of Crozet, Luther Gibson and his wife, Nancy, of Crozet and Frances Gibson Loose and her husband, Hermann, of Keswick; as well as nieces, Brenda, Terri, Tracy, Sherri, Mary and Frieda; nephews, Michael, David, Donald and Dennis and their families. Virgie Mary Kirby Gibson, 93, of Keswick, died June 8, 1999, at her residence. Born Feb. 27, 1906, in Greene County, she was the daughter of the late Rodger Benjamin and Louise Crawford Kirby and was the wife of the late Lawrence Anderson Gibson. She was a member of Preddy's Creek Baptist Church in Stony Point. Mrs. Gibson is survived by six daughters, Joice Payne, Mary Lee Wood, Evelyn Sipe, Frances Wood and Gladys Durham, all of Keswick and Alice Breeden of Greenville, S. C.; three sons, Bernard Gibson and Rogers Gibson, both of Keswick; 26 grandchildren and 27 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband. Mrs. Gibson was preceded in death by two sons, Reasel Gibson and Cecil Gibson. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Preddy's Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. Arthur H. GROTTOES -- Virginia Mary Wease Gibson, 87, died Tuesday, April 11, 2006, at the Augusta Medical Center in Fishersville. Mrs. Gibson was born Sept. 16, 1918, in Rockingham County, daughter of the late John and Nellie Wease. She was a member of the United Methodist Church. She was employed at Swift and Company in Harrisonburg and did foster care for Rockingham Social Services for many years. For 10 years, she lived with her granddaughter, Mary Hemp, who was her caregiver. Surviving are two sons, Richard McDonaldson of Fulks Run and Jerry McDonaldson of Waynesboro; two daughters, Mable Hensley of Grottoes and Shirley Comer of Harrisonburg; two granddaughter raised in the home like daughters, Mary Hemp and Karen Sites of Grottoes; two sisters, Norma Jean Grim of West Virginia and Elizabeth Rush of Edinburg; 44 grandchildren; 70 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. The funeral was conducted Saturday, April 15, at Kyger Funeral Home, Elkton, by Pastor Wayne Comer. Burial was in Mount Grove Cemetery, Penn Laird.

Gibson and Ella Woodson Gibson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Murrel Fisher Gibson; eight brothers, Hubbard, Grover, Clifton, Cleveland, Steven, Lowell, Grant, and Clarence Gibson; and one sister, Cary Woodson. He is survived by four brothers, Lorenzo Gibson of Louisa, Robert Gibson of Keene, Tom Johnson Jr., and Charles Johnson of Staunton; three sisters; Cora Fisher of Batesville, Ella Mae Johnson of Nelson County, and Agnes Shifflett of Staunton; a special cousin, Lorena Hutchinson; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Gibson spent his entire life in the Greenwood-Crozet community. The family expresses special thanks to the staff of the University of Virginia Medical Center and to the Hospice of the Piedmont. William Harold Gibson, 69, of Fishersville, Va. went to be with the Lord on January 21, 2020 at Augusta Health Center. He was born October 17, 1950 in Gordonsville, Va. He was the son of the late Allen and Caroline Gibson. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Mervan Gibson of Gordonsville. Harold retired from Luck Stone. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, gardening, muscle cars and good food. Harold is survived by his wife, Carolyn Martin Gibson of Fishersville; a daughter, Kerrie Gibson; a granddaughter, Haley Hall; a grandson, Nate Gibson; a great-granddaughter, Genesis, all of Charlottesville. He is also survived by two sisters, Joyce G. Hurt and Brenda G. Lamb and a brother Robert L. Gibson, all of Gordonsville. He is also survived by two stepdaughters, Debra Hunt of Stuarts Draft and Terri Davis, of Charlottesville. William L. “Brownie” Gibson, 79, of Crozet, died Tuesday, June 10, 1997, in the Veteran’s Care Center, Roanoke. Born in Albemarle County, Feb. 25, 1918, he was a son of the late Alfonso and Cornelia Sprouse Gibson. Mr. Gibson retired from B.F.I. after many years of service. He served his county during World War II with the U.S. Army. Survivors include his sister, Lovelle Powell of Norfolk; and many nieces, nephews and other family members. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Morton, Aubrey, Herbert and Adam Lee Gibson; four sisters, Ruby Sprouse, Cora Sprouse, Opal Pace and Clara Schumaker.
