GEORGE CLEVELAND ARMENTROUT
George Cleveland Armentrout, 71, of Hampton died Nov. 28,1990, at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News. A son of the late George Kennedy and Sarah Wise Armentrout, he was born Sept. 20, 1919, in Keezletown. He lived in Hampton for 24 years. Mr. Armentrout was a member of Company C, 190th Infantry in Harrisonburg and an Army veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Legion of Merit and Purple Heart. He was a member of Keezletown United Methodist Church, Mended Hearts of Hampton and Fort Monroe Retired Council in Hampton. On July 22, 1942, he married the former Lillian Corinne Webster, who survives. Other survivors are two sons, Gary N. Armentrout, with the U.S. Army in Fort Bragg, N.C., and Dana L. Armentrout of Harrisonburg; three brothers, Harry Armentrout, Charles "Bill" Armentrout and Norman "Ozzie" Armentrout, all of Harrisonburg; one sister, Edna Harrison of Harrisonburg; and one grandchild. The Rev. Don Hawks will conduct funerals at 7 p.m. today at Lawrence B. Wood Funeral Home in Hampton and 1 p.m. Saturday at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home. Burial will be in Woodbine Cemetery with full military honors.

GEORGE KENNY ARMENTROUT
George Kenny (Dave) Armentrout, 72, a lifelong and popular resident of Keezletown, died unexpectedly at 1:30 a. m. Sunday at his home in Keezletown. Mr. Armentrout had suffered a heart attack several months ago but had apparently greatly recovered. He was stricken Saturday night after retiring. A son of the late George C. and Virginia Earman Armentrout, he was born Aug. 9, 1889 at Keezletown where he spent practically his entire life. He devoted number of years of his life to farming and later was employed by J. O. Stickley and Son for 17 years. He was a member of the Keezletown Methodist Church. On Dec. 1, 1908 he married Miss Sarah Catherine Wise who survives him. Besides his wife, he is survived by six children, Harry D. Armentrout, of Harrisonburg; Mrs. Edna V. Harrison, of Keezletown; Lt. Col. George C. Armentrout, Cedar Falls, Iowa; James H. Armentrout, Harrisonburg Rt. 2; Norman F. Armentrout, of Shenandoah; and Charles W. Armentrout, at home; 12 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one brother, O. D. Armentrout, of Keezletown; and four sisters, Mrs. Lena Tutwiler, Mrs. Sada Knicley, and Mrs. Mary Taylor, all of Harrisonburg; and Mrs. Effie Saunders, of High Point, N. C. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 Wednesday from the Keezletown Methodist Church. The pastor, the Rev. Warren Reeves will conduct the services assisted by Dr. O. B. Michael. Burial will be in the Keezletown Cemetery. The body is at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home where it will remain until 4:00 Tuesday when it will be taken to his late home. His body will be moved to the church at 12:30 Wednesday. Relatives will meet at his late home at 1:45 Wednesday for a brief service. Active pallbearers will be W C. Echard, Jr.; J. Rush Coffman, Lewis R. Wright, A. D. Wise, Sr., Harold C. Simmers, Maynard T. Armentrout, Norris Webster, and James W. Good. Honorary pallbearers will be Lloyd Blose, W. J. Lance, W. C. Echard, Sr.; Marvin W. Crowe, Samuel B. Flagg, Owen C. Armentrout, Wade T. Huffman, Lester Webster, Turner Boyers, and the employees of J. O. Stickley and Son.

HARRY DILLMON ARMENTROUT
The funeral for Harry Dillmon Armentrout, 83, of Route 1, Penn Laird, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Harrisonburg Chapel of the Kyger & Trobaugh Funeral Home. The Rev.. Don Hawks will conduct the service. Burial will be in the Keezletown Cemetery. Mr. Armentrout died Nov. 25, 1993, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, where he had been a patient for the past three weeks. He was born March 3, 1910, in Keezletown and was a son of the late George Kennedy and Sarah Wise Armentrout. He was a farmer and had worked for the Blose family for a number of years. He was also an avid county league baseball fan and had been given a number of the trophies won by the Linville team. On March 12, 1932, he married the former Elizabeth Alice Nichols, who died in 1991. Surviving are two daughters, Mary Ellen Back of Penn Laird and Phyllis Jean Mitchell of Stafford; two brothers, Norman Armentrout of Harrisonburg and Charles "Bill" Armentrout of Keezletown; one sister, Edna Harrison of Keezletown; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

JAMES HENRY ARMENTROUT
James Henry "John" Armentrout, 64, of Route 2, Harrisonburg died Monday at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. Mr. Armentrout had been in poor health for several years. He was born Dec. 7, 1924, at Keezletown and was a son of the late George K. and Sarah Catherine Wise Armentrout. Mr. Armentrout was a self employed stonemason and bricklayer and had lived in the Gravels community north of Harrisonburg for the past 31 years. He was a member of the Linville United Methodist Church, where he had held numerous offices, taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. He also played in the Rockingham County Baseball League for many years and had served overseas during World War II. On March 1, 1947, he married the former Rubie Williams, who survives. Also surviving are two children, Sherry Smith of Broadway and Terry Scott Armentrout of Fredericksburg; four brothers, Harry Armentrout of Penn Laird, George Armentrout of Hampton, Norman Armentrout of Harrisonburg and William Armentrout of Keezletown; a sister, Edna Harrison of Keezletown; and two grandsons. A memorial service will be conducted 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Keezletown United Methodist Church by the Revs. Paul Beighley and Elaine Blubaugh. A private graveside service will be held in the Keezletown Cemetery earlier in the day. The body is at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home, where friends may call, but the family will receive friends at the Armentrout home.

JUDY ARMENTROUT HILL

Judy Armentrout Hill, age 66, of Keezletown, passed away on September 2, 2015, following an extended illness. She was born in Harrisonburg on December 18, 1948 and was a daughter of Calvin S. Armentrout and the late Bonnie Lou Armentrout. Judy graduated from Montevideo High School and after many years she retired from R.R. Donnelley. She lived her entire life on Happy Valley Road in Keezletown and was a member of Keezletown United Methodist Church. Judy enjoyed attending craft shows along with her father and sister and she had a love for pets and dedication to work. Surviving in addition to her father are her husband of 50 years, William "Bill" Hill; three daughters, Brookie Hill and partner, Lysia Buhler, Amy Anthony and husband, Rocky and Billie Jo Clem; her sister, Donna Shifflett and husband, John; two grandchildren, Bryce Anthony and Emma Anthony and numerous nieces and nephews. LURTY EDWARD ARMENTROUT
Lurty Edward Armentrout, 78, of 632 N. Liberty St. Harrisonburg died Wednesday night at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. Mr. Armentrout had been ill for 18 months and had been a patient at the hospital since Monday. He was born Sept. 20. 1904, in Keezletown and was a son of the late Clarence Hunter and Ottie Grandle Armentrout. Mr. Armentrout lived his entire life in the Keezletown and Harrisonburg areas and worked more than 40 years for Nielsen Construction Co. On Aug. 17, 1929, he married the former Thelma Roadcap, who died Sept. 29, 1978. Surviving are two sisters, Edith Armentrout and Georgia Dove, both of Harrisonburg; and a brother, C. Lloyd Armentrout of Rt. 2, Harrisonburg. A graveside service will be conducted 1:30 p.m. Friday at Rest Raven Memorial Gardens by the Rev. L. C. Armentrout. The body is at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home, where friends may call. The family will receive friends at the home of his brother.

PHYLLIS JEAN ARMENTROUT MITCHELL
Phyllis Jean Mitchell, 76, of Nichols, S.C., passed away, Friday, August 10, 2018 at McLeod Seacoast Hospital, surrounded by her family. She was born in January 22, 1942, in Harrisonburg, Va., a daughter of the late Harry and Kitty Armentrout. On January 19, 1960 she married Sandy William Mitchell. She had worked in the cafeteria at Stafford County Public Schools for many years. Phyllis was a loving mom and grandmother, who loved to spend her time outdoors, working in her flowers, going to the beach and boating. She also enjoyed making beautiful flower arrangements, shopping and being crafty. She lovingly took care of her pets Wally, Katie, Willie, Maria and Toby but above all, she cherished time spent with her family. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Pamela Allen. She is survived by two sons, Sandy W. Mitchell Jr. and wife, Susan and Terry Wilmer Mitchell, all of Nichols; four granddaughters, Melissa Stump, Crystal Shortridge, LeeAnn Allen and April Allen; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister Mary Ellen Armentrout of Penn Laird. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, August 16, 2018 at Obaugh Funeral Home with the Rev. Chilton McPheeters, officiating. Burial will follow in Head Waters Cemetery.

SARAH C. WISE ARMENTROUT
The funeral for Sarah C. Armentrout, 90, of Keezletown will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday at Keezletown United Methodist Church by the Rev. Shannon W. Swortzel and Ron Smith. Burial will be in Keezletown Cemetery. Mrs. Armentrout died Tuesday evening at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient one month. She had been ill for a year and suffered a stroke Feb. 5. Mrs. Armentrout was born March 21, 1889 at Keezletown and was a daughter of the late Henry Adam and Mary Ann Shifflett Wise. She was a member of Keezletown United Methodist Church. On Dec. 1, 1908, she married George Kenny "Dave" Armentrout, who died April 1, 1962. Surviving are a daughter, Edna V. Harrison of Keezletown; five sons, Harry D. Armentrout of Rt. 1, Penn Laird, George C. Armentrout of Hampton, James H. "John" Armentrout of Rt. 2, Harrisonburg, Norman F. Armentrout of Rt. 6, Harrisonburg and Charles W. "Bill" Armentrout of Keezletown; a sister, Lucy Showalter of Edom; seven grandchildren; five step grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grand child. The body is at the Armentrout home where friends may call.

WILLIAM HARVEY ARMENTROUT
Funeral services for William Harvey Armentrout, 68, of 205 Campbell St., will be conducted at 2 p. m. Friday in the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel with the Rev. Charles L. Delaney Jr., in charge. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery. He died at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in a local hospital after an extended illness. Born Nov. 4, 1894, he was the son of the late George and Josephine Shifflette Armentrout. He was a retired painter and a member of the First Christian Church in Beckley. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Florence McTavish Armentrout; two sons. James E., stationed with the Air Force in North Africa. and William E., of Beckley; and five grandchildren. The body will remain at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home.
