Collin Ray Jacobs, cherished child of Kevin and Stephanie Shifflett Jacobs of
Damon, passed away Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009, surrounded by his loving family and
will be dearly missed and loved. Collin is survived by his loving parents;
brothers, Stephen Lee and Matthew Ian; sisters, Star Nicole and Brieanna Marie;
grandparents: Tim Hutson, Linda Hutson, Ronnie and Susan Dannhaus, and Wayne
Shifflett; great-grandparents: Mary Shifflett, Reed and Dorothy Neddermeyer;
step-grandmother, Paula Jacobs; along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He
is preceded in death by grandfather, Warren Jacobs; great-grandparents: Charlsie
and Eileen Jacobs, Norman Shifflett, Raymond Goode, and C. W. and Evelyn
Wilbanks; uncle, Stephen Wayne Jacobs; and cousin, Michelle Jacobs. Visitation
will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29 at Baker Funeral Home in West
Columbia. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, at Baker
Funeral Home in West Columbia, with Pastor David Foudray officiating. Burial
will follow at Yelderman Cemetery in Damon. Pallbearers will be Randy Pitz,

BARBARA GAIL JARRELL
Barbara Gale Jarrell, 63, of Pratts died on Friday, May 6, 2011, at the
University of Virginia Medical Center. She was born on April 11, 1948, in
Charlottesville, the daughter of the late Grover Cleveland Payton. She was also
preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Jarrell; and a brother-in-law,
Jerry Kolar. She is survived by her mother, Inez Samuels Payton of Pratts; one
son, Brian Payton of Madison; two sisters, Shirley Kolar of Maryland; and
Geraldine Harvey and her husband, Robert, of Shelby. Funeral services will be
held 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Madison with
interment at Madison Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Pratts. The family will
receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, May 9, 2011, at the funeral Home.

ERNEST J. JARRELS
Ernest J. Jarrels, 84, of Harrisonburg died of an apparent heart attack Sunday
afternoon. He was stricken at his home and was dead on arrival at Rockingham
Memorial Hospital. Mr. Jarrels was born Aug. 31, 1888 east of Harrisonburg and
was a son of the late John J. and Johanna Miller Jarrels. He was a farmer. On
June 21, 1911, he married Sadie Shiflett, who survives. Also surviving are an
adopted daughter, Mrs. Eva Rodgers of Harrisonburg; a granddaughter he helped
rear, Mrs. Lester Bennett of Falls Church; a brother, P. L. Jarrels of
Baltimore, and two-great-granddaughters. The funeral will be conducted 4 p.m.
Wednesday at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home by the Rev. Joseph Sefcik.
Burial will be in Woodbine Cemetery. Relatives will meet 3:40 p.m. Wednesday at
the Jarrels home on East Market Street. Mrs. Jarrels requests that, since she is
the only person at home, food not be brought.

Service for A.S. "Jeep" Jenkins,
80, of Paradise was Friday, Jan. 25, at Pleasant View Baptist Church. The Revs.
Joey Vick and M. L. Milton officiated. Burial followed at West Bridgeport
Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bud Bishop, Ben Taylor, Levi Taylor, Clayton Green,
Mike Jenkins and Tommy Weatherly. Jenkins died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, in
Decatur. Born March 30, 1921, in Chico, he was a lifetime resident of Wise
County and was the retired owner of Jenkins Scrap Metal. He was a U.S. Army
veteran who served in World War II. He was a former Bridgeport City Councilman.
He was also a member of the Pleasant View Baptist Church and a member of the
International Order of Odd Fellows. He was preceded in death by his parents,
Sidney and Charlottie Jenkins; his wife, Caroline in 1975; his brother, Wesley
and sisters Vera Mae Boring and Hazel Sheffield. He is survived by three sons,
Albert "Bubba" Jenkins and wife Charlsa of Odessa, Joe Jenkins and wife Carol of
Paradise and David Jenkins and wife Tanya, also of Paradise; two daughters,
Lindsey Smith and husband Ronnie of Bridgeport and Charlotte Chapman and husband
Paul of Paradise; three brothers, H.M. Jenkins, E.E. "Red" Jenkins and E.B. "Bo"
Jenkins; a sister, Ruth Narramore; 12 grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren.

Fay Boring and Hazel Sheffield. He is survived by a son, Mike Jenkins of
Paradise; grandchildren, Jana Worley and husband Lee of Boyd, and Matt Jenkins

Narramore, 91, passed away peacefully March 27, 2019, at her home in Decatur,
Texas. Visitation will be Saturday, March 30, 2019, 1 hour prior to service at
Hawkins Funeral Home Decatur, Texas. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m.
Saturday,March 30, 2019, at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur. Interment will
follow at West Bridgeport (Old Town or West Side) Cemetery, Bridgeport, Texas.
Ruth was born in Chico, Texas, to Oscar S. and Charlotte (Owen) Jenkins May 25,
1927. She attended school in Bridgeport, was active in 4-H, and attended North
Central Texas College and Weatherford College. Ruth worked at the Bridgeport
Hospital as a respiratory therapist. She also worked at Lorch-Westway and Poco
Graphite in Decatur. Myrtle Ruth Narramore led a meaningful life of service to
God, her family and her community. As a member of the DAR, she served as regent
and chaplain. She was active in the DAV Auxilliary and VFW Auxillary. In later
years, she volunteered at the Veterans Hospital. She was a member of First
Baptist Church of Decatur. Baptized at Westside Baptist Church of Bridgeport as
a young girl, she attended church for over eighty years. Some of her favorite
memories were of working in Vacation Bible School. She was a skilled seamstress,
quilter, and upholsterer for family and friends. She is fondly remembered by
many for creating "coats of many colors". Always busy, she crafted quilts and
crochet gifts that her family still treasures. Everyone looked forward to being
in her kitchen for her stories, compassionate listening, and delicious pies.
Ruth was compassionate and full of love for others. She was kind and encouraging
to everyone, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was
generous in many ways, including teaching practical life skills to children. She
inspired her family to honor their ancestors and to stand up for rightly living.
She leaves a legacy of strong moral character and faithful devotion to God and
family. Preceding her in death are her parents, sisters Vera Boring and Hazel
Sheffield, brothers Wesley, H.M, Albert, and Benjamin, husbands John Winans,
Lindell Frazier and Billy Narramore, and her son Daniel Winans. She is survived
by her brother, Edgar Jenkins, her daughter, Ruth Ann Taylor, six grandchildren,
ten great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and numerous nieces and

Wesley Jenkins, who was born February 17, 1914, died
June 7, 1961. He had lived in and around Bridgeport all his life and had been a
member of the Assembly of God Church since June of 1951. Mr. Jenkins had worked
at the Southwest Stone Co. for 15 years. He is survived by his wife, Mary A.
Jenkins; two daughters -- Lila Marie Jenkins and Atza Manuel; his mother, Lottie
Jenkins; four brothers -- H. M. Edgar, Albert, and Benny, all of Bridgeport;
three sisters -- Mrs. E. W. Boring of Snowflake, Arizona, Mrs. Bill Bishop of
Duncan Oklahoma, and Mrs. J. W. Werinans of Fort Worth. Hawkins Funeral home

Clifford Allen Jessee, 81, of Crozet, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 19, 2014. He was born on
June 18, 1932, in Honaker, Virginia, to the late Henry and Flora Jessee. He was preceded in death by his wife,
Estella Ann Via Jessee of 54 years; a son, Darrell Allen Jessee; two grandsons, Isaiah John Jessee and Steven
Parker Rose; one brother, J. C. Jessee of Lebanon, Virginia; and brother-in-law, George Via of Woodbridge,
Virginia. He is survived by two daughters, Darlene Jones and husband Blake of Crimora, Virginia, and Dana
Layne and husband, Dave, of Charlottesville, Virginia; one son, Dwayne Jessee and wife, Pam, of Free Union,
Virginia. He had nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He had one brother, Jack Jessee and wife,
Jean, of Narrows, Virginia; two sisters, Carolyn Armstrong of Kingsport, Tennessee, and Henrietha Bratanov and
husband, Steven, of Honaker, Virginia. He had 13 nieces and nephews; and two brothers-in-law, Julian Via and
wife, Betty, of Grottoes, Virginia, and Charles Via and wife, Joann of Charlottesville, Virginia. He was a
member of Crozet Baptist Church in Crozet, Virginia. A member of the Masonic Lodge in Crozet, Virginia.
Clifford was a member of the King Solomon's Lodge #194 AF & AM for over 55 years. His title was P.D.D.G.M. and
when another mason addresses him, he was referred to as "Right Worshipful." A member of Amarath of Crozet,
Virginia, and Eastern Star of Waynesboro, Virginia. He was retired from the United States Postal Service with
32 years of service. He also served in the United States Air Force and in the Korean War. His hobbies were
camping, woodworking, reading, gardening. Family received friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23,
2014, at the Anderson Funeral Home of Crozet. A funeral service will be held at the Crozet Baptist Church at 2
p.m. on Thursday, April 24, 2014. Interment will follow at Rockgate Cemetery with the Reverend David Collyer

Ann Via Jessee, 78, of Crozet, died on Saturday, June 29, 2013, at the Hospice House in Charlottesville,
Virginia. She was born on August 26, 1934, to the late Joseph and Golde Via. She was preceded in death by one
son, Darrell Jessee; a sister, Colleen Via; a brother, George Via; and two grandsons, Isaiah Jessee and Parker
Rose. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Clifford A. Jessee of Crozet; two daughters, Darlene Jones
and her husband, Blake, of Crimora, and Dana Layne and her husband, Dave, of Crozet; one son, Dwayne Jessee

Bernice Johnson, age 93, of Atlanta, Texas, died Monday, February 13, 2012 in a
Atlanta, Texas Hospital. Bernice was born November 15, 1918 in Harrisonburg,
Virginia to Manhatten Rosenfelt Ney and Beatrice Shipplett Ney. Bernice attended
Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tennessee. She was a homemaker and an
artist. She was retired from the Food Services Department of First Baptist
Church, Houston, Texas, a member of First Baptist Church, Atlanta, Texas, where
she was a faithful member of the Faith Sunday School Class. In all of the
churches that she was involved in during her adult life she willingly served
where ever she was needed. Bernice was preceded in death by her husband of 71
years, Erwin C. Johnson, Sr., and her parents Manhatten Rosenfelt Ney and
Beatrice Shipplett Ney. She is survived by two sons; E. Crawford Johnson, Jr.
and wife Karen of Fort Worth, Texas, Carl Johnson and wife Rene of Choctaw,
Oklahoma; two daughters, Kathy Wommack and husband Joe of Atlanta, Texas, Katie
Jarrett and husband Dave of Atlanta, Texas; sister in law, Allie Johnson of
Cheyenne, Wyoming; eight Grandchildren and their spouses, eighteen Great

Chris Johnson, 35, of Charlottesville, passed away on Wednesday, December 26,
2012. He was born on March 14, 1977 in Albemarle County, Virginia, the grandson
of Charlie and Yoshiko "Linda" Johnson of Keene. Chris is survived by his wife,
Monica Shiflett Johnson; two sons, Scott Michael Johnson and Samuel Parker
Johnson; parents, Ruth Johnson Ray, and Wayne Morris and his wife Arlene;
siblings, Larry, Tony, and Tonya; his favorite uncle, Charles Michael Johnson;
his in-laws, Lawrence and Betty Shiflett; his best friend, Charlie Bryant and
his wife, Lisa; numerous extended family members; and countless other friends.
Chris was a well respected auto mechanic who enjoyed dirt bike riding, cars,
music, and the outdoors. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed. A
funeral service will be conducted at 11 am. on Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at
Chestnut Grove Baptist Church in Earlysville, Virginia, with the Reverend Lance
King officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Prize Hill Cemetery in
Boonesville, Virginia. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. on

EARL LLOYD JOHNSON
JOHNSON, Earl Lloyd age 82, of Middletown, died Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at the
Hospice of Butler and Warren Counties. He was born May 1, 1929 in Port William,
Ohio the son of Leslie Earl Johnson and Golda Mae (Faulkner) Johnson. Earl was a
veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict. He lived most of
his life in Clinton County, Ohio, and worked as a heavy equipment operator and
mechanic for many years. He is survived by one sister, Mary Johnson Fowler of
Jamestown, Ohio; two stepsons, Donald and David Burchett both of Indianapolis,
Indiana; three step grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was
preceded in death by his wife, Evangeline (Shifflett) Johnson in December, 2009,
and his parents. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 PM Friday at the
Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM
Saturday, crypt side at the Washington Park East Cemetery Mausoleum,
Indianapolis, Indiana, with entombment immediately following the service.

Darrell Waltzy Jones Jr.,46, of Westminster, died suddenly on Saturday April 17, 2004,
while fishing with friends in Queen Anne's County. He was the husband of Carol
M. Jones. Born Feb. 6, 1958 in Baltimore, He was the son of Darrell W. Jones Sr.
and Joyce A. Fauber Jones of Westminster. He was employed with Hagan's Tree and
Stump removal as a heavy equipment engineer. He graduated from Westminster High
School in 1975. He was a member of Bixler United Methodist Church and the
Littlestown Eagles Aerie 2226. He loved NASCAR racing and was a #1 FAN OF Dale
Earnhardt Sr. and love four wheeling in W. Virginia. Surviving besides his
parents and wife are a son Christopher D. Jones of Florida, daughters Tiffany K.
Niebauer of Harpers Ferry W.Va, and Stephanie M. Walker of Westminster, a sister
and brother-in-law Kimberly "Kimmy" and Rick Cook of Hanover, a brother and
sister-in-law Ronald L. Jones and Debra Jones of Westminster, His grandmother,
Lena Babington of Baltimore, and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death
by a brother Craig B. Jones and grandparents, Ronald F. Babington, Harry W.
Fauber, Mabel Gilkey and Kenneth Jones. Funeral services will be held 11 am

Robert Lester Jones, age 78, of Wilmington, passed away on Christmas Day,
December 25, 2011. Bob was born in Northeast, MD on January 1, 1933 to the late
Jennie L. and William M. Jones. Bob attended Brown Vocational High School in
Wilmington when at the young age of 17, he joined the United States Marine Corps
and proudly served his country during the Korean War. He was the recipient of 2
Purple Heart medals. After the war, he worked as a carpenter and had a lengthy
career as a Scale Model Engineer with Display Arts, Hercules, United Engineers,
Rohm & Haas and Raytheon. He was predeceased by his wife of 45 years, Theresa
(Toner) Jones, son Dennis R. Jones and brother William M. Jones, Jr. Survivors
include daughters Kathy (Carmine) of Wilmington, DE, Bernadette (Ross) of
Knoxville, MD, Theresa A. of Wilmington, DE; sons Michael (Michele) of Aston,
PA, Bobby (Kitty) of Landenberg, PA and Brian (Josie) of Wilmington; 8
grandchildren, Stefanie Szczepanek, Kelly Szczepanek (Brian Kohr), Carmine Jr.
and John Courtney, Mallary, Virginia and Michael Jones and Darian Jones; 4 great

FRITCH, Texas - Ann Lee Peck Jordan, 66, of Fritch died April 20, 1998, in
Amarillo from cancer. She was born in Belle, W.Va., was a member of the Church
of Christ and a homemaker. Surviving: husband, Ramee D. Jordan; sons, Ramee D.

He was born Oct. 4,1928, in Augusta County, a son of Carroll C. Kidd and Maude
Shifflett Kidd. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, a member of the Glen Kirk
Presbyterian Church and was retired from General Electric with 30 years sercice.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Justine Fisher Kidd, Nov. 9, 1988.
Survivors include one son, Barclay W. Kidd of Charlottesville; four daughters,

(Fisher) Kidd, 56, of Route 3, died Wednesday morning (Nov. 9) at Waynesboro
Community Hospital. She was born in Augusta County Nov. 7, 1932 a daughter of
James Edward and Katie Lee (Crickenberger) Fisher. She was an active member of
Glen Kirk Presbyterian Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher for many
years, a member of the choir, and Presbyterian Women. She played guitar at
church functions. Survivors include her husband, Barclay Richard Kidd; a son of
Charlottesville; four daughters, all of Waynesboro, and four sisters, Mrs. Anna
Mabel Fraizer, Mrs. Irene Craig, Mrs. Vivian Sprouse and Mrs. Carrie Fisher, all

Edward Lowell Kincaid, Sr., age 81, of 536 South End Road, Knotts Island, NC
died Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at his residence. He was born February 12, 1939
in Minerton, OH to the late Bernard Lowell Kincaid and Opal Shifflet Kincaid,
and was the husband of Shirley M. Kincaid. After serving his country honorably
with the U. S Navy, Mr. Kincaid retired from active duty and then worked as an
HVAC mechanic with civil service until his retirement. He was also a retired
pastor. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Pamela Hood
(Howard) of Edenton, NC; two sons, Edward Lowell Kincaid, Jr., and Lonnie Walker
of Currituck, NC; two sisters, Sandra Kincaid Barrett and Diane Kincaid Smith;
two brothers, Paul Kincaid and Mike Kincaid; nine grandchildren; and twelve
great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ronnie Kincaid. A
funeral service will be held at Twiford Memorial Chapel on Thursday, January 7,

Judge Albert Judson Kirby, age 81, of 3 Notasulga Drive,
died early Tuesday morning at his residence after an extended illness. Judge
Kirby was born in Athens on Dec. 4, 1918, the son of the late Herbert Milton
Kirby and Fellie Ann Davis Kirby. He was preceded in death by a son, Milton
Gregory Kirby in 1912. Judge Kirby served 45 years in the Magistrate Office of
Floyd County. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he was a deacon,
adult choir member and Sunday school teacher. He was also a former member of the
Rome Kiwanis Club. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Violet Shiflett
Kirby, to whom he was married March 17, 1940; one daughter, Penelope Kirby
Thacker of Franklin, Tenn,; four sisters, Sylvia Herndon of New Port Richey,
Fla., Ebbie Thomas of Rome, Bessie Lyle of East Point and Martha Glaze of
Jonesboro; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Memorial services
will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. William
S. Davies officiating. A private interment service will be held earlier at
Sunset Hill Memorial Garden. The family will receive friends at First Baptist

Vernon Randolph Kirby Sr. died peacefully at his home Thursday, June 7, 2012.
Vernon was born on March 1, 1926, in Batesville, Virginia, the son of the late
Van Wallace Kirby and Mary Lillian Davis Kirby. He was preceded in death by his
wife, Johnnie Mae Sturkie Kirby; a son, Larry DeWayne Kirby; and three
grandchildren, Sherri, Kristine, and Carol Faye Kirby. Survivors include five
sons, Randy and his wife, Lynn, of Crozet, Allen and his wife, Kem, of Keswick,
John and his wife, Dot, of Palmyra, Van and Bobby, both of Charlottesville; one
daughter, Debra Kirby of Charlottesville; seven grandchildren, Chris Kirby, Ryan
Kirby and wife, Vicki, Sara Kirby Baggett and husband, Marcus, Brady Kirby and
fiancee, Sarah, Mandy Hoy and husband, Jeremy, Kayla Kirby and Scott Kirby; and

GLEEN DAVID KITE
Gleen David Kite, 91, of Shenandoah, passed away Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, at his home. He was born Sept. 14,
1923, in the Grove Hill area of Shenandoah, Va., and was the son of J. Frank and Eula McDaniel Kite. Besides
his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, James Nelson Kite, George Ray Kite and Lloyd Page Kite.
Gleen graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1943 and was a member of Fields United Methodist Church in
Shenandoah, where he served as administrative council chairman and Sunday school teacher. He served our
country in the U.S. Navy during WWII from 1944 to 1946 and was stationed at Honolulu, Hawaii. He was a member
of the Avis O. Comer VFW Post 8613 and was recently honored as the oldest member of the post. He was an
instrument technician at Merck for 42 years, played baseball for the Shenandoah Indians team, coached and
managed teams in Page and Rockingham counties, was an avid golfer and played with Merck teams and was in a
senior league. He shared his carpentry, plumbing, and electrical skills to help his family members, friends
and his church. He served on the Shenandoah Town Council 21 years. On June 22, 1946, he married Lena Carolyn
Ringle, who survives. He is also survived by his children, Rick (Janice) Kite of Asheboro, N.C., Susan (Steve)
Painter of Shenandoah and Penny (Powell) Markowitz of Luray; sister, Imogene Hull of Waynesboro;
sister-in-law, Phyllis Kite of Stuarts Draft; grandchildren, Leigh (Rob) Hickman, David Kite, Bekka Painter,
Ben (Carrie) Markowitz, Adam Markowitz and Whitney Markowitz; great-grandchildren, Luke and Caroline Hickman,
Hannah, Everett and Norah Markowitz; many nieces and nephews, including Mike and Larry Sullivan, "his

Retta Della Knicely, 95, of Dayton, passed away Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at
Journeys Crossing in Elkton. She was born in Harrisonburg on March 21, 1917, and
was a daughter of the late Frederick Paul and Retta E. (Bible) Blosser. She was
raised by Lesley N. and Ruth Shifflet. Retta was a retired nurse’s aide from
Rockingham Memorial Hospital and had worked at the Bridgewater Home. She was a
member of Dayton Mennonite Church. She was united in marriage on March 24, 1940,
to Irvin Daniel Knicely, who preceded her in death on Oct. 12, 2004. Surviving
are a son, Robert “Bob” Knicely and Janette Fulton of Dayton; and a half sister,
Ethelyn Early of Sun City, Ariz. She is also survived by four grandchildren,
Carey Knicely and wife, Stephanie, of Bridgewater, Allen Knicely and wife, Sara,
of Dayton, Ashley Sampson of Dayton and Brandi Fulton of Bridgewater; and two
great- grandchildren, Isaac Knicely and Madison Sampson. She was preceded in

Taylor was born on January 24, 1989 in Warner Robins, Georgia. A 2007 graduate of Warner Robins High School,
he currently attended Middle Georgia State College and worked at Olive Garden. Taylor was an avid lover of
basketball and enjoyed playing cards, especially Texas Hold'em. He loved cooking, dancing, playing with his
cousins, and binge eating while watching T.V. He attended Celebrate Recovery at Southside Baptist Church.
Taylor was a handsome, loving son, grandson, brother, nephew, cousin and friend who could make anyone and
everyone laugh. He was full of life and loved to have fun. Taylor's memory will forever be treasured by his

ELKTON, July 12 —Funeral services for C. Edward Jones, 87, well known farmer and
a leader in the East Point community, will be held from the East Point EUB
Church Monday morning at 10:30, the Rev. S. J. Westfall officiating. Friends and
relatives are asked to meet at the home where the body was taken Sunday night
for a brief service before going to the church. Mr. Jones was a lifelong member
of the East Point EUB church and was a leader in both social and religious
activities. He was a member of the board of trustees for many years. As a past
superintendent and teacher in the Sunday School, Mr. Jones was an inspiration to
young and old. He was a son of the Rev. Henry and Sarah Catherine Jones. He had
made his home at East Point since he was 15 years old. He is survived by one
sister, Mrs. Florence Dyche, of Elkton. Five brothers and five sisters preceded
him in death. Mr. Jones was twice married. His first wife, the former Miss Ora
Shifflett died in 1926. His second wife who survives, was the former Miss Winona
Kite. Four children, eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren survive.
Residents of the East Point community feel that the long and useful place that
Mr. Jones held in the community can never be taken by another. He was a friend
of everyone and always helped those in need.

Evangeline Bernice Webb, 95, Shenandoah died Thursday, Oct. 30, 1997, at
Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg. Mrs. Webb was born July 22, 1902,
in Elkton and was a daughter of the late Chester E. and Ora Shifflett Jones. She
was a retired school teacher for Rockingham and Page County schools and a member
of the Shenandoah Prime Timers, the A.A.R.P. and Field’s United Methodist Church

Olive Mae Stepp, 88, 01 Route 2, Elkton, died Thursday evening, February 6,
1997, at the Camelot Health and Rehabilitation Center in Harrisonburg. She was
born August 12, 1908, at East Point near Elkton and was the daughter of the late
Chester Edward Jonas and Ora Shifflett Jones. Mrs. Stepp was a member of the
East Point United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Junior Order
Ladies’ Auxiliary, A.A.R.P. and the Elkton Senior Citizens Group. In July of
1932, she married Jesse M. Stepp, who preceded her in death in May of 1965. She
was also preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Stepp Gooden. She is survived by
a son, Edward Andrew Stepp of Elkton; two daughters, Peggy Stepp Williams of
Elkton and Dorothy Stepp Seal of Shenandoah; one son in faith, Harold Smith of
Elkton; one Sister Evangeline Webb of Harrisonburg; eight grandchildren; seven
great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. The funeral will be
conducted 2 p.m. Monday (February 10, 1997) at the East Point United Methodist
Church near Elkton. The Revs. A.D. Tice and Lewis Armentrout will conduct the
service. Burial will be at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens in Harrisonburg. The family
will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 Sunday evening at the Kyger & Trobaugh

Wayne Jackson Jones, born to George Dewey "Pete"
Jones and Bertha Mae Hopkins Jones in Wesley, AR, went to his eternal rest after
five weeks battling pneumonia and complications. Wayne was transferred to Camp
Carson from Texas early in 1945, and served in the U.S. Army as a vehicle tech
mechanic, medic and ambulance driver. He was a Golden Gloves boxer and always
followed the sport. Wayne owned and operated Jones Painting Service for 55
years. Wayne is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dollie Joyce (Shiplett) Jones;
son Jack L. (Connie) Jones; and daughters Barbara (Leckenby) (Howard "Bud")
Sabol, and Donna (Richard) Kearns. To cherish Wayne's memories and legacy are
also a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family and friends will
remember Wayne's good nature, quick wit, laughter, love of work, hunting,
fishing and camping, especially 35 retirement winters in San Carlos, Mexico.
Wayne and a lifelong friend Blanton Cogburn birthed the Boulder Street Church of
Christ in 1946. He thrived on fellowship with everyone and was an honored mentor
and good song leader. Wayne was a great encourager to everyone he knew. He
filled his life with joy and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Mrs. Addie Joseph Reese, 78 , widow of James Edward Reese and a lifelong
resident of the Mt. Clinton and Lilly communties, died at 11:30 Wednesday night
at her home at Lilly. Mrs. Reese became seriously ill Wednesday. A daughter of
Abner Joseph and Betty Arey Joseph, she was born April 3, 1880 at Mt. Clinton.
In 1906, she married James Edward Reese and since her marriage had lived most of
the time in the Lilly section. Her husband, a well known saw mill and threshing
machine operator and plasterer, died in Nov. 1941. She was a member of the Mt.
Bethel Church of the Brethren. She is survived by five children: Mrs. Noah
Mathias, Rockville, Md; Mrs. Earl Burroughs, Gaithersburg, Md; Mrs. Dwight
Stover, Rockville, Md; and Harry L. Reese and Pete Reese, both of Dayton, Rte.2.
She also leaves one step-daughter, Mrs. Edward Runion, Derwood, Md., 16
grandchildren, 9 step-grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. Funeral service
will be held Saturday afternoon at two o'clock from the Clover Hill Methodist

John Lewis Kagey,
76, of Harrisonburg, formerly of New Market, died Sept. 17, 1991, at his home.
He had been living with his son, Roger D. Kagey, at 47 Rorrer Circle in
Harrisonburg since 1988. He had been seriously ill for the past several weeks.
Mr. Kagey was born March 5, 1915, in Shenandoah County and was a son of the late
Lewis Russell and Gertrude Lloyd Kagey. He lived all of his life in the New
Market community and was a member and trustee of the Valley Central United
Church of Christ. He was a heavy equipment operator. On Nov. 19, 1936, he
married the former Mary F. Shifflett, who survives. Surviving, in addition to
his son and wife are five other children, William E. Kagey of Broadway, Luva
Good and Bobby Kagey, both of New Market, George Kagey of Silver Spring, Md.,
and Earl Kagey of Titusville, Fla.; five sisters, Nellie Whetzel of Timberville,
Ruby Lutz of New Market, Louise Sellers of Atlanta, Ga., Dorothy Deeds of
Keezletown and Orpha Runion of Smith Mountain Lake; two brothers, Paul Kagey of
Boyce and Bill Kagey of Timberville; and a number of grandchildren and
great-grandchildren. The Revs. Charles W. Clinedinst and Wilson Good will
conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m. today at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral
Home. The family will receive friends following the service. A graveside service
will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Cedar Grove Church cemetery at Mount

Richard Keith, 84, Died Last Evening
Richard Ferrell Keith, 84 years old, a lifelong resident of Grundy Co., MO, died
at 10:25 o'clock Thursday evening at his home, 834 East 14th St. Mr. Keith had
been in failing health since last August, and had been critically ill the past
three months, suffering of heart trouble and other ailments. His condition
became worse about a week ago. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at
2:30 o'clock at the Presbyterian Church in Trenton, conducted by the Rev. J. E.
Todd, pastor of the Christian Church. Burial will be in the South Evans
Cemetery, northeast of Trenton. A short service will be held at the South Evans
Church. Mr. Keith, a son of Mr. and Mrs. John William Keith, was born in Grundy
Co., MO, June 22, 1850. He was united in marriage to Charlotte Shifflette on
August 17, 1869 and to this union twelve children were born, eight of whom
survive and include: James Keith, Trenton; Frank Keith, Canon City, Colorado;
Mrs. May Longstretch, Mrs. Bertha Seibenborn; and Mrs. J.H. Cordes, Trenton;
Shelby and Ora and Miss Dewey Keith of the home. A daughter, Mrs. Rex Rains,
died 2 yrs. ago, and a son, J.W. Keith, died 10 years ago. Two children died in
infancy. He also leaves 16 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs.
Nelson Jones of Trenton; and a brother-in-law, Robert Blue, of Sumner, MO. Mrs.
Keith died on July 24, 1922. Mr. Keith united with the Paint Lick Presbyterian
Church when 12 years old. When he moved to Trenton from his farm in the Paint
Lick neighborhood 34 years ago, he placed his membership with the Hodge
Presbyterian Church here. He was active in church and Sunday School work in both
churches, and was an elder for 50 years. He had been a member of the K. of P.
Lodge for many years.

Fishersville. Mrs. Keller was born in Staunton, Virginia on August 12, 1923 a
daughter of the late George W. and Lola (Shifflett) McDorman. Lydia was retired
from Staunton Steam Laundry with thirty-eight years of service. She was the last
surviving member of her family. In addition to her parents and husband Lydia was
preceded in death by eight brothers, William J., Elvin L., Charles F., George
H., Samuel A., Walter T., W. Ray, and James E. McDorman, and two sisters, Allene
Houser and Effie Riddle. A Graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday,
August 26, 2020 in the Barren Ridge Church of the Brethren Cemetery by Reverend

Edward Franklin Kennedy, 62, of 473 W. Market St., Harrisonburg died Sunday at
Rockingham Memorial Hospital. He had been ill a year. Mr. Kennedy was born April
10, 1921, in Harrisonburg and was a son of the late Casper Clay and Myrta
Elizabeth Ritchie Kennedy. He lived his entire life in Harrisonburg and Dale
Enterprise. Mr. Kennedy was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church, Rion-Bowman
VFW post and Woodmen of the World. He attended Harrisonburg High School and
served in the Army three years during World War II. He had retired in May after
27 years with Smith's Transfer Corp. On July 2, 1951, he married the former
Esther Ruth Shifflett, who survives. Also surviving is a brother, Alvan E.
Kennedy of Harrisonburg. The funeral will be conducted 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the
Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home by the Rev. Louis Carson. Burial will be in

The Funeral Services for Mr. Charles Eugene Kerfoot, 78, of Perry, will be held

Cemetery in Hunter, Ok. He was born in Hunter and moved with his family at an
early age to Lahoma, where he was raised. He graduated from Lahoma High school
in 1954. He worked at his family's meat locker plant in Garber. He married Verna
Mae Peterson in 1956 and from this union, had three daughters. He continued to
work as a meat market manager at several locations for over 50 years. He married
Mary "Dorsey" December 31, 1971, in Midwest City. He was a member of the Perry
Elks Lodge. He also is a member of the First Christian Church and member of the
Elks Camping Club. He loved going to our cabin at Lake Eufaula and most of all,
being with his family. He is survived by his wife, Mary, of the home; daughters,
Kathy Kerfoot, of Meno; Carol Carpenter and husband Mark, of Enid; stepdaughter,
Redessa Brooks, of Newalla; stepson, Gene Ramsey and wife Elaine, of Yukon;
eight grandchildren, Ali Jo Carpenter, Jonathon Carpenter, Josh Brooks, Lindsey
Brooks, Dustin Brooks, Kyler Rodrick, Charlie Ramsey, and Brayden Ramsey; and

MCGAHEYSVILLE YOUTH DIES FROM FRACTURED SKULL IN BALTIMORE
John Kersey's Body Will Be Brought Home For Burial Saturday
Joseph Kersey, who was seriously injured Tuesday evening in Baltimore, died in
that city yesterday. J. O. Kersey, of McGaheysville, father of the young man,
was at the bedside of the young man when the end came. Young Kersey's skull was
fractured, when a scaffold upon which he was standing, while at work on the
Fallsway Tunnel in Baltimore, collapsed. One arm and one leg was also broken. He
did not regain consciousness after the accident. The young man, who was held in
high esteem by his associates at McGaheysville, went to Baltimore only about
three months ago, and secured a position with a firm of contractors. He was 22
year old. Besides his father and mother, he is survived by two sisters, Misses
Bessie and Florence Kersey, of McGaheysville; a half-brother, Calvin Morris of
McGaheysville; and two half-sisters, Mrs. R. L. Shrader and Mrs. Robert Pickett,
of Woodbine, Md. The body will be brought to McGaheysville today. The funeral
will be held at the Methodist Church in that place Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
Services will be conducted by Rev. G. Richardson. Note - This obit lists the

The funeral for Boyd Kersh, 79, of Lewistown, Ill. was conducted Jan. 19 at

Stephen A. and Agnes Long Kersh. He was married to the former Maude Shifflett,

Kingrea worked as a master plumber with Dansey Plumbing and worked most of his
career with Pete McDaniel (Pete's Plumbing). He was nice to everyone, and he was
loved by everyone he met. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Judy Shifflett
Kingrea; his children, Ashton L. Kingrea Jr., and Jennifer Kingrea; one sister,
Mabel "Teeny" Marie Fox; two brothers, Dewey W. Kingrea and Carlton "Bunny"
Kingrea; and three grandchildren, John Kingrea, Samantha Kingrea and Emily
Kingrea. A graveside funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, January 10,
2017, at Holly Memorial Gardens in Charlottesville at 1 p.m. The family will

Marjorie June Kirby, 81, of Grottoes, died Friday evening, May 29, 2009, in
Rockingham Memorial Hospital. She had been admitted earlier in the day. She was
born in the Port Republic area, and was the daughter of the late George F. and
Marjorie Shifflett Michael. She was a member of the Port Republic United
Methodist Church, where she was a former Sunday School teacher. She was retired
from Cromptons’ of Waynesboro, where she worked in the receiving office. She was
a member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Grottoes Volunteer Fire Department. On
Oct. 2, 1949, she married William Paul Kirby, who died July 28, 1988. She is
survived by one son, David P. Kirby of Grottoes; one daughter, Donna K.
Meyerhoeffer of Harrisonburg; one stepdaughter, Wanda Jean McClenney of
Seagoville, Texas. Five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday morning, June 2, 2009, at 11 o’clock
by the Rev. David Palmer in the Port Republic United Methodist Church in Port
Republic. Interment will be in the Port Republic Cemetery. The family will

Hallie Dorothy Lam Kisling, 97, of Elkton, danced and sang her
way to heaven June 16, 2020, at Harrisonburg Heath and Rehabilitation Center in
Harrisonburg. Hallie was born, July 31, 1922, in the Jollett Hollow area of Page
County, and was the daughter of the late Virgil Matthew and Nellie Roach Lam.
She also was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin W. Kisling, and son, Alvin
J. Kisling, and a grandson, Alvin Christopher Wolfe. Hallie was a devoted
Christian and attended St. Peters UMC when she was able. She enjoyed flowers,
gardening and music and singing. She loved all animals, especially birds and
cats. She retired after many years at Sleepware and also had worked at Duplan.

PORT REPUBLIC - Redith R. Kisling, 45, formerly of Port Republic but a resident
of Baltimore, Md., for 20 years, died unexpectedly at his home Friday night.
Born Feb. 21, 1916, he was the son of Mrs. Maggie Shifflett Kisling, of Port
Republic, and the late Charles J. Kisling. He was an employee of the Baltimore
and Ohio Railroad and a member of the Episcopal Church. On Feb. 23, 1940, he
married Miss Ruby Morris, of Port Republic, who survives. Also surviving are:
two daughters, Mrs. Judy Moreland, and Miss Nancy K. Kisling; two sons. Earl R.
Kisling, and Charles Kisling, all of Baltimore; two sisters, Mrs. Irene Mowbray,
of Baltimore; Mrs. Mildred Scott, of Chicago; one brother, Russell Kisling, of
Port Republic; one half-brother, James Shifflett, McGaheysville. Funeral
services v/ill be conducted Tuesday at 3:00 p. m. from the Grace Memorial
Episcopal Church in McGaheysville by the Rev. Robert H. Crewdson. Burial will be
in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The family will meet at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James
Shifflett near Lynnwood Tuesday at 2:30 p. m. The body will remain at the W. H.
Kyger Funeral Home in McGaheysville until 1:30 Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Kisling

SHENANDOAH, Sent, 17 Wilbert Henry Kisling, 19, of near Shenandoah died
Wednesday evening at 7:00 o'clock at the University Hospital where he had been a
patient for one day. He had been in ill health for five years with his condition
gradually growing worse with little hope hold for his recovery. He was born on
July 26, 1934, at Elkton, a son of Amos and Minnie Shifflett Kisling. He was a
member of St. Peter's E. U. B. Church of Humes Run. He was educated at the Humes
Run public school. Besides his parents, he is survived by three brothers,
Lawrence Kisling, Norman Kisling and Elwood Kisling, all at home. He also leaves
four sisters, Delia, Lilly, Belle, Emma Jean and Rera Kisling. He also leaves
his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Wilber Kisling, of Elkton. A number of aunts and
uncles also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon at
two o'clock from St. Peter's E. U. B. Church at Humes Run with a former pastor,
the Rev. P. W. Fisher in charge of the services, assisted by the Rev. W. P. Odum
and burial will be in the church cemetery. The body was removed to the late home
this evening by the Warren G. Kyger Funeral Home where it will remain until
Saturday afternoon. Active pallbearers will be: Joe Dovel, Ray Dovel, Boyd
Hensley, Melvin Jenkins, Elwood Ryan and Benny Good.

Marvin S. Kline, 90, of Palmyra died Sunday, October 18, 2009 at the Lebanon
Valley Brethren Home, Palmyra. Born May 17, 1919 in Manassas, Virginia, he was a
son of the late William D. and Virtie O. (Shifflet) Kline. Hewas the widower of
Dorothy J. (Heisey) Kline who died January 12, 2008 and Grace E. (Myers) Kline.
He retired as meat department manager with 40 years of service from the former
Speece's Food Market, Palmyra. In retirement he worked 15 years for Pronio's
Market, Hershey. He attended Palmyra High School and achieved his diploma later
in life. He was a member of Palmyra Church of the Brethren and enjoyed
participating in their music programs. He served in Civilian Public Service for
four years during World War II. Marvin enjoyed being outdoors walking and
gardening. Surviving are his daughters, Ruthann M. Kline Smith of Alexandria,
New Hampshire and Kathy K. Mancuso of Lebanon; a sister, Helen J. Keener of
Palmyra; grandchildren, Abigail, Matthew, Rebekah and Ian; great grandsons,
Malachi and Levi; and nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 11
a.m., Saturday, October 24, 2009 at his church, 45 North Chestnut Street,
Palmyra. Visitation and a light luncheon will follow in the fellowship hall of

D. Kline, 91, formerly of 221 W. Main St., Palmyra, died Wednesday in the Church
of the Brethren Home in Neffsville, where he had been a guest for nearly 15
years. A native of Rockingham County, Virginia, he was a son of the late David
and Sarah Miller Kline. He was a retired employe of the Hershey Estates and a
member of the Palmyra Church of the Brethren and its Men's Bible Class. He also
served as a deacon of the church for many years. His first wife, the former
Virtie Shifflet, died in 1950. He is survived by his second wife, Elva Kilhefner
Kline, a guest at the home, and four sons: Oscar V., Manassas, Va.; David A. and
Marvin S., both of Palmyra, and Omer W., Akron, Ohio. Also surviving are four
daughters, Mrs. Orpha Woodyard, Hershey; Nellie, wife of Roy Summers, Palmyra;
Mrs. Edith Harpine, Hershey RD, and Helen, wife of Roy Keener, Palmyra, in
addition to 23 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and one
great-great-gramdchild. He was the last of his immediate family.

Jessie Willard Knighton Jr., 72, of Elkton, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 20,
2021, at Sentara RMH Medical Center in Harrisonburg. Mr. Knighton was born July
2, 1948, in Rockingham County, and was the son of Lorraine Knighton Gooden of
Elkton and the late Jessie Willard Knighton Sr. In addition to his father, he
was preceded in death by his companion of 23 years, Jennifer Charles; a brother,
Brian Gooden and stepfather, Paul Gooden Sr. Jessie retired as an operator from
Reynolds Metals in Grottoes. He loved coaching Little League Baseball as well as
football and basketball. Jessie had a big heart and enjoyed spending time with
his canine companion, Bella "Big Pretty." In addition to his mother, he is
survived by his children, Angela Smith and husband, Kevin, Stephen Knighton and
wife, Candy, all of Elkton, Stacy Knighton of Grottoes and Jessie Knighton III
and wife, Emily, of Shenandoah; mother of his children, Darlene Knighton of
Elkton; recent companion, Brenda Hansbrough of Churchville; siblings, Connie
Louderback and husband, Bill, of Harrisonburg, Patti Meadows and husband,
Donnie, Paul Gooden Jr. and wife, Donna, and Robert Gooden and wife, Rhonda, all
of Elkton; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren with one on the way, as
well as many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m.
Saturday, Jan. 23, 2021, at the Church of Solsburg with Pastors David Burrell
and Josh Shifflett officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior

his home. Paul was born in Stokesville on Oct. 27, 1926, and was a son of the

maintenance department for the Town of Bridgewater. He attended Grottoes
Pentecostal Church. He was united in marriage on Dec. 7, 1956, to Lois Marie
(Shifflett) Knott of Weyers Cave, who survives. Surviving, in addition to his
wife, are two daughters, Delois Elaine Houchen and husband, Francis, of Dayton,
and Monica Dale Jones and husband, John “Chucky”, of Weyers Cave; two sons,
Dwight “Bo” David Shifflett and wife, Shelia, of Bridgewater and Jacob “Jake”
Paul Knott and wife, Stella, of Hinton; three sisters, Margaret Lambert of
Harrisonburg, Pearl Berry of Bridgewater and Sarah Lee Gooden of McGaheysville.
He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces
and nephews and a special friend, Olis Cunningham. He was preceded in death by
Hershel M. Knott and John F. Knott. A funeral service will be held at Johnson

Washington, D.C., after 35 years of service. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he

("Chuck") Kornman, of Grand Junction, passed away at The Atrium of Grand Valley,
on Saturday, November 21, 2015. He was 92. Chuck was born to Donald and Maude
Shiflet Kornman on July 20, 1923, in Lamar, CO. The family moved to Rozet, WY
when he was in junior high, but had to return to Colorado due to drought and
grasshoppers. After graduating from Cedar Edge High in 1941, Chuck hitchhiked
east with $5 in his pocket, where he attended Graceland College, in Lamoni, IA,
graduating in 1943. He then joined the US Army, serving in Italy and Ft. Bragg,
NC. After his military service, Chuck worked in mines in Ohio City and White
Pine, CO. From 1947-1949, he studied philosophy at William Jewell College in
Liberty, MO and the University of Kansas. In the spring of 1950, Chuck's
childhood dream was realized as he entered full time ministry for the Community
of Christ, headquartered in Independence, MO. His ministry assignments included
Illinois, Texas, Ontario, Canada, Norway, Tennessee, Missouri, Utah and
Colorado. On July 20, 1957 he married Elsie Fry in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
They were married for 35 years. Upon retirement to Durango, CO, in 1988, Chuck
poured himself into volunteerism and service. His passion was meeting people at
their point of greatest need. While in Durango, he helped run the local homeless
shelter and developed his clown ministry as "Popkorn." In 1994, Chuck, moved to
Grand Junction, where he began years of volunteer service at St. Mary's Hospital
and with the American Red Cross. He worked many natural disasters, including
Katrina and Guam and spent 4 months in New York City after 9/11. His thirst for
service led him to over 30,000 volunteer hours with the Grand Junction Police
Department Victim's Advocate Program. Chuck also found a call giving his time to
the Western Colorado Suicide Prevention Foundation and HopeWest Hospice. Through
it all, he remained a vibrant member of his church, and a passionate supporter
of the humanitarian charity Outreach International. Chuck loved baking bread and
taking homemade fudge to his friends. He delighted in reading, especially
westerns and books about ministry. Having a gift of writing, he wrote numerous
prayers that he shared without reservation. Up until his 92nd year, he enjoyed
exercising and seeing his friends at Crossroads Fitness downtown. He had a great
love of bridge, chess, photography, storytelling, and his beloved dog Casper.
His greatest passions were preaching, worshipping with his church family and
sharing his "light" wherever he went. Rev. Kornman is survived by his son, Scott
Kornman of McKinney, TX; daughter, Stacy Webb of Durango, CO; brother, Gerald
Nelson of Clifton, CO; and two grandsons. Interment will be at the Veteran's
Memorial Cemetery, 2830 Riverside Parkway, Grand Junction, CO on Tuesday,
December 22, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life at the
Community of Christ, 2880 B-1/2 Rd, at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, Chuck
would have been exhilarated by his friends donating to any organization to which
he gave his time.

and children, Ronald L. Kortz II, Brandy Sativa (Kortz) Huffman (Tim), April D.

grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father Benjamin Kortz and
brother, Ben Kortz. He is survived by 8 brothers and sisters. Ron served in the
U.S. Marine Corps from 1969-1972 and was a disabled veteran. Ron retired from
the U.S. Postal Service in 2009. His passions in life were his wife, kids and
Harley Davidson motorcycles. A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday,

Krall, 73, of Cove Village, Zion Grove, passed away Wednesday evening at
Riverstreet Manor, Wilkes-Barre, following a nine-month illness. Born in
Middletown, PA; April 19, 1944, he was the son of the late Richard J. and Gladys
(Bailey) Krall, and spent the past seven years in Cove Village, after having
resided in Myrtle Beach, SC, Peach Bottom, PA and Annville, PA. Edward was a US
Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War, and had also served with the US National Guard
in the flight facility at Fort Indiantown Gap. He was a member of Black Creek
United Methodist Church, Sugarloaf. Besides his family his greatest devotions
were to God and Country. He was retired from the Engineering Department of
Hershey Foods, Hershey, PA. He served as a board member of the Nuremberg
Community Players. He loved to fish and enjoyed attending all of his
granddaughter's softball games with his family. Surviving are his wife, to whom
he was married 50 years on October 21, 2017, the former Connie Shifflett; a son
Eric Edward Krall, and his wife Kimberly, Sugarloaf; a granddaughter Hannah
Krall; two brothers Gerald DeWitt Krall, and his wife Janet, Harrisburg; and
Richard Krall and his wife Wanda, Spring Glen; a sister Antoinette Buck and her

beloved, intelligent son, brother, dad, family member, and friend Chauncy Ray
Kuykendall, died young at 33, Wednesday evening, May 8th in Richland,
Washington. He was born in the same hospital where he left us, May 14, 1985,
Kadlec Hospital to Dan and Laura Kuykendall. He was a graduate of Hanford High
School and went on to Washington State University (Go Cougs) where he earned his
Bachelors and then to Eastern Washington University for his Masters. On the day
of Graduation in Cheney he received a call from Pearson Education where he
worked for several years before moving on to new adventures. Chauncy had an
effect on many people in his lifetime. He had many accomplishments in his life
and it started at a young age academically and athletically. Between roller
hockey, soccer, baseball, ice hockey (3 on 3 hoops) it seemed like we were
always on the road traveling as a family. He made numerous friends over the
years and continued throughout young adulthood. He met Michelle at WSU, who
later became his wife and they had two sons, Cole Daniel (3) and Cameron Lee
(2). After over 10+ years she ended their relationship, although he loved her to
the end. Chauncy will be missed everyday by his mother, Laura Jean, father,
Daniel Dean, sister, Jaennae and her husband, Chris Ingebritsen and his sons;
his 95 year old Grandma Lorraine Kuykendall from Richland, Grandma and Grandpa
Shiflet in Myrtle Creek, Oregon, many uncles, aunts, oodles of cousins, many,
many friends, coaches, teammates and acquaintances. Thank you all for being
there for him. We are planning a celebration of his life at Event Center Friday
May 31st from 5-7 pm. We will have speakers, a DVD showing and welcome anyone

David Lambert. She was a member of Mallow Presbyterian Church and was a retired
secretary of the Alleghany County Board of Supervisors. She was also a member of
the Women of the Moose. In addition to her mother, she is survived by a son,
David Ryder of Roanoke, and a brother, Edgar D. Lambert Jr. of Richmond. The
funeral was held Saturday in Covington. Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery in

"Squirrley" Lambert of 1529 New Hope Road, went to be with his heavenly Father
on Friday, March 2, 2018 surrounded by family and friends and those he loved.
Mr. Lambert was born on January 6, 1938 in Swoope, a son of the late Lawrence
Charles and Pauline (Myers) Lambert. James was formerly a Deputy Sheriff for the
Augusta County Sheriff's Office for many years and retired from Diakin, formerly
McQuay, after 55 years of service. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing
in the mountains of Swoope with his brothers and nephews. James was a family man
and enjoyed spending time with his family and going with them to his favorite
restaurant. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son,
Charles Alexander Lambert; a brother, Lawrence "Junior" Lambert; two sisters,
Hazel (Lambert) Barbee and Pauline "Muck" Lambert; and a very special beloved
pet, "Shelbie Lynn Lambert." Surviving in addition to his wife of 60 years, is a
son, James F. "Jimmy" Lambert, Jr. and partner, Gary Terry of Staunton; a
daughter, Shawn (Lambert) Graham and her husband Kevin of Deerfield; a
granddaughter, Jordan M. Graham and her fiancé, Justin McCray of Deerfield; a

Jimmie Lambert Jr., 63, of Bridgewater, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2013, at
Emeritus in Harrisonburg from complications of Frontal Temporal Dementia. Jimmie
was born in Deer Run, W.Va., on Dec. 21, 1949, and was the son of Rhoda
Shifflett Lambert of Harrisonburg and the late Jimmie Lambert Sr. He graduated
from Franklin High School in 1968 and served in the U.S. Army. He then went on
to attend Potomac State College and graduated from James Madison University. He
worked for the Virginia Department of Rehabilitation as a placement counselor
until retirement. Jimmie was a member of the Rockingham-Augusta Search and
Rescue Team, the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, the Studebaker Club in Dayton and
a volunteer for Skyline Literacy. He loved antique cars and was a train
enthusiast. He also loved animals and spending time with his family. He will be
forever remembered as a caring and loving husband, father, and friend. On Aug.
13, 1972, he married Starr Allen Lambert, who survives. Surviving family also
include a son, Jarrett A. Lambert and fiancée, Lauren, of Harrisonburg;
daughter, Jocelyn S. Lambert of Bridgewater; brother, Thomas Lambert and wife,
Connie, of Harrisonburg; mother-in-law, Gloria Allen of Harrisonburg;
sister-in-law, Kathleen Allen of Oakville, Ontario, Canada; goddaughter, Erika
Hannell of Lynchburg; nieces and nephew, Becky Long, Kate Lambert, Adam Lambert
and his wife, Becca; and great-niece and nephew, Skylar and Jackson Lambert. The

George William Langham Sr., 64, of 134 Wayside Road died today. Mr. Langham was born May 9 1926, in Floyd
County, son Ellen Kearns Langham and the late George Maddison Langham. He had been a lifelong resident of
Floyd County. Before retirement, he was employed by the Georgia Power company for 40 years. He was a member of
Oostanaula Lodge No. 113 F&A.M., the Low 12 Club and the Georgia Power Embassador Club of Rome. He was a
veteran of World War II, having served with the Navy. Survivors include: his wile, Mildred Sue Shiflett
Langham, to whom he was married Oct. 2, 1942; two sons, George William Langham Jr. and John David Langham,
both of Rome; his mother. Rome; two sisters, Miss Annie Mae Langham and Mrs. Mane Langham Cooper, both of

Angela "Michelle" Hutton Lantz and companion, Andy Good, all of Elkton. Brandon

employed by McDonald's in Elkton and also performed landscaping. He was an avid

Thomas Lavender, Sr., age 92, of
Milledgeville, passed away Saturday, June 13, 2020. Funeral Services for Thomas
Lavender, Sr. will be conducted Wednesday, June 17, 2020, recognizing Covid
regulations and social distancing, at 2:00pm in the Chapel of Williams Funeral
Home with Rev. Randall Thomas officiating. Interment will be privately held in
the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Lavender was born in Toomsboro on
November 2, 1927 to the late William Henry Lavender and the late Orion Walters
Lavender. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife,
Freddie Ann Shiflet Lavender. Mr. Lavender lived in Milledgeville most of his
adult life. Mr. Lavender served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, where he was a
corporal in Guam during WWII. He served as an MP following the war. Upon
returning from service, Thomas went to work at the Milledgeville State Hospital
as a medical attendant, later becoming an LPN. He also joined the National
Guard, becoming a Master Sergeant and a Sharpshooter. He left MSH to run the old
Sinclair Auto Service Station on South Wayne Street, where he worked as a
certified auto mechanic. After selling the station, he went to work for Orkin
Pest Control in 1964. He moved with Orkin to Clairmore, Oklahoma, and later to
Ozark, Alabama in 1965, where he bought another auto service station. It was
here that he bought a 1957 Chevrolet, and raced it on the local dirt track race
courses. He later sold the service station in Ozark, and he, along with his
family, moved with Orkin to Pine Bluff, Arkansas for 1 year before returning to
Milledgeville. Upon his return, he went back to MSH, where he worked as an
admissions officer. Thomas later took a position at the Youth Development Center
in Milledgeville as a Lieutenant, later becoming the Director of Security. He
was instrumental in getting the lieutenants and director POST certified, as well
as implementing uniforms for security staff, proper CB radios for the security
cars, proper security cages in the cars, and the control fence around the
campus. He also served as the YDC Fire Marshal. He retired from YDC and the Sate
of Georgia in 1981, but remained a member of the Georgia Peace Officers
Association for the rest of his life, and a Deputy Sheriff for several years
into his retirement. Mr. Lavender is survived by his son, Thomas Lavender, Jr.
(& Janet) of Milledgeville ; his grandchild, Karla Lavender Milikin (& Monty) ;
and his great grandchildren, Presley Windham Milikin and Avery Leigh Milikin.

Waynesboro - Henry David Layne, 81, of Waynesboro, VA, passed away on March 20,
2021 at Augusta Health in Fishersville, VA. Henry David Layne was born in
Fishersville, VA to James Robert Layne and Mary Lee Brumfield Layne on February
8, 1940. He was a 1957 graduate of Wilson Memorial High School, Fishersville,
VA. He worked for DuPont in Waynesboro, VA for over 40 years, retiring in 2000.
Henry David Layne is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carolyn Shifflett Layne;
his son Timothy "Tim" Layne and wife Brenna Fawley Layne; his daughter Tammy
Layne; his brothers Gerald "Gerry" Layne and wife Ann Layne, and James "Jimmy"
Layne and wife Teresa Layne; grandsons Finn Layne and Tai Layne; nephews John
Robert "Rob" Layne, Eric Layne and wife Jennifer Gardner Layne; nieces Vonda
Tabor, Breeta Heizer, and Amanda Layne and husband Tony Brissell; his aunt Polly
Brumfield; several great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as many cousins.
Henry David Layne enjoyed spending time with family, reading, hunting, watching
sports on TV, and repairing things. His ability to repair almost anything was
admired by everyone. A private memorial service will be held at Reynolds Hamrick

for 23 years, and worked for the City of Harrisonburg in the Water Department

playing Santa Clause and the Easter Bunny at various events. He was also a
member of Full Gospel Lighthouse Tabernacle Church. On November 20, 1964, he
married Carolyn Faye Keller Leake, who survives. He is also survived by two
sons, Nelson Scott Leake and wife Dana of Keezletown, and Shawn K. Leake and
wife Rachel, of Weyers Cave; five grandchildren; Miranda Coffey, Kristofer
Leake, Lyndsie Leake, Matthew Sprouse and Brittany Sprouse, one great grandchild

husband, Dennis of York; her son, Robert Lease of York; six grandchildren, D. J. Eisenhart and his wife, Jami,

today to determine the cause of death. In addition to the parents, survivors
include a step-sister, Stephanie Bartell, and a stepbrother, Vincent L. Bartell,
both at home; the maternal grandmother, Mrs. Edna Shifflet, Palmyra; the
paternal grandmother, Mrs. Eve1yn Lentz, Lebanon, and the paternal grandfather,
Mervin A. Lents, Lebanon; maternal great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert

Emery L. Leonard, 66 years, of Metamora, Ohio, passed away on Monday, July 4,
2005, in Fulton County Care Center. Emery was born on September 28, 1938, to
Emery O. and Veronica (Hennan) Leonard in Sylvania, Ohio. He married Loretta
Shifflett on May 21, 1964. Emery was a janitor for Ladbroke Race Track for 10
years, retiring in 1998. He was in the Army Reserve National Guard, Marine
Corp., and Merchant Marines. Surviving is his loving wife, Loretta; children,
Daniel (Kathy Gray), Bruce and Shannon Leonard; stepchildren, Rick and Kerry (LuAnne)
Surgeson; 9 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild. Friends will be received in
the Neville Funeral Home, 7438 Airport Hwy., Holland, OH (419-865-8879), from
2-9 p.m. Thursday, July 7, 2005. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on

Lord Thursday, Oct. 8, 2015. He was born Nov. 11, 1942, in Albemarle County, to
the late Linwood Lewis and the late Elizabeth Shifflett Lewis. He was an
ordained Minister and a member of Celebration Church of God in Waynesboro. In
addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Belle, and his
brothers, Elmer, Floyd, Irvine and Dan Lewis. He is survived by his wife Adaline
"Addie" Lewis; brothers, John Lewis and Edward Lewis: stepchildren, Kathy,
Debbie, Carol and Allan; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and numerous
nieces and nephews.Family will receive friends Sunday, Oct. 11, 2015, from 2

Mrs. Sarah Land Lewis, age 77, of Rome, GA, passed away on Thursday, October 15,
2020, at her residence. Mrs. Lewis was born in Rome, GA on May 5, 1943, daughter
of the late Bruce Land and the late Ruby Vera Shifflett Land. She was a graduate
of Armuchee High School and had been employed with several banks and retired
after 10 years of service from the Regions Bank. She was a member of Wesley
Chapel Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in
death by her husband, Neuffer Jesse "Nick" Lewis, and by a brother, Randolph
Land. Survivors include her sons, Jeff Lewis and Dusty Lewis (Teresa), both of
Rome and Danny Lewis (Kimberly), Cave Spring; 5 grandchildren, Nicky, Hayden,
Skylin, Kaysin and Dakota Lewis; a sister, Wilma Hopper (Bryant), Summerville; a
brother, William Land, Jacksonville, FL; several nieces and nephews. In keeping
with her wishes, Mrs. Lewis will be cremated, and a graveside service will be
held on Thursday, October 22, 2020, at 11am at Georgia National Cemetery, near

Mr. Neuffer J. "Nick" Lewis, Jr., age 70, of Rome, GA died at his
residence Tuesday, May 13, 2014 after an extended illness.
Mr. Lewis was born
in Abbeville, SC on May 16, 1943 son of the late Neuffer J. Lewis, Sr. and
Winton King Lewis. He was a member of Wesley Chapel and was the owner of
Construction Supply and Equipment. Mr. Lewis was a United States Air Force
veteran serving during the Viet Nam era, and a member of the American Legion
Post 5 where he served on the Honor Guard detail. He was also a CERT responder
and a member of the 40/8 Club in Cartersville. We will miss his humor in our
daily walk, however his memories will forever be in our hearts. Survivors
include his wife, Sarah Land Lewis, Rome; three sons, Jeff Lewis, Danny Lewis
and his wife, Kimberly, Dusty Lewis and his wife, Teresa all of Rome; two
brothers, Kenneth Lewis, Easley, SC and Terry Lewis, NC; one sister, Cherie
Haley and her husband, Scott, Greenville, SC; three grandchildren, Nicky, Hayden
and Skylin Lewis all of Rome; nieces, nephews and close friends also survive. A
celebration of his life will be held on Friday, May 16, 2014 at 11:00am in the
Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel and Crematory, with
Reverend Randy Jiles officiating. Entombment will follow on Tuesday, May 20,
2014 at 11am in the Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, GA with military honors

Robert C. Lewis, 80, Altoona, died early Thursday morning at his residence. He
was born in Altoona, son of the late Amos E. and Jane Laura (Diehl) Lewis. He
married Betty Virginia Shiplett on May 20, 1950, in Altoona. Surviving are his
wife; a daughter. Debra L. Sefton of Altoona and her companion, William Coffee;
a granddaughter, Melissa (Sefton) Foster and husband, Brian, of Culpeper, Va.; a
grandson, Kyle Eric Sefton and wife, Nadia, of Richmond. Va., and numerous
nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters Geraldine James and
Mildred Houck; and a brother, Howard. Robert was a 1949 graduate of Altoona High
School. He retired from the Altoona Area School District as head custodian for
Roosevelt Junior High School in 1986 after 35 years of service. He was a member
of Bethany Lutheran Church, Altoona. Robert enjoyed hunting, fishing and going
to their house in the country. A private viewing and service were held at the
convenience of the family. Interment was made at Fairview Baptist Cemetery,

Charles Edward "Dink" Lilly, age 90, of Charlottesville, and currently living in
Roanoke, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 25, 2014. He was born November
18, 1923, in Ellicott City, Maryland, son of the late Charles E. Lilly, Sr. and
Anna Knight Lilly. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Charles E. Lilly,
III; by his wife, Charlotte L. Lilly; by three brothers, Robert E. Lilly, James
F. Lilly and Richard Lilly; and by one sister, Bertha L. Phillips. He is
survived by a daughter, Carol J. Lilly of Birmingham, Alabama; a son, Calvin L.
Lilly and wife Wanda of Roanoke, Virginia; four grandchildren, Jason Hooper,
Meagan Hooper, Sarah Lilly and Susan Lilly; and three great-grandchildren,
Joshua, Caleb and Samuel Hooper. Affectionately known as "Dink", he grew up as
one of the Charlottesville Belmont Boys. He graduated from Lane High School,
Class of 1943. He served in the Army Air Force from 1943 to 1946, as a
communications specialist. Dink worked at the Charlottesville Post Office until
he retired in 1974. Upon retirement he enjoyed sports and traveled the globe. He
moved to Roanoke in 2004, where he enjoyed life at Friendship Retirement
Community. Charles "Dink" Lilly treasured his life-long friendships formed from
his days in youth sports, military service, and Postal employment. The family
would like to express heartfelt appreciation to Judith Byrd, a true friend, for
her companionship and compassionate care. Graveside services will be held at 10
a. m., Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Holly Memorial Gardens.The outstanding care

Charles "Charlie" Conrad Linhoss, 62, of Harrisonburg, passed away
Thursday, July 23, 2015, at Sentara RMH Medical Center. Charlie was born Feb. 4,
1953, in Rockingham County and was a son of the late Kenneth Ray Linhoss and
Dorothy Virginia Linhoss. His surviving family includes a brother, Kenneth R.
Linhoss Jr. and wife, Judy; a sister, Linda L. Lawson; a special friend, Dee
Hall; niece, Gina Lawson Burns; great-niece, Kylie Jenkins; two great-nephews,
Trevor and Tanner Burns; a beloved cat, Travis; and numerous extended family,
which include aunts, uncles and cousins. In addition to his parents, he is
preceded in death by a niece, Stacey Lawson, and a brother, Ronald W. Linhoss.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Yvonne E. Linhoss, who passed in
2002. He attended Turner Ashby High School then went on to have a successful
career selling life insurance. He was a shooting enthusiast and was often seen
at the Harrisonburg Shooting Range with friends. He was also a proud owner of a
red Mustang convertible and member of the Harrisonburg Eagles. The funeral
service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, July 26, 2015, at Kyger Funeral Home in
Harrisonburg with Pastor Sonny Henkel officiating. Burial will follow at Spaders

Kenneth Ray Linhoss Sr., 83,
of Harrisonburg, passed away on Friday, May 29, 2009, at the Rockingham Memorial
Hospital. Mr. Linhoss was born on June 6, 1925, in Rockingham County, and was
the son of the late Weldon Conrad and Maude Irene Tutwiler Linhoss. After
attending Bridgewater High School, Ray enlisted with the United States Marine
Corps. During his service in World War II, Mr. Linhoss was wounded twice by
shrapnel and was a recipient of a Purple Heart. When he returned from WWII, Ray
was a self-employed brick mason for more than 50 years. Ray was a life member of
Hose Company No. 4. He attended Providence Baptist Church in Harrisonburg and
was a member of Rion-Bowman VFW Post No. 632. Mr. Linhoss was preceded in death
by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Virginia Linhoss, in October of 2008. He was
also preceded in death by an infant son, Ronald Linhoss; a granddaughter, Stacey
Lawson; and a daughter-in-law, Yvonne Linhoss; one brother, John Linhoss; and
three sisters, Helen Taylor, Peggy Huffman, and Lucille Argenbright. Mr. Linhoss
is survived by a daughter, Linda Lawson and husband, Gary, of Purcellville, Va.;
two sons, Kenny Linhoss and wife, Judy, of Bridgewater, and Charles Linhoss of
Harrisonburg; one sister, Phyllis Douglas of Harrisonburg; one granddaughter,
Gina Burns; three great-grandchildren, Trevor Burns, Tanner Burns, and Kylie

born August 12, 1991 in Cincinnati the son of Kathy Lloyd (nee Shifflett) and
Thomas Lloyd. Brad was a husband, daddy, son, brother, friend and U.S. Army
Soldier. Brad was just as handsome, as he was smart, with a quick wit, and great
sense of humor. In this tragic loss he is survived by his wife, Jewelle, three
children Raiden Bradley, Nile Braxton, and Maverick Bison. His parents, Thomas
and Kathy Lloyd, of Milford, Ohio. His brothers, Jeremy Thomas (Liz), and David
Lee, of Cincinnati, Ohio. As well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visitation will be Monday, June 10, 2019, from 5pm until 8pm held at the Evans

Frances Ann Plott Logan, a lifelong resident of Birmingham, passed away
peacefully on May 12, 2020 after a long journey with Alzheimer's. She was
preceded in death by her parents Mary Virginia Shiflett Plott and James Iverson
Plott and her sister Mary Jane Plott Kennedy. Frances is survived by her
daughter Mary Ann Logan Somers (Tom) of Birmingham, two nephews Murray Lewis
Kennedy, Jr. (Darlene) and James Iverson Kennedy (Colleen), one great nephew and
two great nieces. Frances was born on November 28, 1936 in the small community
of Crumly Chapel. She graduated from Minor High School in 1955 and attended
Huntingdon College in Montgomery and the University of Alabama. Quick-witted and
charming, Frances loved to dance and play the piano. Always the individual, she
was a health food devotee long before it became common place. Among her many
other passions were her love of architecture, especially Birmingham's downtown
buildings, history, and genealogy. She was a member of Crumly Chapel United
Methodist Church, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the National
Society Colonial Dames XVII Century. Most of all, she was a loving mother and a
loyal friend to many. Her daughter wishes to express her love and gratitude to
Sue Yates, Maryland Watson, Gloria Strickland, Eloise Burt and the staff at the
Cottages at St. Martin's in the Pines for their loving care during these past
several years. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Should friends

He was a veteran of the US Army. Skip worked as a Die Maker and Machinist for
General Motors for over 36 years retiring in 1998. He had resided in Grand Blanc
since 2001, wintering in Largo, FL where he resided at Palm Hill Country Club.
An avid golfer, Skip started golfing at the age of 14 and has celebrated 14
hole-in-ones. He was also a member of Elks Lodge #2159, enjoyed spending time at
the casinos and was a devoted fan of Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions and Tampa Bay
Lightning. He is survived by his wife, Pamela; sons, Tony (Shelly) Loiselle and
Todd (Jennifer) Loiselle, grandchildren; Tyler, Zac, Zoe, Colleen, Brayden and
Adeline; 4 brothers and his constant companion, Shadow. He was preceded in death

On Oct. 26, 1963, she was united in marriage to Dale Danielson. They lived all
their lives in the Floyd area. Cherie worked at the Charles City Community
Schools for over 20 years and at Fort Dodge Animal Health for over 10 years. Her
interests included sewing, crafting, listening to music, dancing, gardening and
photography. Cherie always looked forward to spending time and sharing her life
with her family. Living family members include her husband, Dale Danielson of
Floyd; a son, David (Michele) Danielson of Des Moines; a daughter-in-law,
Darlene Danielson of Des Moines; three grandchildren, Ryan, John and Rachel;
four brothers, Charles (Dannette) Logan of Colo., Rick (Christy) Logan, Jim
(Debbie) Logan, and Mike Logan all of Minneapolis, Minn.; and two sisters, Sue

Mrs. Helen Day Loker, 90, a resident of Willow Estates at Penn Laird, died at 3
a.m. Saturday morning, May 31, 2003, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. She had
not enjoyed good health for the past several months. A daughter of the late
Arlie and Stella Kiser Day, she was born on Jan. 23, 1913, at Mount Crawford and
lived all of her life in the McGaheysville and Penn Laird communities. Mrs.
Loker had been employed in the Rockingham Memorial Hospital Laundry and was a
member of the McGaheysville Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary and the McGaheysville Home
Extension Club. She was also a member of the McGaheysville United Methodist
Church, where she served on various committees in former years. Dolly, her
faithful pet dog for 16 years, died recently. On June 23, 1934, she married
Henry Gordon Loker who preceded her in death on Feb. 5, 1987. She is survived by
two sons, William G. "Bill" Loker and wife Wilma of McGaheysville, and Donal E.
Loker and wife Janice of Penn Laird; one daughter, Marilyn L. Loker of
Harrisonburg; eight grandchildren, Pamela Calhoun and husband Jeff; Colby
Shifflett and wife Becky; Amber Shifflett; Jordan Shifflett; Keith Loker and
wife Jenifer; Karla Driver and husband Jamie; Brian Loker and wife Tina; and Kim

2013, at Martha Jefferson Hospital. She was born December 22, 1924, in
Charlottesville, Virginia, to the late Cecil E. Long and Ruth Shifflett Long.
Also preceding her in death is her husband of 60 years Maurice Franklin Boger;
and a daughter-in- law, Mary Ellen Boger. Mrs. Boger worked for many years as a
bookkeeper for Ferguson Plumbing. She is survived by her sons, Fred Boger, and
Allan Boger and his wife, Patricia; her sister, Jeanne Jones, a brother, Charles
Long; and three grandchildren, Leigh Boger, Gwen Ward, and Jillian Comstock; and

Sally P. Long of 50 N. Nigh St., Harrisonburg died at her home early Friday. She had been in ill health
several years. Miss Long was born in eastern Rockingham County and was a daughter of the late Asariah S. and
Hulda Gibson Long. She spent most of her life in the Dayton and Harrisonburg communities. She was a member of
First Presbyterian Church, the ladies’ Bible class and Circle 2. She also was a former member of the Women’s
Christian Temperance Union and the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Surviving are a brother, Avis
Lee Long of Miami, and two sisters, Bessie Long Shiplett of Dayton and Lula Long Liskey of Bridgewater Home.
The funeral will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday at Kyger and Trobaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Joseph T. Sefcik.
Burial will be In Mount Olive Cemetery in McGaheysville. The family will receive friends at the funeral home

CARMEL HOPE CLIFTON LONGLEY
Carmel Hope Clifton Longley passed away peacefully August 19, 2015, at Willow
Estates in Penn Laird, VA, with family by her side. Carmel was born November 4,
1926, in Galax, VA, to Zina Hall & Troy Lamert Clifton. The oldest of five
children, Carmel had many fond childhood memories of sweltering summers spent
working in her grandfather Hall's tobacco fields near Mount Airy, NC. Carmel was
a bright and beautiful young lady. Upon graduating high school she enrolled at
National Business College in Roanoke, where she met H.V. "Punk" Longley, Jr.
With shared passions for Virginia history, antiquing, reading, traveling, and
remembering Veterans, the vibrant young couple married on April 20, 1946, and
settled near Elkton. Together they raised three daughters, Marla, Vana, and
Barbara, at "Marvana," their restored Civil War era home in Solsburg, which was
filled with antiques purchased throughout Virginia, and where Carmel grew
impressive rows of beautiful rose bushes. Until Punk's death in 1999, the couple
made fifty-two annual pilgrimages to Shenandoah Valley cemeteries, placing
American Flags on Veterans' graves. Carmel (lovingly called Blondie by Punk and
many others for her thick blonde mane) was not only a loving, caring wife and
mother, she was also an independent, professional woman, whose career at
Shenandoah's Pride Dairy spanned nearly half a century. During that time she
also worked alongside Punk every tax season at H.V. Longley, Jr. Accounting.
Carmel was recognized in 1969 as Secretary of the Year by the Harrisonburg
National Secretaries Association. She was very active in many organizations,
holding local and regional offices in the Virginia Federation of Womens Clubs,
National Secretaries Association, Lions Club, and as an Honorary Ruritan in the
Elkton Ruritan Club. She was a proud member of United Daughters of the
Confederacy, the Shenandoah River Chapter of the NSDAR, and the Church of
Solsburg. Carmel was vivacious, stylish, fun, strong, energetic and gracious.
She loved hosting company, and preparing extravagant holiday meals for her
family (always allowing someone else the pleasure of cleaning up.) Later in life
as dementia progressed she retained an innate cheerfulness. She will always be
remembered for her generous spirit and sweet soul. Carmel was preceded in death
by her husband, her grandson, Richard Lofton Bagnal III, and her brothers,
Richard Bryan Clifton, Hugh Clayton Clifton and T. L. Clifton, Jr. Carmel was
loved very much and will be deeply missed by her surviving family: Daughters,
Marla Nemoytin (Jeffrey), Vana Bagnal (Dick) and Barbara Merica (Saad Malloian);
granddaughters, Monica Heyden (Thomas) and Mara Gardner (Joe);
great-grandchildren, Madison and Matthew Heyden, and Maryvan Gardner; sister,
Connie White (Willard); sister-in-law, Yoshiko Clifton; and many special nieces
and nephews. A service will be held at 2:00 Saturday, August 22, at Kyger
Funeral Home in Elkton, VA, with Pastor Josh Shifflett officiating. Prior to the
service the family will receive friends 1:00-2:00 at the funeral home. Burial

ELKTON - Herman V. Longley Sr., 72, of Elkton died Monday at a veterans'
hospital at Roanoke. Mr. Longley, a veteran of World War I, was born Aug. 2,
1895. He was a son of M. D. and Mary Earman Longley. He was a member of
Harrisonburg American Legion Post 27 and of the Church of Solsburg. His wife,
Lelia Hensley Longley, died Oct. 26, 1962. He is survived by one son, Herman V.
Longley Jr. of Elkton; one sister, Mrs. Tracey Anderson of Baltimore; one
brother, U. C. Longley of Standardsville; two granddaughters; one foster
granddaughter and one great-granddaughter. The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m.
Wednesday at Elkton EUB Church by the Rev. Morgan Kinney and the Rev. Don
Fridinger. Burial will be in Elk Run cemetery. Pallbearers will be Owen Baugher,

Herman Vance "Punk" Longley Jr., 74, of Elkton died on Monday, November
29, 1999 at his home in Elkton. He was born December 14, 1924 in Harrisonburg
and was the son of the late Herman Vance and Lelia Hensley Longley. Mr. Longley
served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the Harrisonburg
American Legion Post 27. He graduated from National Business College in Roanoke
and attended the University of Virginia, Virginia Tech and also continued his
education with ongoing classes and reading all his life. Mr. Longley was an
enrolled agent and was a selfemployed accountant in Elkton for many years. Punk
lived his entire lifetime in Elkton and as he grew up he loved to help at his
father's garage and wrecker service. He was a past president of the Elkton
Ruritans Club, treasurer of the Elkton Lions Club and an active member in the
Harrisonburg-Rockingham Historical Society and the Elkton Fire Department. His
hobbies included wood working, assisting many people in genealogical research,
being an avid reader and studying history. For 52 years he and his family placed
veterans flags on graves at many of the area cemeteries. On April 20, 1946 he
married Carmel Hope Clifton who survives. He also is survived by two daughters,
Vana Bagnal and her husband Richard Bagnal Jr. of Winston-Salem, North Carolina;
and Maria Nemoytin and her husband Jeffrey Nemoytin of Elkton; one foster
daughter, Barbara A. Merica and her husband Sad Malloian of Burke; Virginia;
three grandchildren, Mara Hope Bagnal, Richard Bagnal III, and Monica Heyden and
her husband Thomas; and great grandchild Madison Clifton Heyden. Funeral
services will be conducted 2:00 PM Thursday afternoon at the Upper Room Church
in Elkton by Revs. Johnny E. Hensley, Jeff Hicks and Milton Marks. Burial with
military rites will be at Elk Run Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be members
of the Elkton Lions Club and the Elkton Ruritans Club. The family will receive

Luray. Agnes was born in Elkton on October 4, 1919 and was the daughter of the late Nancy Ann (Shifflett) and
Samuel Wilson Baugher. She was a faithful member of Christ United Methodist Church in Shenandoah, and
graduated from Elkton High School. She was united in marriage on November 30, 1940 , to Claude Owen
Louderback, who preceded her in death. Agnes is survived by two daughters, Linda and Jo Louderback of Elkton,
a host of nieces, nephews, and her cat, Honey Bunch. She was the last surviving member of her immediate
family. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Claude Owen (Zero)
Louderback, Jr; sisters and brothers-in-law: Florence Wyant, Virginia Ridenour (Harry), Nora Baugher (Lurty),

Teddie L. Love Jr., 61, of Glouster, passed away Friday,
Dec. 20, 2019 at his residence. He was born March 13, 1958 in Athens. Teddie
formerly worked at Nico Fibers in Shawnee, and later opened a body shop working
at his home. He had many fond memories of playing basketball and softball in the
Glouster Men's League, was an avid fan of Trimble Tomcat basketball and
football, and enjoyed riding his motorcycle and vacationing in Myrtle Beach.
Teddie will be missed by family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 41
years, Nancy Kamento Love; a daughter, Tara (Michael) Carsey; grandchildren,
Isabella, Sara Beth, and Michael Carsey; his mother, Norma Shifflet Love; three
sisters, Debbie (Mike Fleischer) Love, Beth (Kenny) Shank, and Lori Love; and a
large extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was
preceded in death by his father, Teddie L. Love Sr. The family would like to

of Harrisonburg, passed away June 15, 2016. Richard was born Feb. 9, 1960, in
Harrisonburg and was the son of Evelyn Frances Beach Loveless of Harrisonburg
and the late Thomas Franklin Loveless Sr. He was a member of the Salvation Army
Church and was a roofer for 40 years. He loved spending time with his kids and
grandkids and enjoyed fishing and gardening. His family and friends enjoyed his
beautiful flower gardens, which he designed and created. He loved his family
more than he loved himself, and they were his world. Along with his mother, he

Edward Lee Loving, 84, of
Roanoke went to be with our Lord on Friday September 4, 2015. He was born in
Covington, VA. on February 28, 1931 to the late Lee L. Loving and Eleanor
Shifflett Loving. He was also preceded in death by an infant brother, Lee, Jr.,
a sister, Carolyn Loving and an infant grandson. He is survived by his loving,
devoted wife of 60 years, Betty Campbell Loving; also survived by two daughters,
Julie Loving Seay and husband Martin, and Debra Loving Brugh and husband Steven;
grandsons, Landon Brugh and fiancée Kelly Rhoades, and Avery Brugh; sister,
Florence Loving Sheftelman and husband, David; niece, Deborah Racey and a
nephew, Ronald Sheftelman; three godsons, Bryan Buchholtz, Cameron Buchholtz,
and Tmothy Buchholtz. Edward was a devoted Christian, son, brother, husband,
father, grandfather and friend. He served in the U. S. Air Force during the
Korean conflict as a Staff Sergeant with the 92nd Bomb Wing. After his military
service, he enjoyed a long career with IBM as a Field-Engineering Specialist and
retired after 32 years. Edward was a founding member or St. Thomas of Canterbury
Anglican Church, where he served on the vestry and held many other offices. He
continued to be a faithful worker at St. Thomas until his health began to fail.
He was also an avid outdoorsman and loved being with nature. The family would
like to thank some very faithful friends and supporters, the Rev. Don Poff,
Laura Wilborn, Shirley Boon, Charles and Betty Jo Manning, Alice Huff, Patti
Gilley, and Gentle Shepard Hospice, especially Kim, Joanna, Pam, and Rosa for

Siram Reuben Lucas, 83, of 327 N. Cannon Ave., Hagerstown, died Saturday, Nov.
18, 2000, at his home. Born March 19, 1917, in Page County, Va., he was the son
of the late Reuben S. and Leona D. Baugher Lucas. His wife, Thelma Mae Lucas,
died in 1977. He was employed with the Washington County Roads Department for
more than seven years. He was previously employed with Hagerstown Rubber Co. for
25 years. He served with the Army's 9th Infantry Division during World War II.
He received the Purple Heart. He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist
Church. He is survived by a sister, Frances Nethken of Culpeper, Va. He was
preceded in death by a son, Reuben S. Lucas; three sisters, Helen Eppard,
Margaret Lucas and Evelyn Comer; two brothers, Russell Lucas and Clarence Lucas.

Frances Lee Ludlam, age 80, of Mannington passed away
Tuesday, November 24th surrounded by her family. Born and raised in Salem County
she was the daughter of the late Kemper and Violet Shipplett Dean. She resided
in Ocean County a number of years before returning to Salem County where she was
employed as a Correction's Officer for the county for a number of years. Mrs.
Ludham was a dedicated homemaker, loving mother and grandmother. She is survived
by her two sons, Guy Ludlam (Chris) and John Ludlam (Donna); two daughters,
Sharon Ludlam and Paula Nelson; and her special friend and caregiver Wilbert
Gandy. Mrs. Ludlam will also be missed dearly by her 12 grandchildren, 25 great
grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was
predeceased by her husband, John E. Ludlam; 3 sisters, Mabel Mysko, Virginia

Sharon Ann Ludlam, affectionately known
as Nan, 65, of Hopewell Twp. formerly of Salem passed away on February 8, 2020
at the Cumberland Manor in Hopewell Twp. following a lengthy battle with
Multiple Sclerosis. Born in Salem to the late John E. Ludlam and Frances Dean
Ludlam, she had been a resident of Salem County most of her life. Raised in
Elsinboro, Sharon had also lived for about 10 years in Ocean County. Prior to
her diagnosis with Multiple Sclerosis, she had worked in housekeeping for
Mezinna Realty in Ocean County. Sharon was a dedicated homemaker to her two
daughters. As an animal lover, she was particularly fond of her horse, Buster
and all of her orange cats. Sharon was a fan of country music especially,
Alabama. She is survived by; two daughters, Andrea Buckalew of Oswego, NY and
Stephanie Wolfer and her husband, David of Pennsville; her sister, Paula Nelson

great-grandchildren. She was preceded to death by; two brothers, Guy Ludlam and
John G. Ludlam and a great-granddaughter, Gabriella Holland. A memorial service
will be held at the Church of the Nazarene, 172 Churchtown Rd., Pennsville NJ on
Saturday, February 15th at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that
donations be made in Sharon's memory to the National MS Society, P.O. Box 4527,

Dolores Hampton Lynn, "Dokey", 78, of Cape Coral, Florida passed away August 29,
2009. A resident of Cape Coral, Florida for the past 15 years, she lived in the
Woodbridge area for her entire life before moving to Florida. She attended
Occoquan High School and was Miss Occoquan 1948. Before retirement, she was a
procurement officer for the Navy. She is survived by her loving husband, William
"Billy"; a brother, William "Butch" Hampton of Woodbridge, VA; two children,
Victoria Shiflet (Louis) Kress of Coles Point, VA and, Donald Alton (Donna)
Shiflet of Tyaskin, MD; two grandchildren, Barkley Hampton (Letitia) Davis of
Woodbridge, VA and Seth Hampton Davis of East Chatham, NY; and one great
grandchild, Emelia Sydney Davis of Woodbridge, VA. She is preceded in death by
her parents, Goldie and William "Doc" Hampton, and sister, Barbara Ennis. A
visitation will be held on Friday, September 4, 2009 from 6-9 PM at Mountcastle
Funeral Home, 13318 Occoquan RD, Woodbridge, VA. A funeral service will be
conducted at 2 PM on Saturday, September 5, 2009 at Mountcastle Funeral Home.
